DH's job is based in San Diego, and he travels there every 3 months. We were thinking about taking the kids this summer in July- I'd do things around San Diego with the kids while DH works during the week, then heading up to Disneyland for a few days afterwards. DH and I went to Disneyland this fall, just the 2 of us, but the kids have been asking to since we went. But Star Wars: Galaxy Edge is going to open there the end of June. I don't have much interest in it- DH and DS have more- and while I'm sure it will be neat to see, we're not going to the parks for that reason. Is it just going to be crazy there this summer? If we don't go then, I don't think we'd be able to make it until next summer with the kid's school schedule.

boo. When we originally thought of the trip, I thought it was opening later in the summer. We'll put it off until next year then. Or maybe find a way to take the kids during the school year.

It is opening in June with the exact date not set yet but it could be June 21st based on AP block out dates. If you choose to tackle the parks this summer, be aware that DCA will be stupid busy since that is the only park that lower level APs can access all summer. Disneyland will be busy and if you can't plan, handle crowds and heat you will want to avoid it at all costs!
If you can afford it, stay on property and drag your butts out of bed early to take advantage of EMH for the parks. Plan to spend 3-5 hours in the park hitting up rides and then use the afternoon to use the pool or do low key stuff (character meet and greets, shows, etc).
RE: San Diego. When will you be here? If your dates will overlap with Comic Con you will want to rethink your plans for SD. Downtown becomes a navigational nightmare if you drive, the trolley is super busy during the day but there are lots of free things to do outside of the convention center.
