Why would one not have a water bottle with a flight of beer? I carry it wherever I go.
I wonder if that would work here. Because of liquor laws, if you bring a regular disposable water bottle into a bar they have to make you dump it out. Breweries usually offer a water cooler and cups but they're tiny. I would love to have a bigger container on hand. I would definitely bring one of our dozen+ Camelback bottles rather than something fancy though, just in case I forgot it.
I have never heard of that! And never been asked to empty a water bottle I bring with me, except for at the airport of course.

I have definitely known of the”cool” water botttles since getting my first nalgene in college. Around here the swell water bottles are popular now.
I’ll take any reusable one that’s seen as a cool status symbol since it’s avoiding disposable bottles, which were briefly popular around where. Our town has responded to demand and all the parks have bottle refill stations on their water fountains, which is fabulous.
Exactly - lol. I’ve actually bought additional water bottles just to put stickers on.
Ski boxes are useful for stickers when you run out of water bottles.
We don’t have one! But we definitely considered getting one after admiring all the bestickered storage thingies (on top of Subarus) during our last road trip.

To be fair, they are a lot more expensive than water bottles, but maybe not if measured in sticker-holding capacity.

I’m not going to get a ski box, but I need something to hold my brewery stickers.
It has been a status symbol for a long time. If you do not have the current "hot" water bottle, you will be asked about it here.
This is the weirdest thing I have ever read. Where do you live? Weirdtown USA? Do people not have lives there? Is that what people think about when they don’t want to think about the fact that democracy is dying around them? Who are these people? The same people who wear athleisure at school pickup? This honestly makes me want to carry water around in something tragically unhip and ugly like a plastic Circus Circus cup from Reno or something.
I live in Houston. These tend to be the people who are dressed in Lululemon, or whatever the current equivalent is. There are plenty of other complaints about politics, religion, and anything else that seems to cause a stir. They seem to have endless energy for this useless judging.
Water bottles are a statement where I live, from brand, type, to color. It's part of how I present myself in meetings, socially and at the gym. It's not really different than any other brand stuff. Personally, I don't like the S'well bottles because you can't put ice in them.
They’re a statement where I live, too. Or rather the stickers on them are a statement. The actual bottle isn’t important.
I have many Nalgenes covered in stickers too. Those have their place too, lol.

We have several of these. The 40oz size is very useful for outdoor adventures.
We also still have a few of the very old BPA-filled Nalgenes.
I would guess we have 25 water bottles between us of various status levels.
I got rid of all my old BPA nalgenes when they had that turn in program for a discount on the bpa free ones. Except for one that was covered in stickers from the first summer MH and I started dating. It was too sentimental.

41 years old, and I still love stickers.
Mama has bestickered her bike pump. My granny has stickers all over the inside of the door to the tack compartment of her horse trailer. Neither of these are good ones for you, but I'm just throwing out ideas here.

I one accidentally bought a $50 swell bottle from Starbucks. Some kind of limited edition one that was a collaboration with a British fabric company. (At the time I recognized neither the swell brand name nor the fabric company.) It was supposed to be like a $15 secret Santa gift at work. But then I realized how much it cost and kept it. It’s very pink and flowery which is hilariously NMS at all.
Liberty of London?
Never mind...actually read the rest of the comments. As soon as you said British fabric and flowery, I knew.

I use a stainless steel one with my company logo. When we moved offices, my boss bought them for each of us from the “swag store” as an office-warming present.
Did anyone go from a basic double walled stainless steel tumbler with straw to a Yeti brand one? I’m curious if there’s really a noticeable difference in keeping the ice longer

How did you accidentally buy something/not realize the price til you had it home?
It has been a status symbol for a long time. If you do not have the current "hot" water bottle, you will be asked about it here. I will never have one because I tend to choose things I like that are pretty over any name brand. I don't own a single name brand item, so it really does amuse me when people ask me about whatever the current trend is.
.
Just because I’m curious, how do these conversations usually go? “Why are you drinking out of that?” “Where did you get your water bottle?” I can’t imagine so many rude people running around trying to water bottle shame other people. I get status symbols, but this seems like a weird thing to “ask someone about.”
I love my hydroflasks (I have several for hot beverages too) but I had no idea they were in any way a status symbol or political. They keep stuff cold or hot for hours and really, that’s all I care about.
ETA: I also carry it wherever I go. I drink a lot of water. I’m thirsty *shrug*

I had money loaded in my Starbucks app but didn’t really know how much. I bought a few food/drink things and the water bottle and when I paid, I used the app and then I had a balance of like $13 to pay. I later realized that I had way more in my SB account than I thought. I figured the water bottle would be about $20 based on seeing swell bottles at target. But those are different quality bottles I guess?
This whole thread is so funny. If you search for stainless steel water bottles on amazon, hydroflask is near the top of the list (or it least it was a few years ago when I bought a bottle). I’m the laziest shopper in the world so that’s how I make 99% of my shopping decisions - whatever shows up at the top of the amazon search list.
I find this thread kind of fascinating. This whole concept is completely unknown to me!
At offices, classes, etc, everyone just grabs a clean glass from the cupboard and then puts it in the dishwasher when they're done. And at a bar or restaurant, we just use the glasses they provide.
I guess the closest concept we have is more about quantity. Everyone seems to want to have the "correct" water-carrier for each activity: Going to the gym, you either have a CamelBak or the plastic squeeze bottle branded by a gym or sporting goods store. For hiking, most people have an aluminum or steel canteen bottle. For cross-country skiing, an insulated drink belt (typically from Swix, because all cross-country gear comes from Swix). For cycling, it's a hydration backpack.

I have this exact one, I think. I won it in a raffle basket at DD's school and nearly died when I saw the price tag on the bottom.
I'm in Houston and pretty much everyone has a YETI on them at all times. For awhile it was the stainless steel ones with stickers on them and now it's just the smaller colored ones with a fun straw. I confess I hopped on that trend and I can't imagine going anywhere in the summer (so like April-November) without mine.
I'm always searching for the perfect one for the gym. I haven't found one I like yet. There it does not seem like it is a status symbol at all but the YETI definitely seems like it is.

Liberty of London! This fabric is insanely expensive but I lurve it.
That's all.
I went into Liberty last year for the first time. Their fabric room is amazing!!
(And I can afford almost nothing in there. I bought two bars of soap. 7 pounds apiece. Worth it.)
ETA: I am interested in those Dopper brand ones, I wonder if I can get one for cheap-ish in the Amsterdam airport. I hate buying water bottles online.
Why would one need a water bottle with a flight of beer?
Why would one not have a water bottle with a flight of beer? I carry it wherever I go. Plus, drinking at altitude, even those of us that live here, without water is a somewhat unpleasant experience.
Vermont thing as well. My entire group carries water bottles with them everywhere. Some are stickered, some are not. I suppose there are people around who do not carry water with them everywhere they go, but most of us do. Including to restaurants occasionally. Just a thing.
I don't know if I would say it is a status-symbol thing here, though I suspect it probably is with a certain crowd. Again, I guess it could be the people I generally spend most time with (fairly outdoorsy, environmentally conscious), but we've all been carrying some sort of water bottle since high school and the giant Nalgene BPA ones that didn't even have a sip lid insert yet. Between DH and me, we probably have 20 bottles or so in our collection, but I wouldn't call any of them status symbols. I like my Camelbak insulated ones the best for active situations and I like the stainless steel Contigo best for bringing to work or in the car, because they are the most reliable not to leak and are easy to clip onto other bags I am carrying.

The Target ones are S’ip by S’well and have trendy patterns and only hold 15 oz. The S’well ones are bigger and do the artist collaborations.
We used the S’ip ones for Secret Santa. Which I thought was a good idea but the guy who ended up with it seemed confused. I feel vindicated reading this article.
