Does Flint, Michigan sell branded water bottles? Because if you live in a area where people are questioning and judging your water bottles you should probably get one of those.

I've carried a water bottle since I was a kid. Arizona and I walked to school regularly in 100+ degree heat. Used to have two for school, one frozen and one not. Back then I loved to reuse the disposable Propel bottles because I liked the top. They all sweat though, so the flair was the sock you put your bottle in to keep your stuff dry.
Now I see all the teenagers with status symbol bottles. They cover them in stickers from coffee shops rather than breweries. They also regularly leave them behind at swim practice, which exasperates their parents since the bottles are not cheap.

I work at a university and in the most liberal town in Kansas, so water bottles are a things, though I'm not sure there is much status symbol to them.
In the archery world it seemed that most people had yetis, then the whole yeti NRA thing happened and about 50% of people thought they had to get rid of their yeti, the other 50% offered to take them for free.
I like tervis for coffee and and hydro flask for water.
This really is a 5 page thread on water bottles. I thought for sure I missed some racist troll or climate change denier or something.
I'm really enjoying the change of pace this thread brought. LOL!
But I have to disagree on the water bottle to brewery discussion.
I think it's probably b/c I'm not as responsible as you. I rarely take my water bottle to the brewery, except when I do Down Dogs and Draughts yoga - then I not only take my water bottle, but I also take my yoga mat and lay on a brewery floor.
Oh and my water bottle favorite is a Rubbermaid Bottle Shaker - I have a bunch of other ones (HydroFlask, many Camelbak, glass one, KleenKanteen, etc.) but I love this one for not spilling and being easy to drink out of - and because I can't quit that stupid supplement and like the light weight part of plastic. Plus my water bottle it's usually filled with that Amino Energy supplement that someone on ML suggested.
I also have an expensive coffee mug that I use 5 days a week and travel with as if it's my wallet - HydroFlask 12 oz. Ah, just had a sip out of it now....
ETA: And it's not weird in MT or CO for someone to be carrying a water bottle to meetings or classes or work or school. It seems normal.

@@@@
I carry a cheap Rubbermaid 32oz plastic bottle with me almost everywhere I go. My sister makes fun of me bc I tend to panic when it gets low like I might die of dehydration if I don't have a t least a full cup with me at all times!! My kids have hydro flasks for school because I think making a kid drink warm water by the end of the day is kind of mean.
Side note - I had a friend that traveled around our college campus with a gallon jug of water. He'd put it on his desk and drink from it like people do with their fancy water bottles these days. He way way ahead of his time!!

This was a big thing in college with the gym rats. It was the universal symbol for "I spend 4 hours a day at the gym".
ETA: Also I did not realize that stickers were a thing! Where do they come from? Do people seek them out and buy stickers for that purpose? Do they just slap them on when they get them randomly (like why my computer had an "I Voted" sticker for months after Election Day)?
Stickers are everywhere! Breweries usually have some, I pick them up at Phish shows, National Parks, airports. I bought a really cool one at the Memphis airport to commemorate the gtg.

I bought a Yeti from a company that laser engraves them with anything you can think of. It was fun to personalize, but I told the guy it was way to expensive and he needed to throw something else in for free. So he gave me a hydro flask that had a random logo engraved on it and I use it all the time. I never thought to put stickers on it, but I will now! Also my mom and sister are the people who can’t leave the house with out their (Liberty) Swells. I take one about 50% of the time.
Alright, this thread has me searching for a new water bottle for our trip in 2 weeks. I use Yeti's regularly, but not leak proof so less than ideal.
Now I'm worried about what to get and what it says about me! jk, a little.
I really like this one for throwing in my purse. It doesn't leak or sweat. Can be used with hot or cold and has both a wide mouth and a drinking spout. The drinking spout lid screws on, and has a hinge so when it's folded down it won't flop in your face.

I kind of want a hydro flask now. I was thinking of this thread when I was buying volleyball knee pads today (so I was at the sporting goods store) and I really liked all the lid options and colors for those.
The last day or so I've drank so much more water than usual, because apparently I'm like pavlov's dogs and have to drink when talking about water bottles.

I also have a Takeya and can second this recommendation! It's similar to MH's Hydroflask but I like this drinking spout better, and also the fact that it has a handle so it can be clipped to a bag for travel or commuting.

Same.
Although I'm apparently a weird Tervis-using outlier. I can't stand drinking out of metal and I like the double wall of Tervis.
I will confess my love of seltzer here, and that I buy aluminum cans to help contribute to the growing amount of waste in our world. I recycle though?
I have the same issue. I think I’m buying a soda stream so I’m using reusable bottles. Unless someone tells me that they’re somehow a bigger environmental catastrophe than the bottles/cans.

I haven’t bought a SodaStream, because I have no place to put it (I have to keep the KitchenAid in the hall closet when I’m not using it). I buy sparkling water in large returnable bottles, and the deposit is as much as the purchase price! But I feel bad about the energy needed for transport, so I should suck it up and get a SodaStream and just keep it in the closet.
My daughter and I both have Contigo Ashland bottle and love them. They're great if you love a soft straw spout, but hate bite valves. If the spout is folded, it doesn't leak, plus it has a spout lock that is great for throwing it in a bag. Only downside is that the spout isn't fully removable or replaceable, but so far neither of us have had issues with cleanliness.
Constant carrying of water bottles is not the norm at all here, but neither are recycling or using reusable bags, so I'm OK with being an oddball. Again.

I really like our soda stream. It works very well. And you can recarbonate a bottle if you need to. It’s fairly minimal waste, though you do have the cartridges.

I THINK many of the retailers that sell the cartridges will take them back for recycling. Bed Bath and Beyond used to be one of them, I’m not sure if they still do (we no longer have a Soda Stream).

Yeah, we’ve taken ours to target in the past. We go in spurts where we use it a ton and then don’t use it at all.
It has been a status symbol for a long time. If you do not have the current "hot" water bottle, you will be asked about it here. I will never have one because I tend to choose things I like that are pretty over any name brand. I don't own a single name brand item, so it really does amuse me when people ask me about whatever the current trend is.
.
Just because I’m curious, how do these conversations usually go? “Why are you drinking out of that?” “Where did you get your water bottle?” I can’t imagine so many rude people running around trying to water bottle shame other people. I get status symbols, but this seems like a weird thing to “ask someone about.”
The conversations usually start with when will you be buying xxx(overpriced trendy item). Then when you t reveal you have no intention of purchasing it they tend to make disdainful noises.
I wanted a HydroFlask for a few years, but didn’t want to spend $45+ on a water bottle. I like the large plastic Starbucks cups with straws, but the straws always get funky after awhile, and I couldn’t throw it in my purse like a plastic water bottle.
Last January, someone left a pink knockoff in my house. I found it, washed it, and sent texts to friends trying to figure out who it belonged to. Nobody had any ideas. I set it on the counter and figured, eventually someone would claim it. One day it was hot in the summer so I put some ice in it and carried it with me. I was hooked immediately, and my husband wanted one too. I read reviews of the kind I had randomly started using, and it had great reviews, for half the price of the hydroflask.
This one is great, around $20, fits all cup holders, fits in my purse, has never leaked, keeps ice cold all day. I love the lid, it fits perfectly in my fingers and is easy to carry around. I use it on my daily walks and hikes.
I’ve dropped it several times. The only slight negative is that the paint does come off if you drop it hard. I’ve used mine every day for the last 6 months, and it has 5 very small silver chips peeking through.
Oh and to make it GBCN, I just put a political sticker on it yesterday 😂

I seriously spent 30 minutes looking at water bottles in 2 different aisles at Target today because of this damn thread. In the end, I couldn't find anything that satisfied all my demands.
