For those who think he made this up, can you explain to me why you think he would make up a story like this? What would be his end goal?
Sympathy, positive press, support, attention (I had never heard of him or Empire until this happened), possibly a misguided effort to increase awareness of MAGA racism. There are a number of reasons why he would have done it.
LOL. I like how believing a black man who was violently attacked is the actual victim of a crime without concrete evidence to prove otherwise is just politically correct group think.
And for someone who doesn’t care what we think you sure do spend a lot of time trying to explain yourself!

I dont know. Again, I’m not saying it’s staged but imo the information I’ve seen points me in that direction. Right in my hometown there were two huge hoaxes: one woman faked her own kidnapping and another man faked a hate crime. Hate crime hoaxes happen. Not nearly as frequently as actual hate crimes, of course.
I don’t pretend to know what motivated those people and I felt very sad for them, although admittedly I also felt real anger at the guy who faked the hate crime because of the collateral damage reports like that can have. Admittedly, my reaction to this situation may be collateral damage from that one.

The fact that you haven’t heard of a highly rated, award winning show with a black cast is SHOCKING. Shocking I tell you!

I don’t watch television. I read.
Add these to your list then: 1. White Fragility 2. I Am Not Your Negro 3. Sister Outsider 4. So You Want to Talk About Race 5. White Rage 6. Racism Without Racists: Color-Blind Racism

Even people that read tend to step out into the real world sometimes. Like going to work. Or socializing. Grocery shopping for example. I know I read. And I tend to read headlines of the junk at the registers while I'm waiting to unload my cart because I read everything that crosses my path, pretty much. And even I, who limit my television to HGTV and Maddow and the like, have heard of this show that is uncommon because it features a character-driven, all-black cast whose characters create and have real lives (well, real TV lives) and wear fancy clothes that isn't a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air or Jeffersons sit-com, and which has won all sorts of awards. Seen Taraji P. Henson on the cover of TV Guide or the weekend magazine insert of the Sunday paper and reference her work on the show, or even her red-carpet looks here on this site...
And yet none of that has ever crossed your path or made you curious to learn more.

I believe him. I think we need to give victims the benefit of the doubt unless it is PROVED otherwise. As a side note, I was googling about Jussie Smollett and found out he graduated from the high school the next town over.

What information? The only thing I’ve “seen” and it was a headline was that it could be a hoax because he was written off his show. But the show has said that’s absolutely not the case.
Okay. I’m done now. It will be interesting to me to see what the reaction is here once the whole truth comes out.
The chief of police has said the staged theory was inaccurate and uninformed. What more do you want to see that it’s unlikely that’s the case? Is the Chief lying? Misled? Or can you just not admit that it’s highly unlikely this was staged

There you go again, assuming you know what the truth is. Somehow you know more than the chief of police! They should be calling you for investigation tips!

Guess who won’t be here to eat crow when the truth comes out? Don’t worry, I won’t spoil it for you. 😉

She probably doesn’t believe the Chicago Chief of Police because he’s also black....

Since we’re putting so much stock in what the police say...
Did you read this before posting? This article completely contradicts your entire point. It is not saying what you think it is. Maybe take several steps back.

Lol. What do YOU think the article is saying?
It literally says IN the article that they do not have any evidence that this is a hoax. Or did you just not read to the end?
Just because they have new information in the investigation that shifts the story does not mean that Jussie is a liar or that the attack did not occur. Maybe you’re brand new to the world of how investigations work? Police do investigations to learn more about circumstances that are described by victims and witnesses. This doesn’t mean the victims and witnesses are lying.
I’m confused about what you are not understanding here.

Exactly what it IS saying.
On Friday, as interviews with the two men continued, Guglielmi said that “the alleged victim is being cooperative at this time and continues to be treated as a victim, not a suspect.” He also said that there was “no evidence to say that this is a hoax.”

Guys, the story is that there is new information “that could change the story entirely.” The statement at the end about him saying YESTERDAY that it was not a hoax is to contrast what he is saying now. What part of “change the story entirely” is confusing?

What is your obsession with reading that statement as indicating that the attack was staged? What is your agenda here?
It’s very clear that the police are not saying that the attack was staged or did not actually happen. The fact that the story has changed does not mean any of those things.

I’m pretty sure that if the police now believed it was a hoax, the headline would have been something like “Evidence points to hoax.” “Changes the story entirely” is not evidence that the police believe it was a hoax.
I’m still waiting for an answer to my question about the police chief.

Again that could mean many things including something like the suspected motive is different then originally thought.
You insist on hearing hoofbeats and saying it’s zebras when it’s more likely a horse.
Could this have been staged? Sure, but as of right now the Chief of Police is saying that’s not the situation.
They got new information that’s important which could be anything from finding out it was someone who had a beef with him and it wasn’t a hate crime (because it was personal and not based on race or sexuality) or changing it from a random hate crime attack to a targeted hate attack.

Even with the info that *could* change the story, the chief said no evidence suggests it’s a hoax. These statements are in the very same article. New info, still no evidence of a hoax.
