And sorry, but finding Jussie’s story to be suspect, and finding that the alleged perpetrators were Nigerians to be even more suspicious is not racist. Good grief. Did you all even follow his “detailed” account? It made no sense.
It wasn’t finding the story suspect that came off racist.
It was her comment that because all three were Black and one knew him it was so obviously staged.
Her basis for argument out of the gate was their skin color.
I also thought it was suspect, but because of many other details. Not because they were all black.
I am surprised you are defending her. Now she is going to go around thinking her correlation = causation based on skin color alone is A-Ok.
I don’t think anyone jumped Rosiebear’s shit who also said she felt it was staged, but didn’t draw the conclusion based on race alone.

all of them being black makes it suspicious given the original story. And I don’t care what she thinks, so stay surprised if you want.
I swear you people lose all objectivity and common sense at the mere mention of black people. Just like the B Smith thread. I can see why you all are gun shy at criticizing black people given your track record, but saying nothing is an option too. No need to burn a bunch of energy being wrong.
I just don’t think she would have been as quick to agree with an unsubstantiated report if the victim it was discrediting were a white woman. Whatever information is out now, the only thing she went off of is that there were two other black men who may have been connected to the show in the area, they were questioned, and let go. The police themselves at that time were still saying he was a victim and they weren’t investigating it any other way.

so those facts didn’t make you suspicious?
There weren’t any facts at that point though. It was all assumption. So no, I wasn’t about to discredit him.
His story really didn’t make much sense from the getgo but hate attacks happen and MAGA idiots are emboldened so I wasn’t going to doubt it. But as more details of his account came out, it seemed more and more unlikely that two people would spot him at this location, at that time, carrying rope and bleach. So I had doubts at that point.
Then he handed over heavily redacted phone records.
Then when the brothers were arrested, his whole “this is MAGA country!” and “I would’ve been believed if I’d named a Muslim, Hispanic, or Black suspect” narrative went out the window.

Honestly, I’ve been struggling with feeling like there wasn’t something quite right with his story (“this is MAGA country!” didnt sound to me like something a MAGA person would say, and it’s Chicago, so not really MAGA country anyway, but because my gut is often wrong and because there are an awful lot of homophobic and racist people out there, including in Chicago, I gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Admittedly, things are look to me like it was staged. However, I’m not willing to take a stance on that until we know for sure. I’ve made erroneous assumptions in the past.
Also, this chick always seems to drop in with guns blazing, and to delight in mocking others for differing opinions. It’s annoying AF.

But I’m happy to see you! How is the baby?
I’m good! Don’t want to turn this into an @ thread though. :-)
I get why you all got your hackles up at that random poster, so I’ve lost the energy to argue about this. But the over the top virtue that is always ascribed to black people by good white liberals is a little unsettling. I can see why people want to come in and mix it up. You all sure do dig in though, so that’s an improvement over years past!

My willingness to withhold judgement has more to do with the Chicago PD than his story. The longer this goes on, the more suspect all of it seems; his story and all these little leaks of information.

Do any other Illinoisans feel that the Chicago media totally leaned toward this being staged from the get-go? The reporting was uncomfortable to watch/read.

Oh for sure. The whole business is ridiculous. I just didn’t think it was racist to assume some level of collusion once the persons of interest turned out to be black acquaintances of his. What else would you assume at that point? It’s really the only aspect of it that makes sense.

Unsettling, and laughable. Definitely unwanted and unnecessary. We don’t need ya’ll to stomp and yell on our behalf...we’re good.

Personally, the acquaintance part made me think it was more likely to be real. Because the one part of his story that had me confused at first was that he was targeted while on an unplanned trip to get food but these people both had targeted him, had bleach, and a rope convenient. So hearing they were black acquaintances made me think they were attacking him for something personal and trying to disguise it.

I get that it is naive.
But those dudes were huge and Jussie had that one little cat scratch on his face. Lol. Just one of them would have stomped him into the pavement if the attack was real and personal.

Right. It is always the white folks yelling racist! Glad you got our back and all but we are cool.

I admit I haven't read all of this thread, but the first few and last few pages. These last few pages made me think of the FB post from the a few years back of spoken word poetry put out called "Lost Voices." (I had to go look it up online, from some key words). A black man and white woman speak for each other in the spoken word piece, and it ends with "...the problem with speaking up for each other, is that everyone is left without a voice." www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpPASWlnZIA I think we, as a group, may have done something similar here.
I admit that I didn't know a lot about the attack, but jumped to a conclusion of being skeptical when the first accounts of the attack being staged came out a couple days ago.
Oh hey other white people, if you don't want to be racist, here's someone who can help. (Stop turning to other white people like Robin DiAngelo; white people aren't the authority and shouldn't be making money off this shit)

From that site: If a white person takes authority and leads anti-racism education, then they are perpetrating a racist act. American racism dictates that white people can be the authority in all topics. However, they cannot be the authority on racism.
My company has been conducting these “micro inequities ” trainings, led by white women, and it’s so fucking tone deaf and damaging. Like, a micro inequity is when you plan a team building lunch, but half your team is in a different state so they feel left out when they get the invite. WHUT?!? No, bitches. Sit down.

Omg
The woman who runs the department tried to recruit me as her affirmative action coordinator! So, so tone deaf.

It makes me think the $50,000 annual license to an online module training we identified is worth the money to control the message.
At least in the video:
1) a white man walks into a meeting with a white woman and a black woman and says, "oh if i knew no one was in here I wouldn't have come either," followed by 2) same man is talking about lifting some heavy objects and says, "I wouldn't want you ladies to have to do that heavy lifting."
I thought there could be better examples but those are at least better than what you mentioned.
Whenever I hear of people making up terrible tragedies I assume they are generally just terrible, selfish people or they really need help for some sort of mental illness that would cause them to seek this kind of attention. Since he seems like a pretty stand up guy otherwise, I’m going to say he needs help. Something has to be going on ito make up this kind of a lie. I hope he gets the help he needs.
