I was the first university graduate in my family and I received a lot of presents. I’m kind of embarrassed now.
- My Mom and my Dad both said I could live with them rent free for 6 months, so that would have gotten me a year without living expenses. I didn’t take them up on it (lived with DH) but it was a generous offer.
- My Mom bought me a silver flute.
- My Dad paid my Visa bill coming out of university.
- My Grandparents gave me $1000 towards a work wardrobe (I dressed better then than I do now 11 years in!)
- My Aunt gave me a pair of diamond and emerald earrings and a matching ring.
Cash. My grandparents gave me $1000 which blew my mind at the time. I still think it’s the largest cash gift I’ve ever gotten, including law school graduation and getting married.
I bought my son a new mattress (he was moving out into his own place), a cookbook that I put together with his favorite recipes (I also gave some recipe cards to my mom to fill out and put in the book) and this: www.etsy.com/transaction/1269915034 since he was continuing on to medical school and might need a reminder of how far he's come when everything feels overwhelming.
We also took a long weekend trip as a family to a place a few hours away that we like to go.
We went out to dinner and I got a card that said my gift was no student loans. They paid every dime of my college costs. I was fine with no physical gift.
A few months later they helped me with moving into my first post-college apartment.
They bought me a car my sophomore year of college and I was to pay them back for it. When I graduated they forgave that debt.
Same exact thing. I had been paying them back but they wiped away the remaining debt. They probably also got me something else but I honestly do not remember.

I don't recall a gift, but we went to dinner, and they threw me a small party. I think I remember my mom saying that paying for college was their gift, which I was cool with.
When I defended my honors thesis before graduation, they brought me a nice bottle of champagne and took me and three of my friends out to a nice dinner.
When I graduated from grad school, my mom bought me a nice purse.
My parents paid off my car loan when I finished undergrad. I don't recall what I owed, but it was less than 1k IIRC.
I don't remember what they gave me when I finished grad school. My family went on vacation together literally the next day, so maybe that? One of my graduations they also gave me a ring, but it probably wasn't very valuable (and honestly NMS so I don't even know what happened to it, I rarely wore it).

My parents gave me a car they had loaned me Sr. year to get to my internship, which I also needed after graduation to get to my new job. It was the most amazing gift they have ever given me, even though it was used and only worth about $1000. In high school me and all my siblings had to get jobs to buy our first cars and then I’d sold mine before going off to college. My parents didn’t pay for any of my college tuition or living expenses and didn’t really do much else to help me with anything as a teen or adult, so it was very surprising and appreciated about the car.
