I really really don't want to freak you the fuck out, because it probably isn't this, but this sounds similar enough to how things started with my son that I wanted to post, because there are almost no symptoms until it's gotten advanced. My son was diagnosed with neuroblastoma last year-- March 4th. It started with a low grade fever that would last 3 or 4 days, then go away, then come back. He'd complain of leg pain, but that too would come and go. When I look back-- it started around mid January and was March 4th until diagnosis. How is her energy? Appetite? Again I'm sorry and it probably isn't this.
I am so sorry to hear this. I didn’t want to say anything either but leg pain was the one symptom of my daughter’s leukemia diagnosis. Usually leg pain is nothing but sometimes it can definitely be something else. How is your son doing?
He's doing really well! He finished frontline treatment and has had clear scans since August. We will be going out to New York throughout this year to do a vaccine trial at Sloan Kettering-- it's very promising for preventing relapse. How is your daughter doing?
Lurker that had the same issue with my son -- couldn't really walk for 2 days and when he did, it was on his tip toes. It was apparently acute myositis, and the pediatrician indicated that they are seeing it a lot this season after Influenza A. Was apparently common with H1N1, too? Anyway, wanted to share....

When they say leg pain, do they mean the muscles feel sore or like it is bone deep?

I think it was bone deep for my son. He was stage IV, his bone marrow was full of it.

I have heard about that trial and how promising it is. We have about a year left of treatment to go. She is actually getting her port removed on Monday and switching to IV chemo.
As for leg pain when she was first diagnosed (the first time) it was hard to say. She was 2.5 and she fell one day and then for a few weeks was limping. We even took her for X-rays (which showed nothing obviously). When she relapsed over a year ago (at 6) she never complained of bone pain.

So my coworkers son refused to walk a few months ago, apparently just absolutely refused so she was worried and took him into the pedi, turned out he had strep and it was painful for him to walk.

i am sorry. i feel like it is always tricky when kids tell you something because it can be challenging to know what kind of pain they are talking about. is it growing pains or something more, etc.

Yay for port removal! Glad to hear she's doing well

I wish your son the best.
Thank you. I felt terrible that I didn't realize sooner what was going on-- but in winter, it can be low vit. D, or a virus, growing pains, we got a bounce house for Christmas & I thought maybe he bounced wrong...

It can be so many things and the way kids can't always say clearly how this feels different from other types of pain makes it challenging too. Heck, think of how many adults down play pain or discomfort before getting things looked at.
