Shorti's birthday is coming up. She has repeatedly asked for an LOL doll. She has one she got for christmas and I was HORRIFIED at the amount of trash that was involved in opening one stupid little ball with a little plastic doll inside. Like, if you're lucky enough to not have experienced this...the trash is part of the experience. It's a toy basically designed for youtube unboxing and comes wrapped in multiple layers of plastic wrappings with little papers inside. I didn't realize until I was witnessing it.
Of course she keeps asking for another. They're not expensive, so I have the guilts for not just saying yes to the stupid thing. But omg, SO MUCH TRASH FOR ONE STUPID LITTLE DOLL. She loves it though. She hasn't even lost any of the stupid little things it came with.
Gah. I hate having to be a hardass about things like this, but seriously, no. It annoys me the things even exist.
So...on a less curmudgeonly note...anybody have any suggestions for board games a 6 year old? Super bonus points for cooperative games and games she can play Sizzli (he's 3) with some help. We have hoot hoot owl and they love that. Something that involves some math or reading or something would be good.
An LOL toy is what I got my niece for Christmas but I had no idea what it was. Longest unwrapping ever. And she totally performed it for us like she was in YT video lol
My kids love the Eye Found It board games (they’re 6 and 3). There’s several versions. They also like sneaky snacks squirrel and a few other made by that brand. Hungry hungry hippo and the fishing game are also hits but not cooperative.
Somehow we’ve escaped the LOL dolls, I’m so glad. I’m hoping now that she’s almost 7 maybe she’ll miss it forever.
Junior Monopoly Any form of ludo but I particularly like the ones where the die is in a popping thing in the middle so its doesn't get lost! Top Trumps (DS2 needs help with this one. WE have Dinosaurs and wonders of the world) Snakes and ladders
I note that they don't do any cooperative games!!!
DD is seriously obsessed with LOL dolls. I hate them as well. Santa got her a beautiful American Girl doll for Christmas. She likes it, but she LOVES her LOL dolls.
They are the worst. But damn if the kids don't love them.
I say get it for her and try to recycle the packaging as much as you can.

At these ages I like the cooperative games because then shorti can direct her brother without it being a cheating issue and we don't have to always play too. In the next year or so once he can follow the gameplay a bit better they can go head to head. Right now he loses interest halfway though hoot hoot owl but it doesn't matter because she can basically play his turn and it doesn't change anything.

I like cooperative games too - but they are ridiculous competitive with each other and tend to gravitate towards the games where they can beat each other as that's their favourite bits

LOL! Ive been surprised at how non-competitive my kids are actually. They do NOT take after us in this way. Like they race to the car or the front door pretty much every day, but shorti will regularly let her brother win. Maybe once he outgrows her and can beat her fairly that'll change?

Mine are just under 2 years apart and the same gender which I think feeds into the competitiveness. DS2 is also a card whizz so he is not far off DS1 in skills despite the age difference so DS1 has to work to beat them at some things which I guess fuels the competition! Enjoy the cooperation while it lasts.

My kids are so competitive too. Who knew hungry hungry hippo could be so serious?! My oldest also likes to try to cheat, which makes me not happy. I imagine it’s just going to get worse too as H gets older to play more real games.
Not a board game but do you have Snap Circuits? I hand those out like Oprah to kids I like because they're tons of fun and secretly educational. DS got his first set when he was 4; he needed a lot of help then but by the time he was in kindergarten he could build anything by himself. We started with the Junior set but after a few birthdays and Christmases we're drowning in expansion sets and now he and his friends will play with them for hours.
Speaking of birthdays, I have to fly out super early on DS's and I'm sad about it. We'll have already celebrated over the weekend, but I hate to miss the actual day.
Would it be terrible to wake him up before I leave and give him a cupcake then?
Hedbanz is a fun game for kids, and we also love Playmobil stuff.
Personllly, today was the first day of the school strike and I created a treasure hunt to distract them from the change. I fear I may have set an unsustainable precedent.
BB will maybe get her cast off tomorrow. I am hoping she does because I am tired of getting hit in the face with it. That shit hurts.
Glad it wasn't an awfully long time, although I'm sure it felt that way <3
It has been the longest, shortest three weeks ever. The cast, and ear infection, and then the flu for her and I. I've lived three years in those short weeks. Hope all is well on your end <3

Oh boy. I'm sorry you've had a rough go.
C's been fine. D and I have felt a little icky recently but nothing major.

babyharpy went to the dentist today. She has 12 teeth and they look great! H said she only cried a little and of course everyone loved her. How is my baaaayyyyybeeeee getting so big? I clearly need to have another so I can get more squishy baby snuggles.
