I am planning on moving on Sunday - I signed my lease, paid my deposit and all that jazz a month ago. I got a phone call last night that, oops, previous tenants haven't moved out yet so there is no way its going to be ready for me.
I have zero flexibility on my move in date and I am stressed. So far, the only solutions they have are 1 - switch to a studio unit which is not good for me, one of the reasons I am moving it to not be in a studio. Or, I can move into another unit, and then just move again when my unit is ready, which could be anywhere between 1 week and 1 month. Neither of these options are great for me. But I don't really know what I can do at this point.
I am extra-annoyed because I was at the community on Saturday and there was no mention of this potential issue. They had to have known it was a potential issue at that point, but they said nothing.
jigsy - I wouldn’t switch to a studio. I’d move into another unit and move again. Ask them to pay to store your stuff or at least pay for the people to move it the second time. It will be a PITA to move twice, but better than settling for a studio long term.
Sorry calamity. I went through 5 Biologics before finding one that would work or didn’t give an injection site reaction. I hope you find something soon.

Why are they not kicking the people out? I would think they had not renewed the lease which is why it was available. And what are they planning to do between them moving out and you moving in? Is it anything they could do with you in the unit?
jigsy The lease has been signed by you and the landlord, right? I’d tell them that they aren’t holding up their end of the deal so it’s their problem and that you will not be settling for a different apartment or going thru the hassle of moving twice. I rather live in an extended stay hotel than move twice. Are you sure the current tenants will even be gone by the end of the new timeframe?

jigsy Is staying in a hotel or one of those extended stay places temporarily an option? I'd of course demand that they pay you to do so as well as the cost to store your items, assuming you have a signed lease. Definitely check Tenant Laws in your state. That's crazy.
Thanks all. Being in CA, tenants have a lot of rights. So good for me in some ways, but it's also why they cant just kick them out. It would be at a month if they have to formally evict, though they obviously hope it doesn't come to that.
I get that the apartment is in a tough spot too, but, yeah, it's on them to make it right. But I also still want to live there, so I dont want to blow the relationship up completely.

But weren't they on a lease? Did they not renew? this seems crazy to me and understandably frustrating for you. i hope they are able to come up with a resolution that you are happy with and that you get in there soon!

Yes, while I don't know exactly how it played out, I imagine they didn't renew the lease/gave 30 day notice...then just didn't move out.
In continuing the saga of an unproductive day, the dog's daycare called just as my new desk was finished that I needed to come get the dogs. Daycare had lost power, and the electric company didn't know when they would get it back on.
SO - over to daycare to get the dogs, then I brought them to the office while I got things set back up. My older coonhound took a nap in the CFO's office (he sent me a video of her snoring!), while the younger JRT hung out with HR. My boss and I got the office together, then I came home. I have zero motivation to do any actual work though - and I know this is going to bite me in the butt. I need to find some small easy things to do just to get them out of the way. I put in a lot of hours at work, but I'm very appreciative of how flexible they are with me concerning the dogs. I've never told them that I can't have kids/my dog's are my babies, but they pretty much picked up on that right away.

i still don't get why they can't make them move if they did not renew and most likely got notice. i feel like i am living in crazy town. lol

They are working on it, but to formally evict someone in CA, it takes time - usually at least a month. The tenant apparently just keeps pushing the move date back every week

One more random, apparently O-Town has a new song. It's not good, but they haven't aged much. I forget if we talked about the reality show one of the guys had well after the band was no more, but I watched the crap out of that, no shame.
Apartment update - they are giving me a larger unit - rent is higher, but, they discounted the monthly rent by 10%, which is pretty significant. But, I'll have an extra room, only have one neighbor instead of two, and I'll be on the top floor, so no one above me.
I don't love spending more per month, but, its a deal, and I'll only have to move once. lol

It might be pushing it but I’d see I’d they could give you even more of a discount. Do you have any lawyer friends who could write a threatening letter? Lol
I am loling that the thread about red wine and vomit in the purse stains was deleted.
Dammit why? I didn’t even bother to look because the topic was so mundane.
I'm not sure. Last I saw the OP was being questioned about why on earth she didn't believe the car puker when she said she was feeling carsick, because the car puker "wasn't acting like" she was carsick. I thought it had potential, lol, so I went back to look and it was gone.

That was me pushing. They first offered 3% reduction, I countered 10%, they took it. Maybe I should have countered 15% lol
jigsy How long is the discount valid? Will you still be able to afford it when it’s up or will you just move? I absolutely hate moving so I’d be apprehensive.

Snow Day!!!
We played outside a lot and I'm considering ordering pizza-- is that good or bad for the delivery person? Our street is plowed but I don't want to endanger anyone. However, I would tip extra!

Girl With No Job is there tonight sitting with Margaret Josephs. Have fun!

Who is Girl With No Job?
And I'm JELLLLLYYYYYY! It looks so campy and fun--if one is a Bravo RHW fan, which I am.
