My father does not like roller coasters of any kind and went on it so my mom did not have to go on it alone and didn’t like it. I mean he survived and everything but in the ride video you can clearly see his discomfort. I would just ask your in laws.
Now my not even 3 year old niece was completely fine.

My mom is not a roller coaster person and liked it. Kid1 was 3 when she rode on it but she loooooves roller coasters. She keeps talking to Kid2, who will probably hit 40” this summer but is a scaredy cat, to go on the 40” minimum coaster at our local amusement park. I highly doubt he will more than once 😂

Neither of my kids really liked or disliked it. It's not jerky, but the corners are pretty deep if that makes sense. No huge hills though, which is nice. I would say yes to your 4 year old, have the ILs skip.

I’m not a roller coaster fan but I like Mine Train. My 7 year old daughter loves it but she was really nervous the first time we tried it. I’d recommend asking to sit in the front row.. By the time the coaster starts to go fast, by sitting in the first row, you’re already half way down the hill. A CM recommended the first row after hearing my daughter say she was scared to ride. It worked out great for us.
I told my mother it was a baby roller coaster. Boy, did we get a good photo when that drop came. She survived, btw.
My 4-year old *loved* it. Especially when you rock it back and forth when you're in the mine singing along to the dwarfs! It's pretty mild with just one "drop" that isn't actually bad at all.
I think it's smoother and less scary than SDD. It was the first coaster my son (3 at the time) rode and he loved it - although we've since figured out that he loves all coasters. My MIL is not a coaster person and didn't think it was too bad when we rode it last month.
There's a big difference in thrill factor between the front and the back row. The front is less thrilling and the back can whip you around. Same with Big Thunder.
We love it, except my oldest who hates most exciting rides. lol It is smooth as silk and since the cars swing with the turns you are not jostled about in the car.

Update: H and I rode, my 10 year old decided he didn’t want to, so I modified our FPs so MIL took he and DD on Under the Sea instead. (DS totally could have handled it and even DD but I wasn’t in the mood to persuade 😜) I did keep waiting for a huge drop but it never came. It is a fun, cute ride regardless.
