The Caribbean Adventure "super edition" of the Fabulous Five was my favorite book ever one summer (after 5th or 6th grade I think). I cannot even tell you how many times I borrowed it from the library. lol
i think I wanted to be Jana. lol Ah, the beauty and power of books.
Jalapeñomel, i need to re-read my Lois Duncan books. Stranger With My Face was awesome.
They hold up well! And the book about the IRL murder of her daughter is good too.
I loved Lois Duncan and read everything of hers. I was sooooo mad in college when the movie for "I Know What You Did Last Summer" came out since it wasn't quite the right story!
Did you ever read The View From The Cherry Tree by Willo Davis Roberts?
Oh and did anyone read the book about the girl who's dad is marrying a woman, from the south maybe new orleans area, with a son and daughter from a previous marriage but it turns out they are immortal and were born something like 100 years before?
Yes this was Lois Duncan, right? Locked in Time maybe? I loved all of her books.
I feel like to hunt down The Fabulous Five books now. Having a kid that is just starting to love reading makes me want to re-read all my favorites!
I kept that one for a long time. It had a really interesting ending.
Also, if anyone read Sweet Valley High, and wanted to revisit some of those books, please know that almost the entire catalog is available to read on your Kindle, free, with Amazon Prime.
Just be sure your Amazon doesn't automatically update your Goodreads list, lest you want all your literary minded friends to know that on a Tuesday morning you spent your commute reading Sweet Valley High #97:The Verdict.
I don't know whether I love you or hate you right now!
In addition to the usual suspects, a few of my favorite series that don't get mentioned often in these lists were Cheerleaders, The Girls of Canby Hall, and Class of '89. I also loved this one trilogy about a super awkward girl named Kobie that covered her life from ages 13-15.
I recall reading that book in school in 5th grade. It wasn't a "school" book, just what I'd brought from home to read during quiet reading time. I remember the teacher called my mom to have a talk with her, and then she got all pissy because my mom said she was o.k. with it. Lol - I was a bit of an...advanced reader, apparently.
I think I was about that age when I started reading them too... got the first one from the library and then my dad would periodically surprise me with a new one LOL talk about semi-inappropriate gifts!

I loved this book! I would looooove a book club that rereads these old favorites and sees how they hold up!

and bonus points for books that would be quick reads.

I so regret donating my teen books!
The Kobie Roberts books? I think there are 5 or so, they started when she was 10.
I liked the Anastasia Krumpnik books (also Lois Lowery) but it annoys me to this day that in one, she talks about how she wanted to join a club where the girls all had nicknames that ended in “i” like Salli or Bobbi and she didn’t have one and that Anastasia was a long, boring name. Hello! What about Ani or Staci??
I was a HUGE Christopher Pike reader in middle school - love love loved! About 10 years ago, I met a girl with a lot of his books so I borrowed and re-read. So much nostalgia! :-D
There is one random, obscure book that has crept into my thoughts many times over the years but I cannot remember much about it, other than it involved witches. I believe the cover was artwork of a teenage-ish girl with brown hair, closeup on her upper body/face, drawn in purple-y tones. I think she had magic powers and defeated an older witch (or witches). I would have read it in the early to mid '90s, but it could be older than that. Anyone?

I don’t think I did but I loved her The Girl with the Silver Eyes!
On the subject of obscure books- there’s one I read as a kid that I CANNOT remember the name of and it’s killing me
The main character was a girl who was like 12 maybe? Her dad and her uncle had just been killed in a car accident. She and her mom go to visit her Grandmother, and her aunt and cousin are both there too. Her mom tells her that she and her aunt have been fighting because just before the accident, the dad and uncle found money missing from their business, and the aunt thinks the girls dad stole out. It turns out it was actually the uncle, and the girl finds the money hidden in a dollhouse (?) in the attic
I have googled to no end and it has been killing me for months

The Secret Circle trilogy by LJ Smith possibly? The first book is The Initiation.
