On the subject of obscure books- there’s one I read as a kid that I CANNOT remember the name of and it’s killing me
The main character was a girl who was like 12 maybe? Her dad and her uncle had just been killed in a car accident. She and her mom go to visit her Grandmother, and her aunt and cousin are both there too. Her mom tells her that she and her aunt have been fighting because just before the accident, the dad and uncle found money missing from their business, and the aunt thinks the girls dad stole out. It turns out it was actually the uncle, and the girl finds the money hidden in a dollhouse (?) in the attic
I have googled to no end and it has been killing me for months

I would have sworn the the title had the word attic in it, but all googling ever turned up was V.C. Andrews or some book called The Castle in the Attic
You are my new favorite and I am off to see where I can find a copy of it
I was a HUGE Christopher Pike reader in middle school - love love loved! About 10 years ago, I met a girl with a lot of his books so I borrowed and re-read. So much nostalgia! :-D
There is one random, obscure book that has crept into my thoughts many times over the years but I cannot remember much about it, other than it involved witches. I believe the cover was artwork of a teenage-ish girl with brown hair, closeup on her upper body/face, drawn in purple-y tones. I think she had magic powers and defeated an older witch (or witches). I would have read it in the early to mid '90s, but it could be older than that. Anyone?
Is it Witch’s Sister by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor (it has a new cover on Goodreads, but if you Google Image it, you’ll see the old cover(s))? I loved this book!

Yay! It sounded familiar so I did some googling (“children's book dead father uncle finding money in attic”) and there it was!

The Secret Circle trilogy by LJ Smith possibly? The first book is The Initiation.

Wow, reading the synopsis, this definitely sounds like it could be it! The character names and plot all sounds familiar, but the cover artwork does not. It's possibly I'm confusing the cover with a different book, but I think this might be it!
Post script - there was an obscure book I read in 3rd grade that I've been trying to figure out since, well since 3rd grade, lol. I googled for years. The only thing I remember was that it was a collection of short stories and one featured a princess who cut off a cat's whiskers so her hair screamed at her for years for punishment. Typing that into google yielded nothing for the longest time - until a few years ago, I finally found it. I purchased a used copy of the book on Amazon. Solving that mystery was so satisfying.

OMG DING DING DING, I have officially found it AND the cover I was thinking of. You were so close, Krystee - it was "The Witch's Eye," which is #4 in the Witch Saga by the same author! Wow, itch majorly scratched!
I loved Lois Duncan and read everything of hers. I was sooooo mad in college when the movie for "I Know What You Did Last Summer" came out since it wasn't quite the right story!
Did you ever read The View From The Cherry Tree by Willo Davis Roberts?

Also, if anyone read Sweet Valley High, and wanted to revisit some of those books, please know that almost the entire catalog is available to read on your Kindle, free, with Amazon Prime.
Just be sure your Amazon doesn't automatically update your Goodreads list, lest you want all your literary minded friends to know that on a Tuesday morning you spent your commute reading Sweet Valley High #97:The Verdict.
I don't know whether I love you or hate you right now!

Omg loved this book! And Locked in Time, and everything Joan Lowery Nixon. And Castle in the Attic. Great nostalgia in this post <3
Bookmarking this thread. I would totally be down for a BC of old-school YA fiction.
I was (am) a huge fan of SVH, the Sunfire Romance books, the pre-ghost writer VC Andrews (well, at least the Dollanganger and Casteel series and the totally effed up stand-alone My Sweet Audrina), the Satin Slippers series (about a budding ballerina), and too many others to count.
Does anyone remember Norma Klein? LOVED her books, but a few months back, I re-read one I still have (Love is One of the Choices) where Caroline, a senior in high school, develops a crush on her hot, married chemistry teacher, Justin (how sad is it that I still remember their names?) and he RETURNS her feelings. When I was in highschool, having a hot history teacher, I thought it was all kinds of amazing but now?
SKEEVY.
Even though she's 18 before they have sex, still...teacher/student...shudders.
In addition to the usual suspects, a few of my favorite series that don't get mentioned often in these lists were Cheerleaders, The Girls of Canby Hall, and Class of '89. I also loved this one trilogy about a super awkward girl named Kobie that covered her life from ages 13-15.
I so regret donating my teen books!
The Cheerleaders series was a favorite of mine! I remember rooting for Patrick and Mary Ellen, and was disappointed when she wound up marrying Pres. I'm embarrassed/proud that I remember this....
Richie Tankersley Cusick anyone? I loved Trick or Treat.
I spent 3 hours one day googling "young adult horror house with tunnel to cemetery" in order to find this book. Then promptly ordered a used copy from amazon. Loved it!
I'm currently re-reading the BSC and trying to collect all the books I'm missing. Total nerd. I've also tried organizing a book club around the '80s/early '90s young adult fiction at a local craft brew place, no real luck. I blame the lack of interest on being in a tiny town, but maybe I just am THAT lame.
