I have two hotel reservations (pre-paid but refundable) through Expedia. I found a coupon code to use with hotels.com that will save me >$200 between the two reservations. I am debating if I should cancel the reservations with Expedia and re-book with hotels.com, or if I should submit a price guarantee request-- the price guarantee seems the easiest but I am worried they will find a loophole and not honour it - and because they have 3 days to respond, the code will no longer be valid with hotels.com. Has anyone used the price guarantee? Has it worked or were they super picky?
I haven't but if I was you I'd rebook to get the cheaper price on hotels.com and once it's set, cancel the Expedia bookings. Seems like it'd be faster and easier than trying to get the refund through Expedia.

I’m not sure why going through the price guarantee process would be “easiest” — I usually find that not having to deal with an actual person is the path of least resistance!

Just because then I don’t have to wait and watch for $2400 to be refunded to my credit card! If I put the new reservations on my card I’ll be close to my limit until the original ones get refunded. But you’re probably right- that is the easier route.
