Hi there - we went on the Disney Fantasy(7night Eastern - St. Thomas, Tortola, and Castaway Cay) last week for Spring Break and thought I'd write up a little report.
It was me, DH and DS (7), plus some other family members and friends. This was our second Disney cruise, first was a 4 night on the Wonder two years ago.
Overall we had a great time. The seas were a bit rocky most of the trip, but the only one that it affects is DH, and he is actually still struggling a bit, he's still taking Bonine, but it's not really helping.
We were in a mid-ship Verandah cabin on deck 10. We loved the location, right up one flight to the pool deck and all the food. Some people complain that when in their staterooms they can hear the noise above. We heard it, but it didn't bother us at all. Would totally book this cabin again.
As per last time DS hated the kids club. We sent him only when we had our adult only things booked. We did brunch in Palo, which was excellent. And then three beverage seminars (Mixology, Tequila/Margarita tasting, and Chocolate/liquour pairing). All of these have an up charge, but we loved all of them.
DS loved playing the mid-ship detective. It was a lot of fun and great way to get in a ton of steps for the day He also loved the aquaduck. DH and DS rode it multiple times in the evening with hardly any waits.
We had second seating for dinner (8:15) which we prefer. We usually grab a late afternoon snack and then enjoy watching movies on deck and swimming with half the ship at the early seating and/or the show. We only went to one show (Magician - which was pretty cheesy, even the kid didn't like it). Aladdin is dark right now which was a bummer because that was the one show we had wanted to see. Food was overall okay. Some things better than others, nothing terrible, but nothing outstanding either.
We did the half day Disney excursion to the Baths in Tortola. The excursion I felt was a bit oversold, and quite crowded. The Baths themselves were beautiful, and DS had a blast playing in the ocean. Tortola is still in pretty bad shape from the hurricane, but they were happy to have us visit and help stimulate their economy to help rebuild.
We had planned to take a taxi in St. Thomas to Magen's Bay, but after the day before at the beach in Tortola nobody was really up for it We did a bit of shopping and then enjoyed a mostly empty ship.
Castaway was as beautiful as I remembered from last trip. We spent all day there, DS had a blast.
Overall it was a great trip. I do think on a 7 night there needs to be another port of call. We had 3 sea days, plus embarkation day which seemed like a lot. I didn't notice much of difference in size/people but DH did. He preferred the smaller ship with less people (2500 on the Wonder, about 4000 on the Fantasy). Even though DS doesn't like the kids club, I would probably still cruise Disney for a couple of more years because of everything else that we really enjoy. The character meets were awesome with waits so short compared to the parks.
Thanks for the report! Why didn't your DS like the kids club?
I'm not really sure. DS is an only and used to being around us a lot. I think if he knew someone or had made a friend he may have liked it better. He did fine while he was in there, mostly played video games.
Nice report! Good to know about the length of your cruise and wanting one more port/stop. I want to do a cruise in the next few years when DS is a little bigger so I like reading all the reports.
Thanks for the write up. I’m considering a Disney cruise for the end of summer and this particular ship/itinerary. BB is 3 though so I wonder how much she will like the activities etc. but the reason I’m considering the cruise is bc of her, so full circle in a way.

Is BB potty-trained? If not she will not be allowed in the pools (no swim diapers in the pools), but she can go to Nemo's reef which is a splash area. Also if not potty-trained kids can't be in the club, you can only go to the nursery. Things to keep in mind.

She is PTed thankfully so that does help. Except I realized that since we waited the price is crazy high for flights and it makes the whole trip expensive/more than we want to spend.
