I’m not sure what I’d do if this recall happened when I still had an infant. Both my kids slept in the rock n play almost exclusively for months, they refused to sleep on a flat surface.
Co sleeping is also a risk as is being so exhausted you fall asleep on a couch with the baby, etc
The thing is that humans can literally not just not sleep, and not everybody has options to use night nannies or family or a partner to help Etc.
I guess I’m glad I don’t have to try to make this decision, and I’m sorry for those who do.
That rock and play was a godsend that first couple months.
I know! I still remember how amazing it was. If I placed them in a crib they’d wake constantly but in the rock n play they would sleep 3 hours straight, that thing saved my sanity.

This exactly. I’d have had a breakdown if the recall had happened when my babies were small!
“I think there's a lot of stress because for many parents, they understand that sleep in the crib is the gold standard for safety. They understand that. These are not parents who are uninformed. But they're also miserably sleep deprived. The reality is people suffer seriously from sleep deprivation. What happens is we fall back into kind of desperation-based, unsafe behaviors. “
“The Rock 'n Play was a relatively inexpensive and effective - in terms of helping children sleep better - tool to be used for a few months after birth that probably helped a lot of people who maybe couldn't afford other options. So absolutely, there's a huge amount of privilege in having the resources to get access to postpartum doulas and night nurses and have a spouse who has a job that would get them paid leave so they can help out at night.”
“I would love to see more research and insights from the AAP about the relative risk of various sleep options because simply telling people that the crib is the only option for your child in practicality is not a reasonable response.”
Having the rock n play was literally the only way my DD slept for the first 3 months of her life. I remember crying in my Drs office at her 2 week check up because I was so tired and she was fussy all the time. Sleep deprivation is no joke for moms right after the baby is born. We definitely need better care and support for moms after birth.
My heart also goes out to anyone that has lost a child.
