I said this in ML but I’m really annoyed at a doula agency who won’t guarantee I can meet the doula who might attend the birth before hand. I understand hiring a specific person and that she has a back up but it’s not unreasonable to ask to meet the backup. This agency has you hire a doula and then the other 8 take turns being on call. The whole point is to know and trust them...how am I supposed to do that if I have never met you?!?!

1. How far along are you this week? 17w 4d
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I’m feeling better. My head cold is almost cleared up after about two weeks and our house is on the market and showing well. Now we just need an offer to get the ball rolling. Somebody please buy my house! I am feeling lots of baby movement and I looked down this afternoon and noticed the right side of my belly stuck out an inch more than my left. If I get another kid who likes hanging out in the transverse position through the entire pregnancy I’m going to be sad. That hurt.
3. Questions for the group?
4. What will you have your baby sleep in for the first few months? This is on my mind heavily with the RNP recall, etc. I used a bassinet my Dad built for me when I was born for DD1. It is basically a tiny wooden crib on tall legs so not much worry there. May use it again. Occasionally we also used the newborn napper overnight, but that was when we went to the cottage. Our newborn napper is not at all padded though so it seems pretty safe to me for an inclined sleep surface. She was in her crib by 3 months before she even started to roll over because I couldn’t handle the baby pterodactyl sounds anymore.
Susie I had glucose in my blood towards the end with DS1 and they had me do a three hour. I passed. No GD with DS2 but he was 10lbs + so now I wonder if I did and just happened to pass the test. Having been diagnosed with GD this time around and with monitoring my blood sugar I am more confused about how diabetes is controlled than ever.
My OB just noticed I had glucose in my urine, I haven't had a blood test since I passed the 1 hour test 6-7 weeks ago.
I'm so freaking uncomfortable at this point, I am not sure I'd be willing to take a 3 hour test. By the time I see my OB again, I'll only have 6 weeks to go, 5 weeks if I agree to a 39w induction, and I'd rather just pull out my glucose meter from last time and do finger sticks. I may start doing some spot checks just to see how the numbers look, I guess that would be the most definitive way to answer whether it's an issue anyway.
Susie I monitored for a week each month with my other pregnancies and it was really not too bad. Especially since you know what to look for and are close to the end that seems like a good option
chocolatepie, I completely understand where you are coming from! I've had moments along the way worrying about that too because my symptoms seem to disappear for days at a time. The IF mind game doesnt end once we get pregnant I hope Wednesday gets here quickly and you find the reassurance you need at your appt! ((Hugs))
namasteak, that would annoy me too. There was one agency here that had the same setup and we went elsewhere. Now we have two doula's we work with and get to know the entire pregnancy, and one of the two will be at our birth. That was good enough for me. Good luck.

That’s the more common set up! This agency is just so weird. They also charge $30/hour for postpartum doula but aren’t even breastfeeding educators let alone IBClC.
I’m not even sure I’ll end up hiring one but this was so weird to run into I had to share.
Nah. Although I think I figured out why I was so sick the last few weeks- I had a pilonidal cyst and apparently they can make you sick. Its gone now, and I feel MUCH better. I mean, still tired and pregnant but less like I want to crawl into my bed every 10 minutes.
Augh - I feel your pain! I fought one of those for years, finally had the open surgery to remove it, and it was such a nightmare. I ran fever constantly thanks to it and always felt like crap. I'm so glad yours is gone! I can't imagine dealing with it and being pregnant.
It was the most insane thing ever, I would have never known what it was if I hadn't awkwardly mentioned it my BFF lol. Once it was gone it was like instantly I was a new person haha. I hope yours never comes back! I think from what I've seen they don't after the surgery but my friend said hers was brutal so here's to hoping I don't ever have to do that!
namasteak that's the weirdest doula group I've ever heard of!
I found an organization that does postpartum care, including doulas and mainly lactation. Totally separate from the birth doulas. Maybe there's something like that in your area, at least for after? Mine is completely free, you just need to sign up in advance.
farfalla2011, I hadn't either! I'm *pretty sure* I didn't use it with my first pregnancy but I don't even remember! My dr is usually pretty lax about stuff but its not a bad idea to check ingredients first I suppose
hamster, I'll check that out for sure! If I'm being honest I usually use it for flavor and protein is an added bonus haha. Good idea on the additions, maybe I'll try some of that!

Not that I’ve found but there are other doulas I’ll reach out to. I really just need to here from DH he will can actually take his PTO and be home for 3 weeks . ...
turbo with DHs travel we have considered a night nurse but all the ones I’ve found require 3-4 nights as a minimum. When looking for yours did you run into this? How did you find someone who would be willing to only come one night a week? Did you bf? I plan to again and know that will also effect the stretches of sleep I can do the first few weeks....
1. How far along are you this week? 26w5d...tomorrow starts 3rd tri. Eek!!
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week?1. I passed my GD test! 2. I found out from my OB today that she does not recommend going past my due date be cause I'm AMA (I turn 38 a month before Girlfriend's due date). Assuming my NSTs starting at 36 weeks look good, we're looking at induction sometime in the 39th week if I don't go before then. I'd much prefer to go on my own, but if I don't then its eviction time and I'm fine with that.
3. FILs roommate/girlfriend (long story) told us on Saturday that she wants to host a shower for us (despite me telling her its not necessary...2nd kid and all). Which is so damn sweet of her but damn I think I'm going to need to put together a small registry at Target.
3. Questions for the group? Newp.
4. What will you have your baby sleep in for the first few months? This is on my mind heavily with the RNP recall, etc. Space in our bedroom is tight so I'm probably going to get a bassinet of some sort.
turbo, I have the same questions as namasteak,. If you breastfed, how did it work with the night nurse? How many days a week would you recommend? I'm considering twice a week for three weeks once my mom heads home.
namasteak, my doula company also offers postpartum doula services or nighttime visits. They have a four hour minimum for daytime and 8 hour minimum for night time, and we can hire for as few as 8 hours. It's an hourly rate.
osulori, I'm right there with you. My OB team is recommending the same. I'm still trying to come to terms with it, but we'll likely induce sometime late in the 39th week.
farfalla2011 I had a really rough start after IVF, which has resulted in a lot of anxiety this pregnancy, so I completely understand. I am not sure if it is something that would help you, but I bought a Doppler off amazon and it has really helped in moments of anxiety to calm me down.

That is awesome! I totally get a minimum number of hours but am wondering why I keep running into minimum number of days/week. To be honest, I have only looked at 2 night nurses and the weirdo doula company. ....
I'm really hoping that it works out DH is only gone Sun-Wed (3 nights a week) and then hiring someone 1 night a week would make a huge difference in how hard it would be to have him gone.

Do it and then you can get a completion bonus too!

The night nurse will bring baby to you for breastfeeding. Or you could pump milk and have her give baby a bottle (maybe not all the feedings - depending on baby and supply). Our night nurse had a three x a week minimum. She did all the laundry/folding during the night as well.

I'm not thrilled about the idea...I went into labor on my own at 39w5d with AJ so fingers crossed Girlfriend decides to make her way to the exit on her own during that week too. I get why they're recommending it though (higher rate of placental deterioration after due date in FT moms) so if it needs to happen then so be it.

I know. It’s so hard to consider the .06% increase in risk a huge mitigating factor but my OB said that in the OB world, that kind of measurable risk is pretty high. *shrugs*

1. How far along are you this week? 11+6
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? Yesterday we had our NT scan...dr said everything looks perfect! Baby was bouncing all over the place and we finally got to hear the HB! We also did the NIPT bloodwork, so we should have the gender in about a week!
3. Questions for the group?
4. What will you have your baby sleep in for the first few months? This is on my mind heavily with the RNP recall, etc. I honestly have no idea, probably some sort of bassinet...I’ll definitely be interested to read others responses.

I'm also AMA and my OB favors induction at 39w, although not exactly for the same (at least primary) reasons. I really dislike the idea of an induction, but I have to say the closer I get, the more attractive it seems to me. He first brought it up at 20w and at that point I was pretty against. Now at 33w (tomorrow) I'm like... you mean I get a definite end date for this agony? Sign me up. Not exactly, but I'm having so much anxiety about childcare for #1 because I have a history of precipitous delivery, leaving no time to wait for anyone to show up. An induction would smooth that out so much, and really ease my mind. The OB I saw last week was also super encouraging that an induction could be done in a variety of ways depending on what I was comfortable with, what I wanted/didn't want, and she expressed a lot of confidence in my ability to deliver reasonably quickly for an induction as a STM with a successful (fast) vaginal delivery behind me. I feel a lot better about the idea of it after that app't.
Mostly I decided I was going to keep an open mind as long as possible, because until we know we don't have a breech baby/etc., we don't know if the question is even relevant! No need to borrow worry. He was head down in my 32w u/s last week though so it seems likely that vaginal delivery and induction are very much on the table.
woowoo, right?! In my head that doesn't seem like a huge increase but I keep telling myself that OBs have to look at it differently.
Susie, I didn't have a quick delivery last time (please god don't make this a repeat of AJ's 29 hours) but my OB seemed encouraged by the fact that he did come on his own (even if he did require many hours of Pitocin, lots of pushing, and eventual vacuum extraction to get his big ol' head out of my vagina) and is hopeful that this would work in my favor for an induction with Girlfriend. And I do like the idea of possibly knowing WHEN she's coming, even though she could still come on her own. It could make things a lot easier with childcare planning-thankfully my parents are only 25 minutes away but still.
Just one more thing to add to the #oldmomproblems list...
Blah. I found a drop in daycare place for C to go in the event I go into early labor while MIL is out if town. I've been trying to schedule a day for him to go in advance. We keep hitting snags, and I'm not feeling very confident in this person/plan. Plus this is two weeks in a row my free day off has gotten squashed.
The good news is MIL said somebody volunteered as back up, and it's someone we really should have thought of in the first place.
Susie, and osulori, I agree that I may be super on board with induction by that point. My mom arrives the day before I hit 39 weeks and that's also when I'm planning on stopping work (I manage a pretty big team and we have task force starting to fill in for me that week, so it's just easier for everyone if I give a firm date - including me!). My plan is to (if I'm dialated at all) start all the homeopathic crap in week 38, have membranes swept and get a massage on Monday (39w1d), acupuncture Tuesday, massage again Wednesday and induction scheduled for Thursday or Friday. That way I've tried everything I could to start labor on my own and if none of that works, then ah well!
Or maybe I'll be like my sister with all three of her babies and go 3-4 weeks early!
I am so not good at waiting for information. Especially when it could help me plan ! Come on DHs client (he’s a consultant) tell him if you approve his leave plan or if he’s rolling off the project!
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? Had my 16 week appointment yesterday, so that made me feel a lot better. Anatomy scan scheduled for May 13. SO FAR AWAY. My major complaint is that everything I eat seems to sit in my stomach like cement and I'm uncomfortable for like 2 hours after I eat. SO THAT'S FUN.
We've been putting off announcing for no particular reason. We were going to wait until the anatomy scan, but we're going to be seeing so many people between now and then and I'm getting pretty big. So I bought P a "Big Brother" tshirt online yesterday so we can hopefully get a decent picture and announce later this week.
3. Questions for the group? See below
4. What will you have your baby sleep in for the first few months? This is on my mind heavily with the RNP recall, etc. P slept in the pack and play next to our bed (with the bassinet insert). This kid will do the same. P only stayed in it until 9 weeks, when we moved him to his crib because we figured out that we were keeping him awake - he slept through the night as soon as we moved him to his room. UNICORN MIRACLE BABY. No one gets two of those, do they?
The big question is day time. P always hung out in the RnP during the day. I don't really want a bouncer or swing because I feel like they're too low to the ground. With P running around, I want something a little higher. But I don't want it to have a huge foot print and take up too much of our family room. So maybe a bassinet? I don't feel any need to get something super expensive with all of the rocking, music, etc. etc. probably because I'm clouded by the fact that P didn't need any of it. So what do I get?
