KellyEasterbrook , we have flights booked to Spain for 9 weeks after my due date.
JEALOUS.
DH and I were trying to figure out if we could go on vacation this summer (really, I was nagging him because he brought it up without me asking but then WOULD NOT COMMIT to a timeframe when I was trying to plan AND IT MADE ME VERY ANGRY). I had some stuff come up at work and actually suggested that we wait until January-February (I'm due October 2, but P was 2 weeks early so I'm hoping this one is, too) and take a warm weather vacation. P was a dream at 3-4 months old and just slept snuggled up. If this one is the same, that could be a great trip (AND hopefully maybe P will be a little more well behaved by then (no he won't be)).

Well it remains to be seen whether traveling abroad with a 2.5 year old and a 2 month old is a good idea, but we're going for it lol. DH is a teacher, so he has the summer off and since our time off rarely overlaps we're taking advantage. We rented a kid-friendly airbnb in Barcelona and don't have big plans other than wondering around, eating, drinking, and hitting the beach.
I'm already dreading the red-eye over (we took one to Ireland when DS was 7 months and he cried almost the entire time), but figure if we can survive that we should (hopefully) be good! At that point I'll be tired no matter my geographic location so might as well be some place interesting with good wine

Tell me all about how it goes! My mother is constantly telling me i'm nuts for wanting to take the kids abroad at a relatively young age, but I want to travel! It's not like I'm trying to go spend the day at the louvre and 4* restaurants. I'd love to take them to Ireland and run around outside, pet sheep, and eat pub food.

Thad sounds perfect. I really want to go to Europe, we normally go during spring break (now) and I can’t stop daydreaming about it day and night. You’re going to have a fantastic time!

We had a great time in Ireland with DS doing just that! I'd highly recommend it as a kid-friendly trip. Our only mistake was that we tried to pack in too much and change hotels/accommodations every 1-2 nights. It would have been better to have picked just 1 or 2 home bases to ditch all of DS' crap instead of loading it into and out of the rental car every day or so.
And I'm with you on travel. I'm not going to take a 10 year break from travelling just because I have young kids, plus I think its pretty great to expose them to new places and people

Agreed! It's actually the number 1 struggle in my "Should I stay home after baby #2?" dilemma. I do not want to put us in a position where we can never afford to travel.

We did a similar trip with Ds1 at 7mo and his already bad sleep didnt get any worse and it was a nice change of pace!

KellyEasterbrook, I’m so excited that you have made it to almost 33 weeks. You’re doing amazing!
We were going to fly with a 4 week old but then we had no ID for him so we’re doing a road trip to Italy instead. But I would have totally done a short flight at that age. His first flight will be at 3 months old to Canada (8 hour flight).
Also for others. Europe is so child friendly so I totally recommend bringing kids here. It’s one of my favourite things about living here: kid and pet friendly. Our goal for the 1st year of his life is 9-10 countries.
farfalla2011 I had a really rough start after IVF, which has resulted in a lot of anxiety this pregnancy, so I completely understand. I am not sure if it is something that would help you, but I bought a Doppler off amazon and it has really helped in moments of anxiety to calm me down.
Lurker from TTTC here, but - which Doppler did you get? I’d like to purchase one to help me chill between Dr visits.

9 weeks is a good age to fly if they are a good baby (ie not colicky). We flew with Z at 3.5 months, so just a bit older and he slept basically the whole time. I nursed him at take off and he was out.
KellyEasterbrook I flew with DS1 on a long haul at 6 weeks and again at 10 weeks. Those were actually probably our easiest flights! Baby just ate and slept on me. I flew alone with him both ways - crew and fellow passengers were all so helpful, asking to help carry stuff etc.
robinsbff My DS1 and DS2 are four years apart and we will.hqve a similar age gap with our third. I'm not going to lie that first month was tough for DS1. Luckily he took it out on me and not his new little brother. When people came over to see the baby it helped if they ignored the baby at first and addressed DS1. Having my parents or DH watch the baby and being able to take DS1 out for an ice cream or drive him to camp (it was summer) alone without the baby in the car also helped.

This time I’m asking people we know to help with the bigger kids so they feel love & comfort from familiar sources. Then we are budgeting for help with baby for the gaps family/friends can’t fill.
I think my MIL is making up my mind re: induction.
We asked her forever ago to watch DD next Friday, when daycare is closed for a staff day. We're trying not to burn H's PTO on non-emergency, non-critical type days that can be planned in advance. We typically need her to be at our house by 8:30ish so we can get to work by 9. It is a 40 min drive for her, but honestly we ask her to do this once in a blue moon -- and she always offers to us that she "wants to help!"
The ONLY day/time I could get an OB app't for my 34w visit was 8:45am Fri, so I needed her to be like 15 mins earlier. H & I carpool to work due to parking downtown, so either he'd need to take the 8:21 bus (the latest one for that route) and I'd drive to the OB, or I'd drop him at work and continue to the OB. Either way, we both really need to leave by 8:15. MIL says 8:30 is her "best and final."
It's 15 minutes with a week's notice. This is the hill to die on? So I had to move my app't, which means cancelling my rare appointment with "my" OB (I have to rotate) and taking one on a different day with a nurse practitioner because there literally isn't a single OB slot available next week.
She is supposed to be our "need help now, in labor!" go-to for DD. She's the only person besides us on the list to pickup from daycare. This is not going to work. It will not be good enough if I'm in labor and the baby's coming fast, and MIL tells us that 5:45 is her "best and final" offer to pickup DD when daycare closes at 5:30! And I can totally see that happening.
I think we need to schedule an induction so we can have my dad here for it (he lives 5 hrs away). He's not super comfortable taking care of tiny kids, but he will be where he needs to be, when he needs to be there, and she'll be safe and cared for. Ugh. Why does this have to be so hard!?
Susie I would be pretty pissed and totally understand you scheduling to have your dad here.
x2. It’s 15 minutes and you were in a bind. What if you go into labor in the middle of the night? Will she show up? Because this is someone who acts like the difference between leaving her house at 7:35 and 7:50 is the end of the world. That’s ridiculous.

Susie I am sorry. This is completely ridiculous. I would prefer if the person offered no help, than conditional help. Can your dad come out and stay during the last week if you can’t set an induction date?
Susie I would be really annoyed. Are you friendly or close with any of the daycare teachers? If you went in labor and had a teacher who you trusted on call they could bring your daughter home and stay with her?

Susie my MIL would totally do the same thing so I get it. Honestly, I’d rather deliver my child alone so my H can watch DS than ask my MIL to be inconvenienced for this reason. I’m stubborn though. LOL.
I veto Tanner only because that was my dogs name and your beautiful baby should not have the same name as my old dog.
But I think Calvin flows really nicely with the middle name and the two C names aren’t too alike! I will admit thought that we’ve always kind of liked the name Peter if this kid is a boy but I fear people will think we’re going for a theme for having two kids with P names.

I like Peter too, but it would be so cruel with our last name! But yeah...H is concerned about the theme although it's not a dealbreaker.
Our "oops baby" boy name was Wyatt, but we weren't planning on having kids 6 years ago so I gave it to the dog. It suits him so well, and C is totally not a Wyatt so it all worked out!
