I'm sorry sss13. It's rough when someone with whom you had a not so great experience with in the past (to say the least) is involved again in your medical care. *hugs*
scm1011, thanks, it was just the last thing I expected, so I was surprised, I'm thinking of mentioning it to my doctor, in the event that he's around when I go into labor, because I really don't want him in the room with me.
3. Questions for the group? Any STMs administered oxytocin for atonic uterus during or just after delivery? I wasn’t given any last time and wound up with retained product and PP hemorrhage three weeks later. The midwife mentioned this would be the best course of action. Seems as though many places do it as a matter of course but not my hospital. Just wondering about any experiences with the continuing contractions.
I'm lurking and saw this.
We give pitocin after every single delivery, whether induced or spontaneous, vaginal or c-section, pain medication free or no. Every delivery. Because we don't want hemorrhages, or if someone does hemorrhage, we're trying to reduce that as much as possible. It's a larger dose than for an induction/augmentation, so maintains a constant contraction of the uterus rather than a rhythmic one. You'll feel crampy, but not intense contraction pain.
I did have an atonic uterus after my second delivery last month, and had a PP hemorrhage immediately after delivery (900 ml immediately after, another 300 in the next 2 hours, and some unknown amount less than 500 ml over the next 12 hours). I was given a full bag of pitocin immediately after delivery (about 30 units), plus methergine and hemabate (both IM injections) to stop the bleeding. I continued to be on a pitocin drip for the next several hours. I was also given methergine orally twice the next day and an IV iron infusion for anemia. Because my blood count didnt actually drop too much, my bleeding slowed drastically, and I was physically feeling fine and my vitals looked really good, I was still able to go home after 24 hours, only 1 night in the hospital. Per my request. I could have stayed another night if I wanted to.
Today was my PP checkup, and we discussed the hemorrhage. We're thinking that my uterus may have been a little too distended (I was on the higher end for amniotic fluid volume, and very large toward the end, with a long baby). Anyone can have a PPH, even with no risk factors. Once having had a PPH, you're higher risk for having another and the L&D nurses need to know that in your history.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? We found out last week that we are having another little boy! I am very excited for DS to have a baby bro and BFF haha. Now we just need to figure out a name. We have it narrowed down to 4 and I have no idea how we'll ever pick one!
3. Questions for the group? None this week!
4. Anything tech-related you are planning on getting/using for baby? Special apps? Monitors? Etc? We have a video monitor in DS1s room, we will probably try to link a second one from the nursery to it. Well, I think H thinks we won't need one but I'm sure I can convince him. Ha!
Thank you all for these lists! I need to really read and see what else I'm missing.
Here's what I've got still: Install smoke detector in room Install carseats Clean car/auto maintenance/renew registration Buy end table Diaper bag/car kit Breast pump - confirmed with insurance, just need to order Spreadsheet - update and print Insurance card - C stole mine out of my wallet and I can't find it Lactation cookies - make and freeze Pack bag, snacks Clean bathtub Black out shades - I'm at a total loss here. Any suggestions for something non permanent? I dont want hanging drapes on a rod, and what I have in C's room is no longer available (stick on pleated shades)

1. How far along are you this week? 19+2
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I had the follow up to my early anatomy scan on Thursday. All looked good and bonus, we have a couple great pictures of him with his hand up and it looks like he's waving - you can see all 4 fingers plus his thumb! I bought a couple of wall decor items for the nursery this weekend after a second stop at the same, but different location, store. When I was looking the first place, I had to redirect myself because I was almost in tears because of how overwhelmed I felt. I'm not really an outwardly emotional person, so it totally caught me by surprise. But, it was also the first time I think it's really settling in that he'll very likely be coming home and I ultimately gave up on the idea of it ever happening a few years ago. Also, in the last several days, I'm pretty sure I've been feeling him moving around which is weird, but super cool!
3. Questions for the group? What is your go-to place for casual/business casual maternity clothes?
4. Anything tech-related you are planning on getting/using for baby? Special apps? Monitors? Etc? We'll get a video monitor of some sort although I have no idea which one. Not sure about apps or anything like that. I'm not super diligent about documenting things, so not sure I would actually use them. But, knowing there's a lot of things I'll have to do more regularly, I may have to start.
hamster, I have cordless blackout shades in the kids' rooms from JC Penney. They were pretty inexpensive, and have been good in DD's room. We have the non-blackout version in our room + guest room. We need outside mount because of our windows, which seemed to really limit options.

1. 34 weeks, 3 days!
2. As of this morning, cervix is soft, extremely thin (well..it actually measured at like 3 mm last week, so I feel like it's grown), but still no dilation! I feel like I won the lottery.
I'm a little worried that my mom has to leave in a few days. My dad needs a last minute surgery next week. So we're all now guessing that I'll go into labor next week when we won't have anyone around to help, set up baby stuff or watch the dog. Once again, any plan we had figured out has gone out the window. Oh well.
3. Would it be inappropriate to ask my doula if she'd be willing to let my dog out while I'm in labor? She's met the dog, is very comfortable with him, and we live less than a mile from the hospital. I don't know if that's a totally legit request, or just crazy. I'm honestly not sure how much I'll want her around while I'm in labor -- I hired her when I was worried about the nursing staff, but after my hospital stay, I'm not worried about that anymore. Plus, I'm not even sure if I'll want anyone near me other than DH during labor/birth.
4. I was going to get a monitor, but now I'm not sure. Our place is so tiny that I'm not sure a monitor is worth the money.
hamster, LOL. Everything. I'm officially over worrying about it all anymore and making endless lists was just stressing me out. Amazon Prime will just get a lot of money from me once she's born. She's got a bassinet, a carseat, and we'll get diaper supplies at some point. Breast pump parts and bottles (if needed immediately) can be picked up by a friend if I don't get those before I go into labor. It probably helps that our house is too small for a dedicated nursery, so nothing to do there!
Susie, I've been having trouble with standing for showers/dizziness, but I'm of no help. My issues just stem from lack of activity from the modified bedrest. It's so frustrating to go through pregnancy and feel like general health/fitness is just declining so visabily. I feel old.
chocolatepie, I've got quite a few fibroids, one or two of which are in the 6-9 cm range. So far, no complications from them and they just check on them at every ultrasound. They're all located in areas that don't interfere with the placenta (or something like that). My OB has never seemed particularly worried about them.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I finished a half marathon Saturday! I walked most of it, but I kept up my training through first tri and did the race so I'm proud of that!
3. Questions for the group? Nope
4. Anything tech-related you are planning on getting/using for baby? Special apps? Monitors? Etc?
We have a baby monitor we use for our son still, that is video and connects through an app on our phone. We love it and I'm not ready to take my "eyes" off the 3 yo room yet so well just buy another camera for the new baby.

Thanks pooh8402. DD delivered quickly (two pushes) and the placenta came out quickly too based on what I recall so the midwife thinks that is why I was a bit atonic. They never could find placenta on the ultrasounds I received when I was having the PPH issues three weeks later so they think I just retained too much lining.
G22- congrats on the race! This just reminded me that I had a dream a few days ago that I was running a 10K that was recently in my town, while pregnant, and I was ahead of everyone else, but there were only like 10 other people in the race. Never mind I haven’t ran in MONTHS because of all this IVF business and I am slow as heck haha.
hamster I refuse to acknowledge I’m in the third trimester. As far as I’m concerned I’m in the 2nd and have infinite time left. I am starting to freak out that we are having a third kid. Once next week hits and I’m officially in the 30s of weeks maybe I’ll come to terms.
I had my gestational diabetes test on Friday and I haven’t gotten the results back. I’m annoyed.
My mom is driving me insane. We have a rocky relationship and she is trying to plan her trip here after the baby is born. I cannot think about it.
OMG MY MOM 😍 Dh will be traveling Sun-Wed every week through October after his 2 week leave is up. My mom is going to take the big kids Sunday afternoon and bring them home fed & put them to bed on Mondays for 2 MONTHS!!!!
Anyone else not eligible for FMLA? I juuuuust started a job and I am not sure how this will all work out.
I work for a firm that is too small for FMLA to apply. For my first maternity leave I was an employee, and I negotiated 8 weeks paid leave, followed by 4 weeks working from home/flex schedule, with full return at 12 weeks. However, since I was paid, my billing targets were not prorated for my time out (ouch, but I did it -- I hit my yearly target).
Since then, my state has passed paid family leave but I am not eligible because I'm now a shareholder in the firm and am self employed. I'm basically taking the same leave as last time with the same terms.

1. How far along are you this week? 36 weeks
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? Found out today baby is breech. I cried for a little while then laid upside down for 20 mins with an ice pack on my stomach lol. This baby moves sooooo much I'm still holding out hope she can flip.
3. Questions for the group? If you're a mom of more than 1, I'll take your breech baby turned head down success stories.
4. Anything tech-related you are planning on getting/using for baby? Special apps? Monitors? Etc? We both like the Owlet thing but not sure if we'll pull the trigger on it. I still kind of want a monitor that isn't an app on my phone.

I do have a couple of friends who had breech babies flip towards the very end oliviapope. It is definitely possible. I’ll cross all my fingers for you and hope your baby decides to get it right.

I totally understand and it's my second. I'm finally willing to trade a newborn in order to not be pregnant though.
2. I survived this past weekend with a visit from MIL. We were out and about a lot which was tiring but DH planned dinner out or take out every night she was here so I didn’t have to cook.
3. If you keep track of feedings do you use an app - I used an itzbeen timer for DS1 and an app for DS2 (can’t remember which one now). Anyone recommend one?
4. We have video monitors from DS2 that still work. I think I ordered a hatch sound machine but I have yet to open all my amazon packages that I got last week from using my completion code.
To do: Wash baby clothes and carriers. Install car seat Wash sheets, set up co sleeper, swing, and pack n play Make hospital bag list and start gathering stuff for it Arrange cord blood banking
Thought of a question! Since I’ve never been in a hospital after birth before I’m not really sure what to wear. Comfy fold over waistband shorts and a T-shirt with a robe or cardigan should be fine right? The shorts & shirt are black and from ON and have been used as comfy maternity pjs so NBD if blood gets on them.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week?
Anyone ever heard of coughing as a pregnancy symprom/problem? I have had horrible horrible dry coughing or months now and it was the same with DS. Was gone the day after his birth so I guess I can count on it to stay around this time too. It’s not all the time and comes in random huge fits a couple of times each day so I don’t think cough medicine would help. Or I would have to take it regularly throughout the day to maybe prevent the 4-5 coughing fits. I’ve been thinking it’s reflux related but taking antacids doesn’t help once the coughing have started and again the coughing fits are so random I would have to pop the pills all the time to prevent. Whenever I get a coughing fit it really doesn’t stop until I gag or throw up. It’s really stressful especially whenever I’m out or around people but even when I can go hide in a bathroom it’s exhausting coughing so much I throw up. (It’s not big vomits, more like a small spit up almost, still not something you want to do around people). Also my bladder control while pregnant is not great, I have to consciously focus on it and I can really only focus on controlling one end of my body at a time so it’s like either pee my pants or puke right out. I rather use depends than vomit all over myself. Ugh, I guess I just have to get used to it.
3. Questions for the group?
4. Anything tech-related you are planning on getting/using for baby? Special apps? Monitors? Etc?
Nope. We didn’t even get a monitor until DS was like 10 months old and then we got a very simple one that connects to my phone and we only used it when DS napped outside. I guess I’ll use it for outdoor naps again but inside I don’t need it.
1. How far along are you this week? I'll be 29w tomorrow, yikes!
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I need to get motivated to get stuff ready for this baby! Mostly, I need to get some work done on clearing out our spare bedroom (so we can move AJ in there and get what is now his room ready for baby sister). I'm off this Friday afternoon so I'm hoping to get some work done then. After a nap, because duh
3. Questions for the group? Nope!
4. Anything tech-related you are planning on getting/using for baby? Special apps? Monitors? Etc? We need to get a new video monitor and white noise machine. Based on recs from MMM I'm going for the Hatch noise machine and I forget what kind of video monitor but it's pretty basic-no WiFi etc. We'll use an app to track feedings for a bit but I haven't thought about which one...we had a great one when AJ was a newborn but I forget the name. It was definitely helpful while I was on maternity leave but after I went back to work we phased out of using it.
zarapipe , that's what I keep telling myself too...maybe once I hit 30 weeks next week I'll get a little more motivated? Lord I hope so.
It took me until 34 weeks this time to start doing ANYTHING, and thats only because a good friend who was due 2 weeks ahead of me had her baby at 36 weeks!
I pretty much had everything ready to go by the time I hit 3rd tri with DS. Poor second child, ha.

Comfy fold over waistband shorts and a T-shirt with a robe or cardigan should be fine right? Last time I wore a comfy fold over waist skirt (black in case of blood), which gave better access than shorts when they woke me up at 6am to check my stitches (not that I'm bitter). I would do that again. Then nursing tank and robe for if cold.

Last time I wore H's shirts, mesh underwear and a robe. For 6 days. And I left my room a lot. Pants are for chumps, lol. (My robe does cover my ass) The goal is to wear whatever is most comfortable.
I plan on doing the same again, though I did toss in some leggings for shits and giggles.

I wish I knew what to expect in a hospital/birthing center over here. If all goes well, you go home within 2-3 hours after birth. But like...do they let you shower? Change? I need to go post in the mom group I’m in and ask for people to share their experience. Everything I know about after is North America focused so I have no clue what to expect. Do they have supplies I can steal like I see everyone suggest?
