I'm using Havenly for our master bedroom, including paint help. I've loved working with this designer so far, and we're getting down to the final concept phase. I love that she incorporated many pieces we already have (The rug, bed, dressers, etc.) For paint, she has a navy accent wall. I'm a bit unsure of an accent wall. I've always wanted a Navy room, but I think based on the light the room gets, an all navy room would be too dark. The blue she has here is a bit too teal for me, but I think if it's more navy it would work. Are accent walls still a thing? (it doesn't help that we're going to paint of a beige room with a poop brown accent wall, so that may be screwing my view) I feel like we were all about accent walls 10 years ago, but not sure if they are timeless.
You know the nice thing about accent walls? Paint is cheap and easy. If you decide you're sick of it, you just need a brush, a roller, and a quart of paint.

Regardless of what any magazine says, I'm going to say there's always a time and place for an accent wall. The thing is, sometimes a certain color on all the walls is too much, but adding it to only one wall with white or another neutral on the others is just enough. Like the others said, they're usually pretty inexpensive and easy to change.
Yes to the time and place. But also, I think an all navy room, even one that doesn’t get a lot of light, could be spectacular. I’m not biased or anything by the fact that I have a navy guest room.

I like it for the wall behind the bed.
Would you consider doing a stenciled pattern on the navy? That could look super pretty, I think. Or, if you're worried the navy is too dark, you could do a light color with the design in navy?
Thanks all- I think I'm going to go for it once I find the right shade. I dont think I'll do wallpaper/stencil because it will be too busy for the feel I want.
Ironically, in my daughter's nursery, I did an accent wallpaper wall and I'm OBSESSED with it to the point where I'm just going to recreate it in the new house we're moving into
I feel like accent walls go wrong when the wrong wall is chosen to accent, but when you get it right, the effect can be amazing.
We have a couple of accent walls that I love...my living room wall makes me ridiculously happy on a daily basis. We also have a room with really saturated color on all walls that is pretty fabulous, but that room definitely needs good lighting.
I painted an accent wall in our master bedroom and I don't love it. I love the color, but I feel like it would work better if it was the entire room, not just the one wall. I think it is because the other walls are either windows and/or doors, or a wall of closets, so the isnt enough wall to make another color look like an intentional contrast.

I'm not a fan of accent walls. AT ALL. To me, it makes a room look unfinished, and the wall look like an afterthought. Paint the whole room, be bold, and go dark. I'm not a fan of white walls either.
Most of the time, I'm not a fan of accent walls. Either people just don't know how to do them and they feel disjointed, or they feel very 90's. I've rarely seen them done right. The ones that I can get behind have some sort of quirky wall paper or print against very minimalist décor.
I don’t have any in my house, but it’s your house! Try it out. It’s a super easy fix if you don’t like it. (Also, if you end up loving the color, you may even decide to paint the whole room!
I think super dark paint in rooms can be stunning. It’s a matter of balancing the walls with lighter things in the rest of the room.
For a great dark blue, check out Sherwin Williams Charcoal Blue. We have it in our living room and in our upstairs (open) hallway. It’s a fantastic color that has some magenta in it that sometimes makes it read a tiny bit purple. We get so many compliments on it and it’s by far my favorite color I’ve ever painted a room.

Our bedroom is charcoal blue! It’s an amazing color. I was so afraid it would be too dark but it’s not, it really looks awesome

Totally agree that choosing the right wall is key! Some rooms just don't have an appropriate wall to be accented. I've never liked accent walls but I was dying to do something in my family room to jazz it up. I painted a buffalo check accent wall on the same wall as fireplace and it looks amazing.
