OK, next question: Our master bedroom and master bath both have windows where the neighbors behind us/next to us can probably see in our windows, which I don't love. OUr bathroom has 2 windows, our bedroom has one (and it's a BIG window, so it's low enough for them to see everything) My husbans suggestion was just to keep the blinds closed all the time but I'm like "Nope, I bought this house because I like all the windows"...suggestions to help with privacy?
I thought about some kind of privacy film like this - has anyone tried it? My husband is hesitant thinking it will turn out like a bad window tint job

We've done that with one glass door. The hard thing with it is not having any bubbles in it (air trapped). It worked for us but there are some bubbles. As it's a side door, we don't care that much. What we do in the UK is use sheers for privacy as that does allow light in. We just put it on a wire going across the window.

We just bought a Rabbitgoo brand static cling window film from Amazon. We just moved into a new renovation and because it was a duplex before, our master closet has a picture window in it. It's right next to the neighbors - I got in bed the first night and had left the sliding closet door opened and realized i could see right into the neighbor's kitchen in their upper duplex unit! You spray water on the window and then it just static seals to the window. It looks really nice, but it would be really easy to peel off vs some of the reviews for them had serious adhesive.
I have Gila window film on the bottom half of our bathroom window. It's been on for a while and has worked out pretty well. We did a gut renovation of the entire bathroom and didn't change it. Let me see if I can find a pic.
Ok, all the pics I can find kind of suck, but I can show you a couple. The reno was in May 2018, and the film was not new then, so that may help with an ideal of its longevity? No plans to change it.
Our living room windows have film like that. The only thing anyone can see from the outside during the day (with no lights on) is our TV. You can clearly see what we are watching from across the street, but we can see their TV too. lol
We put up privacy film that obscures view, but still allows the light on our bathroom window, because we have a pretty big window in our shower, and it was just a regular window. So weird....we have never lived anywhere that didn't have privacy windows in a shower window.
I think if the window wasn't actually in my shower I might have gotten the regular tinted film and maybe the bottom up/top down type of blind so that I could block just the lower part when needed, and still be able to see outdoors.

I have the frosted-looking privacy film on our bathroom windows. I think it looks fine but they are also smaller windows. Itβs stuck fine without yellowing or anything for 10 years now. If you do have a bubble you can poke it with a pin to get the air out and still smooth it down. Worth a try! IDR the brand, whatever Home Depot sold. π
It works really well. It definitely had a lot of tiny air bubbles in it at first. I was going to go back and use a squeegee a few weeks later to get them out, but when I looked, they were gone! I guess they worked their way out.
We seem to be on the same hunt here. I need to tint my house windows because I feel very uncomfortable with everyone seeing everything I do in my house due to the windows. The clarity of the inside of my house is insane at night with the lights on. I want to tint only for privacy, heat is not a concern as I live in New Jersey and it snows here in the winter. I want maximum privacy, in the daytime and nighttime, but I want to be able to see everything clearly from the inside of my house. Some privacy window films seem to meet my needs. So keep you posted on the result.
Have you stood outside and checked? I've noticed that during the day its really hard to see inside unless you are close. Nighttime when the lights are on is a totally different story!

We put temporary privacy film on the lower half of our bathroom windows (similar to Susie). We are going to order PVC interior shutters for the windows with a halfway split so we can close the lower half and leave the upper half open. We are in a two storey home and have an amazing view of a river and farm from the windows, so I donβt even really want to be bothered to close them at night. People can see our heads from the street but that would be it.

We bought film for our bathroom window but only because it was facing our neighbor's bathroom window directly. For our living room windows we got Hunter Douglas up-down shutters which I love. They have two controls so you can just cover the lower part of the window with them or the upper part or the whole thing.
We converted an office into a bathroom and didn't adjust the window, so it's large and sits very low. It's on the second floor, and our house sits way back from the road - behind an acre of trees - but i was still worried about someone seeing me getting out of the shower and whatnot.
Privacy film would work, but I found bottoms-up blinds I really like, and we went with those.
They'll definitely cost you more, but I think they'd be visually appealing in a bedroom with the large window you describe.
