Um, I may get called out as totally disgusting but I’m not sure I’ve ever cleaned behind my ears. Doesn’t that area get cleaned when you shampoo?
I do pay attention to my ears if I’ve been wearing the same studs for multiple days and the earrings and my ear lobes need cleaning.
I suggest the next time you’re in the shower after you’ve washed your hair, take a fingernail and scratch behind you ear. That should answer your question.
I paid attention when I showered and when I wash my face, I suds up my neck and go behind my ears. I never really think about what I’m doing.

My parents never used soap growing up, so us girls didn't use it - for a long time. I don't remember learning, but I remember all three of us girls showering together when we were really little (like 6, 4, 2) and my mom handing us shampoo and conditioner, so she must have given us direction. I found out a few years ago that my dad just uses shampoo on his head and body and always has and my mine doesn't use soap... just shampoo and conditioner. In high school I started using body wash and so did my sisters. Now I only use body wash/soap on my whole body like every three days - my skin has psoriasis and breaks out if I soap too often. TMI - I do clean my parts each shower - pits, boobs, nethers.
My order is: Shampoo - soap/body wash while shampoo is on my hair Rinse Conditioner and shave armpits/bikini while conditioner in hair Rinse
I wash hair last. I don't use so much product of either shampoo or conditioner that I need to scrub it off my body after I've rinsed it out of my hair.
Anyways, I was taught to clean my body (using wash cloth!), wash hair (making sure scrubbed & rinsed properly), etc. But none of that is shower-specific.

I don’t think my mom taught me much of anything tbh. I’m pretty sure I took baths at home until I left home but took showers after tennis practice at the facility and at camps or wherever else I went. I cut my hair shoulder length when I was 9 and so that is when I really started to take care of it myself. My DD is 8 and I still wash her hair because it is really long and I’m not sure how well she would rinse it. She went to overnight camp for the first time last year and so I did sort of talk her through taking care of her own hair over there, like don’t use a cup of shampoo or conditioner when you wash your hair, try to rinse it out well etc. Her hair was kind of weird after 3 weeks at camp and then 10 days with her dad at the beach in Corsica (including lice... ) but that may have partially been due to the fact that she was in the pool and ocean a lot. She still takes a bath at home on the weekend and during the week she takes a shower in my shower because it is big and she plays in there for quite a while and then I just wash her hair at the end.
