I have been so depressed this week and a huge part of this is related to these goddamned abortion bills. It is all I can do not to break down thinking about them.

I just want to throw up and scream. I am more than a fetus. I am an autonomous human being and I ought to get to make decisions about my own goddamn body. Nothing trumps my right to that, and my right to make that decision privately.
I really truly think that this is something that men can never fully understand, the huge violation that it is to have the prospect of being forced to carry a pregnancy. There is no equivalent for them. It is an insult to my humanity -- my very right to be, and make my own decisions -- that this law even passed, and it makes me sick.
I honestly think at this point that the only thing that will bring any semblance of sanity back about women's right to choose is to have Roe be overturned, and then to have pretty, young white women across the country start dying from unviable pregnancies and make headlines. The right is never going to stop until it gets what it wants and then realizes how terrible it is -- and for that, women are going to have to die. But not just any woman, the "right" kind of woman that they care about and can be considered a perfect victim.
And then their memories will fade and we'll have to do it all again in another 50 years.
The punishment for a woman who gets an abortion or the doctor who provides is will be harsher than for the rapist. We are being made more vulnerable. That’s what these men in power want and every woman who cheers these laws is complicit in their own degradation.
But don't worry Susan, Kavanaugh will do the right thing and respect precedent.
Just like how he respected precedent when he voted the other day to overturn a 41-year old precedent based on the implied/inherent guarantees in the Constitution about state sovereignity.
So for those of you keeping track at home, conservatives say it is totally okay to derive a right even though not specifically stated in the Constitution in this case, but the liberals were totally wrong to find an implied right to privacy and bodily control in Roe.
Missouri is next, so reach out to your state reps if you live there.
Missouri is today.
My senator Nasheed is on the right side of this. My rep - Butz(D) is really a Republican but ran as a D because you can't get elected in the city with an R behind your name. He voted for it in the House and I am still fuming.
I have so much anger. This is personal. I have no senator or voting rep. I don’t have anyone to call. I can send money, and I do, but so what?
I keep saying this, but really: when are we taking to the streets? That’s increasingly our only option.
I can take to the streets but I'm in good ol' liberal NYC where we can be conveniently ignored because we're not real Americans. I don't want to put an unfair burden on people in these states to go out into the streets too but...it kinda needs to happen. And sane men need to be out there with us.
I wonder what influence all this shit will have on next year's college applications. Every college counselor in the country should have a list of current laws by state that they give out to girls when they are deciding where to apply.

We had several folks who were Dems but caucused with Republicans where I live. There was a grassroots effort to primary them in the last election that was very successful. If you ever wanted to think about it you can find what folks were doing to promote the folks running as against the incumbents.
Tweet from Robert Costa: An unusual group on Air Force Two today: Vice President, Senate Majority Leader, and Chief Justice all on the plane. Rare to have that trio together, particularly on a flight.

I was just coming to post this. WFT is this? Is this normal? What is Roberts doing with them? This scares me.

I'm not going to write what I'm thinking but I think you may all know what I would love to have happen with this.

Time for a deep talk about falling on your swords and resigning for the good of the country. Roberts should wait until Nov. 2020, though.

Wow - it's actually a huge group of them traveling according to the link above. And Lugar is the one who lost the primary to a tea party conservative and then didn't a Dem win that general?
Those joining Pence are: Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Democratic Sen. Patrick Leah of Vermont; Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine; Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee; Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson of Georgia; Republican Sen. Sam Nunn of Georgia. Indiana delegation members aboard the plane are Republican Sens. Todd Young and Mike Braun and Republican congressman Greg Pence, who is also the vice president's brother.
I guess, it's not that odd to travel together to a funeral of a past guy, but yes, it does make me nervous if they start discussing coordination between white house, senate/house, and SCOTUS on issues like abortion. Would Roberts openly do that with so many people around? I would hope not - especially with press around, right?
