Did anyone else's kids start waking up much earlier than usual as they got older? My son will be 3 in August. Since he was about 6 months old he has slept from 8pm-8am, maybe 7:30 or so, but usually until almost 8am. For the past month or so, he's consistently been waking up at 7 or earlier. Nothing has changed with our routine or his bedtime. He doesn't seem extra tired or anything by bedtime. Is he just starting to need less sleep as he gets older? He still does nap about an hour a day, never more than 2 hours (during the week at daycare I think they nap around 12:30, at home on weekends it's more like 1:30). I realize we're pretty lucky and some kids get up much earlier, and I'll adjust to this new schedule, but I'm just curious. I also wonder if I should be putting him to bed earlier now that he's waking up earlier.

My kid is the same age, but I think this is normal. I feel you. We have been spoiled (since he was 4 months--life was hell before that) with 12+ hours of sleep at night plus naps ranging from 2-4 hours. As he nears 3 he definitely needs less sleep and it's very sad. LOL
On the weekends we used to get to sleep in until 8 or 9. Lately it's been 7 most days. :::sob:::

Nope. DS (3 last month), started giving up naps at 22 months and officially gave them up (unless sick) when we PT at the end of December. So he's been doing the opposite. Starting to wake up between 6:30/7am and sometimes 7:30am when it used to be 6/6:30am. The later wake-ups just started in the last monthish.
My DS has always gone to bed on the early side (6:30/6:45pm until 1.5/2 years old). We start bedtime routine at 7pm now.

This is the saddest thing I have ever heard. My parents love to remind me that I stopped napping at 2. I want to literally cry thinking about S giving up naps right now. (to be fair, he would cry thinking about skipping his nap, too, lol.)

I wasn't too happy about it either especially considering he didn't nap well until 8/9 months. So there's that. The bright spot is he STTN starting at 2.5 months.
