Has anyone been keeping up with the Wayfair walkout? Apparently over 500 employees signed a petition after learning that Wayfair is profiting off of selling beds to the camps where the children are being held at our borders. The CEO responded back basically saying thanks for your concern, but no thanks, we will keep selling beds. Because of that response employees will be walking out tomorrow. The hashtag is starting to gain some traction on Twitter.
We recently bought a house and I had quite the list from Wayfair of things I wanted to purchase. We did buy an area rug back in April, but luckily hadn't pulled the trigger on anything else. Now it's back to the drawing board because I refuse to shop there and I hope others will do the same.
Good on those employees for standing up for what is right!

At first I read this and I thought "Great Wayfair is doing something good to help the horrid situation there". Then I re-read and saw that they're profiting from this AND the CEO's response is disgusting.
I have a bunch of stuff in my shopping cart on there that I will be promptly deleting.
Thanks to everyone who has made us aware of this. We just deleted all of our stories promoting this week’s sale. We also communicated through our contact (our manufacturer) that we don’t feel right sending business their way until they hopefully rectify this. Thankfully our furniture is also available on Amazon and Overstock, which gives everyone some alternatives - but we are hoping Wayfair will somehow make it right ❤️
At least they could sell them to the government at cost (or for a loss)??
I suppose this does beg the question... where are they supposed to buy these things?
But to the point of the letter sent by Wayfair's employees, it sounds like they are selling beds not to the government, but to one of the private companies running the camps. I still feel like I would have a problem with them supplying beds to the government because I am vehemently opposed to the situation at the border, but that would be different than them making a profit selling stuff to a for-profit prison corporation.
eta: Nope, I'm wrong. They are selling beds to BCFS, a "non-profit government contractor managing camps for migrants."

wow that is great! I'm honestly a little surprised they responded to it. More than many IG influencers would do!

Isabel i had the same questions, but thanks for going through it and giving me the answer. No more wayfair for me.
It’s not about the fact they sold the beds to the contractor, it’s about the fact they’re profiting 80k off them. The employees are asking the company to donate the money to orgs helping the children.

I didn’t see that the employees asked them to donate the profits. I agree that this would be much more palatable if they weren’t making a tidy profit on it. The response from the CEO is just gross.

They are barred from accepting donations by federal law.
Even if they weren’t, the issue really isn’t lack of resources, it’s allocation of resources. If they wanted to give detainee children access to toothbrushes and soap they absolutely could.
From CNN "They are also asking the company to donate all profits made from the sale of the furniture to RAICES, a nonprofit that reunites families at the border. That amount totals $86,000, according to the unverified Twitter account that broadcast news about the walkout on Tuesday."
It's just annoying all the Trumpers on twitter are saying the liberal Wayfair employees want to deny the kids beds....NO that's not what they're saying.
Also, on a funny note, plenty of trumpers saying that if the 500 employees walk out, they'd like to take their well paying job. LOL I'd bet the people saying that don't know how to code, or do the other skilled jobs at Wayfair.

Even if these workers aren't effective at pushing the company to do something, it certainly has given me hope. Average people going about their day actually organized to do something. Not just a handful of them, either. Over 500 of them banded together on something that no one would have even blinked an eye at.
Why are they even contracting with Wayfair? Wayfair is a middleman. Contract with the manufacturer directly for better pricing and quantity guarantees.
Also, given how this shitstain of an administration works, I wouldn't be surprised if the CEO donated big bucks to the GOP/Drumpf and this is how he is being repaid for his donations.

I haven't looked at this kind of data before, but it looks like he's given to a bunch of Democratic candidates but there's also almost $44k in the last year to the national Republican and state Republican parties.
