If so, what did you think? Is it worth an out of town trip? Is there a lot of stuff to do? Most of our big trips have been every other year at Disney. Next year is an off year. we ant to do something/ go somewhere, but I want to be pretty budget conscious, so I was thinking ewe could drive to VA and do BG and Water Country. My ideal is to find a good deal on a cruise or AI, but I think that will likely be more than I want to spend.
Yes- I love BG. It's been years since we did Water Country but that was also fun. I definitely prefer it to Kings Dominion or Six Flags. Lots of rides, good food, and the country aspect is really fun!
If you're into colonial stuff, Colonial Williamsburg is also really fun for the kids.

We've been to BG several times. My parents live in VA on the coast and we always make it a point to do BG for a day. It's a lot of fun and my kids really enjoy it. For lunch I recommend the smokehouse. Unfortunately, they don't have any character meals or lunch shows. I wish they did because it gets HOT. We haven't done the water park, but make sure you bring spare clothes for BG. There are two splash pad areas (one in kiddie land and one on the other side of the park). BG has a photopass thing like Disney. If you are doing the big rides, I highly suggest getting the photopass for the day. It's well worth it if you like the ride photos. It also works for the animal encounters.
Like PP said, Colonial Williamsburg is fun. We've done that one summer. When we go visit my parents we usually just beach hop for several days and pack lunches/snacks. Can't get any cheaper than that and the kids have a blast!
Yes! They are so much fun. I love the roller coasters. I agree that Williamsburg is fun, but we went when it was 95, and that made it considerably less fun. I would definitely try to hit a cooler or even rainy day.
We are local, so yes. I think it’s worth it, though I think the Tampa one is better. We bring our young kids but are limited on what we can ride. It’s not as much a “bang for your buck” as WDW. I’m a coaster person but there are some there I just won’t ride. And their version of the tea cups sucks. The VR ride in Ireland is a good chance to get into A/C but be warned that it is no competitor to anything Disney has.
The best part of the experience is the wine tastings - a total bargain compared to Epcot. Food is decent, we usually try to eat in Germany where there is an indoor show.
It’s a beautiful park. Would recommend trying for the lower crowd season if you can - not between Memorial Day and Labor Day. BG Williamsburg is not open year-round.
Carnival has a cruise out of Norfolk (just over an hour away depending on traffic) so you could do both. Not to be an enabler or anything. There is also a Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg.

We go every year. BG is good for little kid rides and then older kids but not very much for the in between. We still like the park, but I find Hershey much better for kids. There are a ton of rides (even fun roller coasters) that my under 48 inch kids can ride (some even my 39 inch kid can ride, and roller coasters I find enjoyable too!).
IF you are an adult I Think the roller coasters are awesome, but I don't get to ride on them with the kids. I also like Hershey better because the waterpark is on site so you don't need to pay separately and I think its cleaner than the park at BG. BUT I have no idea where you are and if Hershey is more convenient or less
Oh if you go to BG or Hershey make sure to get the refillable drink. Its $15 or something and you get free refills every 10 minutes or so with any non alcoholic beverage. IT is worth it just for ice cold water all day long IMO but you also get slushies
I like it, I'm originally from Virginia and we did a trip down there a few years ago. We did July 4th at Williamsburg (fireworks were great!), spent time at BG, and also time at Virginia Beach and it was a nice trip.
