icedcoffee my son decided he suddenly wanted to potty train the very day I returned home from the hospital after a c-section, so I feel you! It actually ended up being surprisingly easy (he peed on cheerios as a target and loooooooved it), and a bribe of a Duplo set got him over his fear of poop training a day later. Within three days, it was like he’d been doing it forever. Hope it goes the same way for you!
I know our kids are roughly the same age. My 4 and 2 year olds both love the IKEA play tent. My 2yo also likes the VTech touch and learn activity desk and his toy golf set.
Thanks! the toy golf set it a great idea! It funny how our kids are almost exactly the same ages
Is your daughter starting kindergarten this year?
She is! She starts the day before her 5th birthday.
cricketwife , that is a great area for beach AND activities! I love it there
Awesome! That’s so encouraging to hear! We’ve never done a beach vacation so it was hard to pick without knowing the places!
There are tons of other beaches in the area too. Downtown Wilmington is really cute and fun and just down the road. You will enjoy it! Someday I would like to go back!
My random is that my kids started school back today!! (year-round) 5th and 1st grades. I'm about to leave work early so that I can get them from the bus stop (a today-only kind of thing). Can't wait to hear how about their first day back!
I took DD to the doctor today for her 6 week check up. She has an umbilical hernia, so If it doesn’t fix itself, she will need to have it surgically fixed later. Does anyone have any experience with that?
She also got a prescription for heartburn medication to see if they helps her crying. Fingers crossed! It sucks seeing her so miserable.

DD2 had this and still has a little one when she coughs at 2 yrs old. My dr wasn’t concerned at all even though it looked huge to me. He said almost all of them resolve by either 1 year old or 3 (I can’t remember which sorry!).

My DD had that and it went away by around maybe 6-8 months old. I don’t remember exactly when but it wasn’t any later than that.
MH, DD and I were in stop and go traffic yesterday when an armored truck smacked into our rear bumper. We’re all ok but the bumper and trunk are damaged.
So now DD’s car seat needs to be replaced, correct?
MH called our insurance company this morning and they said they’ll get back to him on whether New Jersey requires the seat be replaced/if they can reimburse us for a seat or not. Even if not legally required, we will replace it.
The truck driver would not get out of the car (his partner in the passenger seat got out to ask if we were ok and then he would not engage with us further) and refused to provide us or the NJ State Trooper who arrived with their insurance info. She filed a police report and MH took photos of the truck, license plate and driver.
We’ll buy a new seat either way. If we don’t get reimbursed then oh well. Just wondering if we should wait for the insurance company to get back to us before we purchase it, or if we should buy the new one ASAP and then submit the receipt. We have my car and seat in the meantime so it’s not an urgent matter.
mbcdefg I am glad you are all ok! It’s really odd to me the driver/passenger in the other vehicle.
I haven’t been in an accident myself with a car seat, but I know where I am (Canada not NJ) the insurance companies have to have a check sent out within 24 hours to replace the car seat. I would be tempted to buy a new one and submit a receipt. Hopefully someone else has had experience and give more insight.

Sorry that happened and glad you guys are okay. I’m also in NJ and a similar thing happened to me a few years ago, but without my child in the seat. My insurance company reimbursed me for a new seat. They didn’t need anything other than the receipt of the new seat I purchased. I was surprised they didn’t need any kind of proof that I was buying the same seat I already had- and our seat was pricey at the time. I also needed the seat immediately because I had to pick up my DD from school later that day.

Same, when I ran my own car into my garage. I actually got pricier versions of their existing seats.

I’m also glad everyone is ok. Not I NJ but I have had two cases of being rear-ended and needing to replace car seats. The first was super easy. I just bought a new seat (one kid back then) and sent the receipt. And it was a $$$ Foonf. They didn’t ask any questions.
Second tine, they told me it was too minor and the seats didn’t need to be replaced. I told them that per the manufacturer they did. I had to have the manufacturer provide a letter stating the needed to be replaced. It wasn’t hard to get the letter, and the insurance then replaced the seats. In that case, they ordered the replacements, so I was very specific with the person on the phone to get my exact seat, same co,or and everything. They had the seat itself shipped to me. All this to say that I don’t think the state of NJ gets to decide if you get new seats. I’d definitely check to see what your manufactuer’s guidelines are. I wouldn’t rush to buy new until you know how the insurance company wants to proceed, since you have another usable seat. And honestly, how they handle it may impact what you choose to replace with..exact same, slight upgrade, sale version to pocket different In payout. Also, depending on the child’s age, and how they handle it, you may want to buy a convertible instead of a bucket seat, or harness-booster instead of convertible.
How do I know if I’m over feeding my baby? He isn’t big (25% 2 weeks ago) and has had 30oz/day the last few days! Eating 4oz every 3 hours - he frequently gets pretty sleepy halfway through a bottle but the usual tricks wake him up and he finishes it.
Maybe he is so gassy bc of how much he’s eating? He’s already on probiotics & a formula with hydrolyzed protein.
latte , DD1 had a pretty significant umbilical hernia at birth. We have been waiting to see if it will close on its own, but sadly it hasn’t. She just had her 4 year checkup and our pedi said we can have it surgically repaired when we are ready. I’m not ready to deal with it yet. It doesn’t bother her so we will wait a bit longer. I’m not looking forward to having to get it done.
It has has never been an issue though. It has gotten less noticeable as she’s gotten older and now she just has a cute little outie belly button.
namasteak, how old is he? When DS was 2 months, he was eating 4oz every 2 hours, and around 4 months that increased to 6oz every 3 hours. If he's not spitting it all up he should be ok. Babies are good at stopping when they're full.

1 month old. It just seems like a lot!
He’s spitting up some after burping but not a ton. He’s been gassy so I was wondering if that was the formula or over feeding or just babies being babies

Keep in mind a bottle fed baby takes in more gas too. I vote you're doing good! C took huge bottles early on, but then didn't ever really increase as he got older.
We sent pullups and a potty ring today to daycare. I've been sitting at work waiting for app updates. Got a few "wet pullup--tried sitting on potty" and then this!! LOL
I'm so proud of my little buddy.
Disclaimer: I am under no assumption that this means anything, but I'm still so proud of him! My H and I made bets this morning on when we'd get the first drip of anything into a potty. My H said Friday. I said next week.
Question: Logistically---how did you deal with poop on the potty? Did you use TP or wipes? If wipes did you keep a bag in the bathroom for dirty ones? And take it out each time? I know they sell flushable ones, but you're still not really supposed to flush them, right? So no point? If TP was it hard to wipe with just TP? Just trying to be prepared in case he decides to do this again.

I use tp. If it isn't working with tp then I use a wipe and just throw it away.

Yay, that's awesome! We used wipes at first and then switched to TP as she got more used to pooping. And yes you are right, you are not supposed to flush the "flushable" wipes. So they really aren't that different than regular baby wipes which we had a bunch of already. I just put the wipes in the trash and took them out as often as we did diapers. Also I found washing poop out of the potty seat to be so much grosser than diapers , so the sooner you can move to a potty ring on the toilet the better!

Yay!
Like others we used TP and flush. I'm going to second PP though, start using the potty ring as soon as you can, the seat is gross. Luckily DD didn't mind going straight to the toilet with a ring and fingers crossed DS doesn't mind either.
(He's currently obsessed with sitting on it and will pee sometimes, but slow your roll kid)
S is offered a water bottle constantly. We have one with us always and offer it to him regularly. He usually does not want it, though with warmer weather he does drink more. Sometimes we tell him he HAS to drink water, on really hot days, when I see he has not had anything for awhile, etc.
Ok, so he has always tried to drink the water in the tub. We tell him no, but he will use anything he can to scoop water in the tub into his mouth and drink it. Now that the weather is warm and we are in pools or lakes all the time (you see where this is going...) he continues this pattern and is LAPPING up water from the pool or lake CONSTANTLY. Literally using dirty beach toys to drink nasty lake water. And swimming with his mouth open on purpose to drink more water. We tell him he can't do that, shut your mouth, etc. We remind him every couple of minutes while he swims and if he is playing in the wter and see him with water toys attempting to drink out of them we stop him.
But, how do we make this more real to him? He is THROWING UP from drinking so much nasty water. Every night this week after swimming he has puked and you can just hear water gurgling around in him.

Shauni, in the tub, I've started filling up a small cup with fresh water for her to drink, then she drinks less bath water. It's good practice drinking out of an open cup too! Not sure what to do about other bodies of water though.

Not a bad idea! Could just get him used to only drinking water out of cups and not, you know, bodies of water...lol

mbcdefg Look at what your car seat manufacturers website says about replacement in accidents. Any time insurance hassled me about replacing a seat, I would quote that and they would agree to pay for a replacement. They don’t want to risk having a future accident in a carseat they didn’t replace per the Mfr recs.
gerberdaisy My boys have loved the big metal tonka dump truck. They played with it in the house at first but now they play in the dirt outside and we’ve even taken it to the beach where all the boys who see it want to play with it.
icedcoffee That’s great! Our daycares were miracle workers when it came to potty training. They pushed it for DS2 and he does great there in regular undies now, but I still put him in a pull up at night and sometimes when we are out because I don’t want to deal with accidents (he rarely has them at school, but more at home and when we are out).
