Anything you guys are ready to burn down? I have one. AT&T.
Saturday our internet went down. AT&T still hasn’t fixed it. They couldn’t send a tech until Monday. The tech on Monday said there was a short in the overhead line, so he had to send a line tech. Fine. Next day, nothing. No service. I call to find out when the line tech is going to be there. We know that no tech had showed up because there is an “overhead” line hanging in our backyard about 5 feet off the ground. They said a line tech had already fixed it and closed the ticket, so I had to start over with a person looking in my house, who could then order a line tech. I lost my shit.
At this point, we are on Day 4 of no internet, no television (we have Uverse), and I am pissed. Plus, I have an overhead line hanging face-height in my backyard. Since AT&T won’t get off their asses and fix it, I called the Public Utility Commission. They gave me the number to the Office if the President of AT&T. So I called that number and gave them the entire story. Multiple techs. Refusal to get a line tech out. The violation of state law related to overhead lines. The trespass on my property since the line is hanging so low and outside of their easement area.
In the meantime, the tech comes out (30 minutes past the latest he was supposed to show up), and verified the line is deader than a door nail. Obviously no one has touched it. He’s very apologetic. He at least provides us the ticket number for the line repair so we can follow up.
The Office of the President was apparently impressed with my lawyer voice. Plus the fact that I started the call with “The Public Utility Commission provided your number and indicated I should tell you I plan to file a complaint with their office for your blatant violation of state law.” So now, today, Day 5, supposedly a lineman will fix the issue.
I’m not holding my breath. I’m switching to Spectrum. Unfortunately the guy behind us told the AT&T tech his internet is down too, and I think he has Spectrum.
The last dealings I had with ATT, for cell phone, involved my state attorney general and their corporate office. That company is like dealing with the management of hell.
Wow, rere , I'll definitely avoid ATT for cell phone service! (We're with Verizon now.)
Long story short. They sold me 2 phones on a buy one get one promotion. Then I get the bill and they are charging for both phones. I call and they tell me that the phones, that the sold me, were not covered in the promotion. Took me about 4 months and obviously calling every entity I know, but I get the money back. I will only buy phones straight out from now on. DS wants a new phone for Christmas and I will just buy it. We are stuck with ATT for service because of coverage, but they supremely suck.
Not sure burn it down level but I have a couple. 1. My body is always sore, and it is super annoying. First it was from doing mulch. Then over stretching, then a concert...
2. There is something wrong with my dad. Always has been as far as I know. He is an alcoholic. Anyway, there is nothing we can do. He lives in Columbia, S.A. He frequently gets in fights with his 40 year old girlfriend (he is 70). Then she texts us that he is old (senile) and an alcoholic, well obviously he is an alcoholic. He leaves the house, she is worried and reaches out to us. Fine, but we are not in Columba- there is literally nothing we can do except contact the State Dept and there is no reason to do that because someone fights with their girlfriend and is an alcoholic. She tells us that she wants us to take care of him when he visits. Like oh just keep him over there. OK yeah like I can keep a 70 year old man in another country against his will. Sorry you are in a relationship with him. You can easily break up with him and he can find a new apartment. Not a big deal. There are doctors in Columbia. I mean I'm not trying to be a bitch, but you're on another continent, what am I supposed to do?
And we do reach out to him when this happens and he says he is fine.
A work event I'm trying to plan. Tried to get a jump start on it months ago since it's always a fiasco every year. We are now running behind deadlines and the people attending cannot make a decision to save their lives. Literally told one of them today "I don't f-ing care anymore. Just choose something and tell me what to book."
My homeowner neighbor: He has gone off the deep end since his wife left in January. Drugs, alcohol, crazy girlfriend, in and out of jail, loud music all night long, dogs running rampage, basically being a crazy guy who is driving all the neighbors batty. Girlfriend got him thrown in jail last week again. It was so peaceful not listening to them fight, the music, etc. Not nice was the cops knocking on our door at 6am wanting to chat about him. Since he got out over the weekend we have found run over shot gun shells on the sidewalk in front of his house, the screaming fights that break out at 11 or later has started again and last night he was out working on a car with the headlights flooding our bedroom and the music plus base up. DH called the nonemergency police line as he wasn't going to go over at 11 to tell him to knock it off. Guy has been bragging about living in the house for free and screwing his ex's credit.
We've built a fence between our front yard and his to help with the headlights but other than calling the nonemergency police number I don't know what to do about having a rotten homeowner for a neighbor.

Oh! I forgot this part. On Monday while the tech was there, a loyalty manager shows up. I hear DH telling her we have been generally pleased with their service and she was trying to sell us cell service. I lost my shit. Came barreling around the corner saying “The only reason we have any ability to communicate right now is that I forced my husband to change our cell phones to Verizon. We had AT&T. We got ZERO service in our house but your people said we were in an EXCELLENT service area. Your techs have to stand in the middle of the street to call your offices. So then your people said it was because our house is made of brick. I tell everyone I meet that unless they live in a house made of straw or sticks, they should avoid your service at all costs.”
sandandsea - I’m so sorry. Any recourse? I don’t know how this works in your line of work, but could you start shopping around? Any chance you could be hired in as a partner elsewhere?
I would find it difficult to keep pushing through for another year... but I’m spiteful, and that hasn’t served me well.
I think waiting it out is probably my best move. I could easiest go elsewhere but it’s such a pain and very bad for to leave this time of year. Also I’d have to reprove myself vs just wait. I’m still really upset by it and want to burn it down but know that’s not in may best interest.
