PSA: If your data was exposed as a part of the Equifax breach you can get up to 10 years of free credit monitoring and insurance OR a $125 settlement (comes after January 2020). There is a way to see if you were a part of the breach. If you had identity theft or incurred losses you can get more compensation (including up to 20 hours of your time at $25/hour).
I was a victim of the Anthem identity theft in 2015 where someone filed fraudulent federal and state taxes in my name, causing a whole big mess and I definitely would have appreciated some compensation for that. Instead I got just 1 year of credit monitoring
DH and I were both affected - I ended up doing the credit monitoring for us both since neither of us have any and froze our credit for now. I feel like payout will end up being like 60 cents so I figured this was a better option. My kids were not affected but I think I might freeze their credit? I didn't realize that was a thing until these threads but it makes sense since they clearly aren't opening up accounts at 2 and 3.

If you figure out how to freeze the credit for minors will you share your experience with the process? I need to do this. One of my kids (7 years old) was a part of the Anthem breach and I have had it on my list. I was not able to do it online like I could for us and gave up re: the process for minors. I'd like to do it for both my girls.
I have frozen credit for my children. They all tell you in their website what you need. It was basically sending in copies of their information and mine stating I wanted their credit frozen. It all had to be done by mail. They then send back a form once it is done.
Thanks for the update. H, myself, and my son were all affected and opted for the cash settlement because we have credit monitoring through our individual credit cards. I entered that information in on the website and now we'll sit back and wait for our checks in the amount of $3.78.
