My weekend was the perfect mix of quiet and productive. DH and the kids left Friday, so I spent the day putting my house back together after packing and no one cleaning up after themselves while I was focused on packing. I cleaned out 2 closets, DD1’s desk (she “cleaned” her room by shoving everything but her clothes into her desk), and the garage as well.
Saturday I went for a long walk and weeded all of the landscaping beds around the pool. Could barely move after. Rallied and picked up some new furniture for DD2’s room and had dinner with my parents.
Yesterday I put together the new shelves for DD2, cleaned and organized her whole room, cleaned and organized my whole room, took long walk, and swam, uninterrupted, alone.
We had a rocking pool party on Saturday. 7 kids and 8 adults. We all had fun. And my kids ate drumsticks! Even with the nuts. I was so surprised.
Sunday my stupid neck was hurting. I slept on 2 pillows, and my neck just completely locked up. We took the kids shoe shopping for school shoes, and DD, who is 7, needed a 4.5 in Nike tie shoes! Which is crazy since her dress shoes are a 3 and they are big on her. The girl has some big feet. But Nike apparently makes small shoes. Then I taught DD to tie her shoes! She got it in about 3 minutes!

Yup, my 7.5 year old is the same, size 4! . Her feet are huge. My 11 year old is in a 5.5, she’s catching up to her quick!
I felt like we barely had a weekend. We had to travel to our last swim meet of the summer season so we spent a lot of money on food and hotels. That’s never fun. Early morning prelims sessions meant we had to get up at 5:30 AM eastern time (we live in central time) so it felt like 4:30 each morning. Kids had to be on deck, ready to swim at 6:20. It was just brutal. Long, HOT, sessions in the crowded stands. DD had some good swims, but overall not a great meet for her. Didn’t make it back to any finals. She wasn’t too disappointed so that’s good. We got back yesterday afternoon and all took naps. Went to church in the evening and then back to bed to be up for our day early today. I’m ready for Friday already!
The weekend was good. Had a nice day on Saturday visiting with college friends. I feel like all of us are going through some stuff right now and need to band together and see each other more often, or at least do a better job of checking in on each other.
Yesterday was a perfect day at the amusement park. We spent the day with my parents and sister. Weather was great - sunny, nice breeze, no humidity. No lines anywhere! And we got home in time to have dinner and for me to clean up the house before we started the week off, which is a miracle. Usually my parents try to convince me to stay and drive home after dinner and throw the kids in bed straight from the car, which never works out well.
Weekend was busy, but pretty good. DD loved the Descendants movie marathon at her friend's house on Friday afternoon/evening. Saturday - Sunday DS played in a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. They had 3 games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday, but he missed game 2 on Saturday due to a migraine. We gave him ibuprofen and he took a 1.5 hour nap and then he rallied for game 3, but still was not great (because he puked all over himself and the seat of the car on the way home, even though he was holding onto a plastic bag to throw up in). I took DD out for dinner and to do school supply shopping Saturday evening so the house would be more quiet for DS to rest.
Thankfully the 2 games on Sunday were in the morning, so we had the whole afternoon to do a few things around the house and also relax. I also did a little back-to-school shopping online (although I was bummed to find out this morning that Ebates is offering 10% cash back today, and when I placed an order yesterday, it was 2%).
Wonderful weekend. Had way too much fun on girls day and stayed up way to late for the wedding Saturday. I refused to set foot off of my property Sunday and got nothing done.
School starts back this week. I took off tomorrow, but since DD has volleyball, I think I am just going to spend the day cleaning. The house has been pretty neglected lately. DH has to take DD today to get teeth pulled. Let's just hope by pulling the rest of her baby teeth, that will help close the tiny gap in the front and save use $$$$ on braces. She has team pictures this afternoon, so hopefully the numbness wears off or they should be interesting.
My weekend was meh. On Saturday, we headed to the gym in the morning. Afterwards, I was utterly exhausted. I tried to take a nap, but it wasn't very restful. My mood was terrible for the rest of the day. The lawnmower broke so the bottom of our yard looks like a jungle. DH's mood started to sour too at that point, so I made an executive decision to get some pizza for dinner. I was glad when bedtime came. On Sunday, I headed to the gym by myself. When I got home I was determined to turn the mood around. So we fed the kids lunch, did a little shopping at Old Navy to check out the deals for school, and then headed to the park. We played at the playground and waded in the creek for a bit. Then we stopped for groceries and had french toast and bacon for dinner. The evening was for relaxing. My Monday got started at 4am when DS2 got up. I couldn't get him to go back to sleep, so I woke DH up at 5:30 and went to work early. DH has already promised me an early bedtime, if I need it.
My terrible mood and fatigue has been very bothersome. I just started training for a 10 mile race last week. Getting 2 miles done over 3 days should not have wiped me out as much as it did. So I checked the side effects for a new med I am taking for my stomach issues - guess what some of the side effects are? Fatigue and increased depression. FML. I'm going to stop taking that med tonight and see what happens in the next few days. Then I'll give the dr a call and see if he has any other things to try.
My department is overworked and losing our minds. Then one of my employees just quit this morning. My sanity is barely intact. Guy I'm seeing just texted to say I should spontaneously tag along on his work trip to NYC this week. If I had the PTO to burn, I would totally take him up on it and run away from my problems right now, but I'm using up the last of my "extra" time off for doctors' appointments for my kids next week. Why do I have to be a grown up with real responsibilities?!

We had a decent weekend despite having 2 parties on both days. Saturday was a baby shower that DD and I attended then a cookout at a friend's house for the whole family. In between, DS and I packed up at my office building some and made a trip to the storage unit.
Sunday was breakfast out, a gender reveal and a birthday party for our niece. In between those we speed cleaned our current house because someone wanted to see it so they can be a back up offer. Their offer is supposedly $13k higher than asking. It's our neighbor's kid and family, so they are motivated. But we also know it's a VA loan and inspections/appraisals will be picky. And there ain't no way our house will appraise for what they are wanting to offer and we will end up back where we are with the current buyers.
Week 2 of school started today. DS was still worried about missing me and crying. Bus service starts today so that is adding to his worries I think. Hopefully he does the bus switch right and makes it to MILs. I'm hoping my niece helps him. I'm sure he will be up her ass and leave her no choice lol
We got back yesterday from our 10 vacation. It was good, but I am tired and overwhelmed with work and house stuff. DH is leaving tonight to travel for work for the week. On the bright side, I just put in a grocery order, and they had a slot for 8pm tonight, which means that we will have food again.
Saturday H had to work. I went to the gym, took DD and the boys to a birthday party, then DS1 to fencing. Drove back to pick up my rings and then back to pick him up. I was gone from 9:30 to 5. So tired. Packed and then we left at 7:30 am for Duck NC.
18 people and 2 dogs in a big house. Returning from a dolphin tour!
Fun dinner out with friends Friday night, gymnastics for all 3 kids Saturday morning (first organized class for DS2 and he loved it, despite being a bit confused about why all the adults were singing songs and stuff), mall for new school shoes, and pool. Yesterday we met friends at the beach and then did the pool in the afternoon and I had a my tennis lesson. DD and DS1 proclaimed yesterday the best day ever because I let them get treats from an ice cream truck at the beach.
But DH and I argued over something dumb Saturday night, and this weekend involved finding out about a lot of death - 5 people who were friends of friends or relatives of friends over the past week or so, plus the news about mass shootings. So I had a little bit of trouble sleeping over all that. I was up early enough Sunday morning to find out that my Sunday newspaper gets delivered by 5:30 am.
These are the new school shoes DD picked out. She's such a little SoCal girl, which is interesting to DH and me since we grew up on the East coast. And she talked DS1 into Vans slip-ons with flames on them for kindergarten
My weekend was good. We got DD and new bike, and she is going so good with riding. I am so excited for her. Picked up my dad from the bus station.
Back to work after the vacation, and lots of little things to do, and some bigger things. Making my way through the mess.
I too keep thinking about a tragedy that happened as well as the shootings. I am not sure what to do, but I keep trying to make a difference and be vigilant even if it doesn't help all that much.
Add us to the list that bought school shoes this weekend. sdlaura, DD1 and DD2 picked out a similar style with smiley faces all over them. They are in love with their new shoes.
Friday was a family movie night at home trying to recover from the week. We were at the doctor's office three times last week for DD1 and DD3. We have a follow up with the ENT this Friday for both. DD3's allergy testing was negative and she came down with another 105 fever so we couldn't do follow up blood work. We are checking her adenoids next and bloodwork in two weeks if she can get healthy.
I took the two oldest girls shoe shopping and to the movies on Saturday. DH spent the morning with DD3 going on a bike ride. We put the pool up in the backyard and had squirt gun fights that afternoon. We borrowed a neighbor's tagalong and went on a long family bike ride Sunday. Then, lots of landscaping and laundry. We broke up the day and bought new patio furniture and spent the afternoon putting it together. Put the kids to bed early and I read my book for two glorious hours on the patio.
DD3 was up at midnight and every hour after. She is sneezing and has a runny nose this morning on top of the cough that is still lingering from last week's virus. The kid can't catch a break.
waverly, I'm updating my life insurance right now, which makes me feel like I'm doing something. And I just read this article on disaster preparedness. The Sunday NY times also had an article about the Paradise fire that I read last night, which probably isn't helping. It was terrifying. Here's the article and the piece I just read on disaster preparedness if anyone is interested
Weekend was okay. It was a chill weekend which we all needed. Saturday night just before midnight DH called the cops. He heard this hissing sound outside went out to investigate to find some one inside the neighbors big ass work truck and was in the process of letting out all the air in the tires. Dh yelled and the lady said she was Angie's mom and it was okay and they were just letting the winter air out. Non-emergency police were no help and no one even came out. Neighbor has been in jail, girlfriend comes in about 45 minutes after DH called the police making enough racket to wake the dead. DH goes out to investigate again. Then around 2:30am she starts a screaming match with someone and her two dogs are having a full on dog fight. It sounded like they caught something and was pulling it to shreds. Lets just say DH didn't sleep much, our dog was up and anxious as DH was up, and DH kept waking me up. DD gets up around 8 and wants to know who was making all the noise last night. I'm starting to get worried that neighbor's girlfriend and her cronies are going to start retaliating against us neighbors as we all have been taking turns calling the cops over their shenanigans.

DH took the boys to their first major league baseball game this weekend and they had a blast. Sunday I managed to cut my finger while making dinner and ended up needing an ER visit. They glued it rather than stitched it up and it is pretty ugly looking. I have a follow up tomorrow and I am going to ask the doctor if she can glue it some more as I have a pinprick sized opening on two sides. The pain isn't that bad, it's just a blasted inconvenience because it is the thumb on my dominant hand.
School starts next week and I am stoked. DS1 really needs the structure and to see his friends. Teachers were posted today and I already know he has one friend in his class.

186momx, one would think that if the same house gets reported to the police so many times, that something would be done. Have you/DH mentioned when you call that you are concerned for the safety of your children? At a minimum, have you considered installing cameras on the outside of your house in case they do get it in their heads to retaliate? That whole situation would make me anxious too.
RE: emergency preparedness... We have a large Rubbermaid tote with basic supplies (instead of a "bug out bag" we have a "bug out tote") - first aid kit, heat-reflective blankets, waterproof matches, solar-power lamps, water filtration straws, freeze-dried food, etc. If we need to switch to bags, I bought each of us (including the kids) a packable backpack (lightweight and easy to store), so we should be able to carry the absolute essentials among the 4 of us. I also like to keep the gas tank in my car between 1/2 - 3/4 full, just in case. If we are able to stay home, I have a lot of canned and shelf-stable food and jugs of water that will sustain us for a few weeks, at a minimum.
It’s midyear rating time at my company. I got to sit in and help tell an employee that while he’s great at his job, his attitude sucks. And that he needs to knock off acting like an asshole and telling people he’s going to stop sharing his ideas with his leadership because we steal them and never give him credit. So that was a fun Monday. I hope he quits. Because I’m tired of dealing with his snotty attitude.

Today is my monday as we went to my ILs property in the hill country over the weekend. It was a good, relaxing time without too much activity other than a couple wineries, smores, lots of arts and crafts and walks and stuff.
While I was gone the shit kind of hit the fan on one of the fundraising things I was working on for the school. I had no idea, but apparently the board was not happy with the online fundraising tool that the last chair used for the fun run. So while I thought I could just circulate a contract that looked exactly like last year's, I'm now researching other companies as fast as I can to see if I can find a cheaper option. I absolutely am not doing paper and pencil. F. That.
But I have found two cheaper platforms so now it's just seeing what's the best fit for the money.
