My DH has decided he wants us to move. I'm not convinced it's the right thing to do. My biggest concerns are the updates that our house needs to get top dollar and purging (we have lived here 20 years). Would it be tacky to ask a local real estate agent to come by and give us advice on the updates that would be a must. It would be someone that we know and we would list with her if we decide too, but there is a possibility that we won't list. Thoughts???
Not at all tacky. That’s part of their job! Depends on the market where you are but you may be pleasantly surprised and not have to do as many updates as you think.
My parents have done this because they built in 1994 and not much has been updated aside from carpet/paint over the years. The realtor was happy to walk through and talk about what was worth updating vs not even though they don't plan to sell for another year.
