On the bright side I'm glad I looked through it before it was installed. On the negative side...holy crap, what am I going to do?
Here's a photo from online of a "real installation":
And the in-store sample board:
I'll look through some of the other boxes, but here's what the first box looked like -- all the tiles are just solid white, with no color variation or veining, at most just an occasional brown speck that looks like dirt:
Update: I opened a few more boxes, and they were all like that. I went to the store today. Of course they were like, ::shrug:: "It's a natural stone, you take your chances." There was one box with lots of variation in the store, so I thought I had a shot, but then all the boxes underneath were pretty much what I had. Plus, the stone was packed super tight into flimsy boxes and it just seemed unlikely that I'd be able to choose 970 good tiles to buy and transport home. So, new plan:
New shower wall (it photographed darker than it looks IRL) a light griege 3x9 tile with a subtle crackle finish:
New shower floor (this I did pick out myself to be sure the colors were what I wanted):
OF COURSE, now I'm reading that crackle finish might not be good in a shower because water can permeate it more easily, and some people have found flaws with THAT tile brand (https://www.houzz.com/discussions/4012342/bad-tile-job), but at this point I think I just need to stop researching and let the tile guy figure it out. It's not what I planned, but I think it'll be fine.
I would return it but look through the other boxes first. For natural stone sometimes people will return one box that is all the "rejects" they didn't like in the pattern.
Edit: Also wanted to mention if it's real marble and you need to order from a different source, try Thebuilderdepot.com. I have bought from them many times and been happy.
