DD has a horrible diaper rash.... It looks like burst blisters and she screams bloody murder as soon as she has a wet or dirty diaper, which is often since she's only 7 weeks old. I think she has reflux (she has other symptoms as well) and her poop is acidic and causing the rash. My usual caking on of triple paste hasn't been helping. I can't get in to the pedi today. Is there something else I should try? It's difficult to let her go diaperless since I have a 17 month old that I'm having to chase after as well.
We only use water wipes and I've been really trying to just dab instead of wipe her clean. I added aquaphor diaper cream to the triple paste yesterday, but haven't seen any improvement yet. Should I be using the regular aquaphor? Because the diaper cream is kind of thin and doesn't seem to really create a barrier.
We use the tubs of regular Aquaphor, but I don't know if it would do anything Triple Paste can't do. Worth a try until you can get into the pedi?
I'd also try using a peri bottle to rinse instead of water wipes. Water Wipes are great, but for a rash this bad I'd try to avoid touching at all, whenever possible.

Is the skin kind of raw and, for lack of a better term, beefy looking? You may have some yeast going on. Nystatin tends to be prescribed for that, but I'm wondering if you might try mixing a little bit of an anti-fungal (like Monistat) in with your diaper creams. Could you call the nurse's line and see if this is safe to do with a little one if they can't prescribe something for you?
Not gonna help you today bc you have to order it but the best cream I’ve found through three kids is sensi-care barrier cream. Maroon tube and can be found on amazon.

Yes! Our local drugstore chain has it with the adult incontinence section instead of the baby stuff. This is what I use if triple paste isn’t working.

I had to call the pedi for a prescription diaper rash this week because DD had such a nasty rash. We were using a peri bottle to spray her poops and she was flinching so I called the pedi to ask for suggestions since our usual caking of all the things wasn't helping and they were happy to send something to the compound pharmacy. So it might be worth the call to the pedi .

I’d call the pediatrician in case it is yeast. I actually used triple paste, aquaphor and cornstarch based powder over it (recommendation from my pediatrician for a non-yeast diaper rash)

Try coconut oil. It is anti fungal and easy to apply as it melts instantly at skin temperature. Also the baking soda baths and diaper free time as much as possible. At least at 7 weeks you can do naked time on a blanket or towel and they won’t go far
Thanks for the suggestions. We actually were able to get in today and she suggested neosporin for the open sores and Lotrimin caked on top of that. We'll try it for a few days and see if it gets any better. If it doesn't work, I'll definitely try some of these.

Yes ditto Sensicare. DS had a similar awful open store kind of diaper rash around that age and it was the only thing that worked. Someone here recommended it and I was so grateful because the pedi recommendations did nothing.
I'll have to check out the Sensicare stuff too today. It seemed like it got better overnight, but she didn't have any poopy diapers. Her first poop this morning really angered it. I may try the maalox trick too.
Not using wipes made a big difference when DD had terrible diaper rash. I had a spare peri bottle from the hospital so we used that full of warm water to hose things down, then pat dry with a burpcloth, then diaper cream or ointment.
I'm taking some tips from here. Triple paste has helped a bit this week but E2 still has a raw angry patch. And he's pooping like 6 times a day so that's not helping.
My daycare provider recommended milk of magnesia topically and it helped a ton.
This is what DH’s aunt recommended (she cares for kids with significant mental and physical delays, so she has a lot of patients who are older but still in diapers).
Both of our boys are/were prone to serious diaper rash with bleeding, open sores. This helped a lot when they were younger.
It seems to help get rid of some of the acid and protect the skin. Keep slathering on your cream to choice too (we also like Triple Paste).
Oh, also, lotsssss of naked time. As much as possible. We found that letting the rash breathe helped it with scabbing over faster and that made it less prone to the sores opening back up with the next poop.
DD used to get diaper rashes. I used the red butt paste, wiped her only with with disposable wash cloths dipped in water, and switched her to Pampers Sensitive when it would happen. They don't make Pampers Sensitive anymore, they have the Pampers Pure line now. I always read about it, but I never did naked time.
Thank you to everyone for the Sensicare recommendation! Her rash seems to be a lot better today. I also switched back to Honest diapers (we were trying out Hello Bello). No idea if that was an issue as well, but it seems to have helped.
