DS2 and I went to a house tour as part of Denver’s mid century modern week. denvermodernismweek.com/
It was fun to see how people have adapted and changed the houses to stay true to the intent of the style but with modern touches. This specific tour is in an area that wasn’t super affluent, compared to other well known areas around town. so the neighborhood is very mixed on quality of upkeep, and there are also a bunch of other brick basic mid century homes mixed in (just not so “styled”). There were 4 houses open (all homeowners present), and two were the same bedroom layout, just rotated front. All kitchens and most bathrooms had been updated, halls were 1-person wide, and all had at one time a carport instead of garage. Pictures to follow in additional posts.
I work in one of Sternberg’s office buildings and hope to check out the exhibit on him. Our bldg is included in a walking tour as well.
House 3 Area in the “front” of the house between the main house and an office space. Looking into the space from near the house main entrance, and then back. The landscape architect in me likes this house’s outdoor space a lot. This is still house 3. House 2 and 3 had different living space layouts but were the same on the back of the house with the bedrooms
House 4 was a corner house that had a cute courtyard between the house and garage (the vertical slatted panels are on the back of this space) and the big room with the wood ceiling is an addition at the corner added in 1960 a few years after the house was built. In the rest of the corner houses in the neighborhood, this is also an outdoor space and the house is L shaped.
House 4 exterior addition is the solid wall with the fire place, done by an architect who lived in the neighborhood, and the patio space is behind the fence on the right.

Love it! I follow a lot of MCM home pages and hashtags on IG and I think I saw some from Denver recently. Our old neighborhood in Houston had some amazing MCM houses, although a lot of them are being torn down after flooding and replaced with McMansions. Some people are elevating theirs which is really interesting to see before and after, and some people are building MCM McMansions. Palm Springs has so many amazing examples and I see a lot of great modernization projects and historical MCM homes by known architects around L.A.
