S/o lunch boxes, Bentgo boxes are $17.99 for the solid kid colors on Amazon today. We’ve had them a couple years and you the only issue we’ve had is a latch breaking (but they still seem to work ok with one latch as long as there not liquid in them). We had the issue with a different brand that only had one latch and it was unusable.
Has anyone tried the 4 compartment ones for their kids (they seem “marketed” for adults)? They also deal of the day for 19.99$ wondering if it is worth having that confirmation as well.

A friend has both - bought the adult ones because the compartments are bigger. She said they don’t hold up to being dropped as well as the kids do so I guess it just depends upon the age/clumsiness level of your kid.

I’ve considered it because my kids don’t eat sauce or dip of any kind so it’s hard to fill up the center circle in the kids one (raisins, bluberries or tiny crackers fit), but we are already committed to the other style with extra tray inserts.

Apparently they have a pretty good warranty (like two years) and helpful customer service. It’s worth calling them. In the Amazon reviews several people mention a person named Erica who was really helpful.
$18 is a good deal for a glorified Tupperware container? I’m far too cheap for that.
I tried cheaping out at first, and bought Igloo brand and Rubbermaid bento boxes at Target. They both were a pain, with too many pieces that were hard for the kids to open on their own (and also a lot to hand wash each night). Plus, they leaked.
The Bento doesn’t leak, and is 2 solid pieces, which make washing easier. Totally worth it for $18. My boys (5 &4) love it. It doesn’t hold enough food for my 10 year old, though, so better for younger kids who are snackers.

if I wanted to throw money around like confetti, I’d get a Planet Box. It’s stainless steel, so it can go in the dishwasher. But no ma’am, I’m not about to pay $50+ for one. I’ll get out my dish gloves each night to wash the Bentos. 😂
Are they insulated? Is there a place for an ice pack?
We live in a hot climate and lunches are generally kept outside.
No. We use the PBK lunch box that comes with a removable ice pack and there’s also enough room to throw a square ice pack and other snacks in the lunch box, outside of the Bentgo box.
Responding to other posts: I’ve tried other methods and the 2 piece bento box saves me so much time while packing lunches and it’s easy enough for a two year old to open.
I need to contact the manufacturer about the broken latch.
I do not like spending money on kid stuff. (We swap toys on buy nothing, did not splurge on a fancy stroller or crib, always go for cheap or used clothing) but this is one product I think is worth it. I’ve used other bento boxes and these are much better in terms of leakproof and ease of cleaning. That’s worth the $$ to me every time!

I'm late but just in case- I bought the 4 compartment one for my son (last year in Pre-K) and it is heavier than the kids version so I ended up switching to the kids version. It's a minuscule difference for an older kid or teen but for my 4/5 year it was a big difference so we switched.
We had two that we rotated for kindergarten and 1st and they are both going strong still. I just grabbed two more because then I can be lazier
We tried a few different kinds and this is the only one that holds up to her abuse. I like the multiple compartments because she often wants lots of smaller portions. If you need to keep it cold, they make the slim ice packs that work perfectly.

It looks like Amazon sells a tray/lid combo for like $10. This way you can pre-pack the trays and keep them covered in your fridge, then just skip them into a new shell when your kid brings them home?

Yes, this is what we have. Honestly, I don’t use the lids or pre-pack as much as I used to, but it’s nice to have a clean, dry tray to use every night and then I can rotate trays in the dishwasher. It’s easier to quickly wash and dry the outer cover lid than the whole thing with the tray.

I was close to buying these instead, but with the deal I figured it was worth it to buy the entire set so I don't feel the need to wash as quickly. It really is a great option though!
We used planetbox the last 2 years and i was nervous about Ds1 losing it at kinder. 1 week in with the bentgos and I hate to say it but I love them more than the planetbox! Besides being lighter, the leakproof factor is HUGE and the section for dip is really nice too but I think my favorite thing is buying extra trays for $10 so I only have to make lunch once a week!
