I know this is catty (and a tweet), but my friend who runs the state's invasive species program just sent me a copy of this tweet that shows Ivanka in a field with invasive thistles and Ivanka had captioned it, "Where the wild things are..."
My friend is so pissed that Ivanka being completely blind to land and animal issues associated with invasive species that Ivanka would basically celebrate these huge flowers as "wild" when they are causing so much damage to ecosystems. My friend actually said in her text to me, "Why doesn't Ivanka just pose with invasive thistle while hugging a feral pig and shooting a protected grizzly bear."

Also to make this more about #45, I liked this recent poll on that the longer Trump is in office the more people are rejecting some of his racist ideas. I had no idea about this. I felt like people, especially voters without college degrees, were still staunchly with him on his views.
But maybe Roosevelt was right after all. Recent polling shows that Donald Trump has managed to reshape American attitudes to a remarkable extent on a trio of his key issues—race, immigration, and trade.
There’s just one catch: The public is turning against Trump’s views.
A Reuters poll released today contains a trove of interesting data on race. Trump has long sought to use racial tension to gain political leverage, but this summer he has become especially explicit about exploiting and exaggerating racial divisions, with a series of racist attacks on four Democratic congresswomen, and then on their colleague Elijah Cummings, as a strategy ahead of the 2020 election.
But the Reuters poll casts doubt on that strategy: “The Reuters analysis also found that Americans were less likely to express feelings of racial anxiety this year, and they were more likely to empathize with African Americans. This was also true for white Americans and whites without a college degree, who largely backed Trump in 2016." Among the details, the number of whites who say “America must protect and preserve its White European heritage” has sunk nine points since last August. The percentages of whites, and white Republicans, who strongly agree that “white people are currently under attack in this country” have each dropped by roughly 25 points from the same time two years ago.
United States Steel Corp (X.N) will temporarily lay off hundreds of workers at its Great Lakes facility in Michigan in coming weeks, according to a filing the steelmaker made with the State of Michigan.
In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed on Aug. 5, the Pittsburgh-based company said it expects to let go fewer than 200 workers following its decision to halt production at the Michigan facility.
...
The lay-offs call into question claims President Donald Trump has made about the resurgence of the domestic steel industry. Last week in Pennsylvania, Trump said his 25% tariff on foreign imports has turned a "dead" business into a "thriving" enterprise.
Domestic steel prices did rise in the immediate aftermath of Trump's tariffs. But they have fallen dramatically amid improved supplies and weakening demand from the auto and farm machinery sectors.

Trump is at it again - going after intelligent legislators with language that makes women (and especially women of color) seem weak and less likely to make sound decisions. I am so angry at how Trump writes about women... "don't buy her tears" is such a way to undermine and discredit someone who shows true emotion, Rep Tlaib.
Apparently responding to a news conference Monday at which Tlaib, D-Detroit, emotionally described her decision not to visit her grandmother in the West Bank after Israel placed conditions on her visit, Trump tweeted, "Sorry, I don't buy Rep. Tlaib's tears."
"I have watched her violence, craziness and, most importantly WORDS, for far too long," Trump tweeted. "Now tears? She hates Israel and all Jewish people. She is an anti-Semite."
And the worst part is that the article has to note that Tlaib has never been violent or threatened violence. As if we have to say that about our leaders now! Well, I guess we do since we have Trump threatening violence against others and those interrupting his rallies

Anybody think this new idea of cutting payroll taxes (without consideration as to how we are going to fund the F$&%ing government services and all his military and ICE spending) is a response to the poll that said he was slipping a little? I think so. Ugh.
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the administration is looking at possible tax cuts, but reiterated that the US economy is still growing and remains very far from a recession.
"We're looking at various tax rate deductions but I'm looking at that all the time ... that's one of the reasons we're in such a strong economic position. We're, right now, the No. 1 country anywhere in the world by far as an economy," Trump told press during a White House meeting with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.
"Payroll tax is something that we think about and a lot of people would like to see that, and that very much affects the workers of our country," Trump said, but cautioned that he's "not looking to do anything at this moment" as it relates to those potential tax cuts.
But despite Trump's public-facing vociferousness about the strength of the economy on his watch and aides stating they have no concerns about a recession, officials have discussed the possibility of a potential payroll tax cut to stave off anxiety over an economic slowdown in recent days.
downtoearth I think he knows that a strong economy is critical to his reelection chances, so he's going to do whatever he thinks will give a short-term economic boost and stave off a recession past November 2020, regardless of the long-term consequences.
On the flip side, this asshole thinks we can still buy territories like it’s Monopoly, which means who the fuck knows what he’d be willing to sell??
Nice knowing you, Hawaii (Putin might want Alaska back but alas, red state).
Conan O’Brien is going go Greenland as his next Conan Without Borders trip/special, to “negotiate” the matter. He offered to trade Florida.
Not a bad idea, except I'd hate having to go through customs to visit my son, grandkid and MIL. Other than that, not a bad plan. I'd consider Kansas as an alternative, if only for my convenience. Simple to flyover. Just ask them.
I really thought DH was joking when he told me this today. Does anyone think he cancelled because the PM is a woman and he doesn't like women who tell him NO?

Obama is going to be visiting Denmark 2weeks after the scheduled trump trip. The reception from the danish public is expected to be much more positive. Trump, or maybe trump aides, thought this Greenland nonsense was less embarrassing than the comparably big crowds for Obama.
Queen Margrethe of Denmark is reported to be ‘shocked’ after President Trump cancelled his upcoming state visit to the Kingdom after a dispute over Greenland.
According to Danish newspaper BT, Her Majesty is “shocked” by the impulsive decision, with the President pulling out of the visit just two weeks before it was due to take place.
A spokesperson for The Queen reacted to the news saying: “That was a surprise! We are simply lost for words.”
The Danish royal household had already put a lot of work and effort into the visit as they prepared to welcome the US President.
The Queen’s staff had cancelled their summer leave to help prepare the visit after Her Majesty invited Trump to visit her country last month.
