I got my period at 11, but didn’t stop growing until sometime in high school. I grew a full 2” during high school (went from 4’10.5” at 8th grade graduation to just about 5’1”).
No. I was 11 yrs old when my period started and stopped growing two years later. I'm only 5'2".
How tall were you when you got it? My DD got hers over the winter. She's always been in the 75-90% for height. She's as tall as I am now (5'3") but I am wondering if she'll grow much more. We always assumed she'd be 5'8"+ since my H is 6'3"

I think I did but I have no idea what my height was back then. I got my period at age 10. I am 5'4 but I was not close to 5'4 at age 10. I know I had a huge growth spurt in the 8th grade.

Nope and we just had the conversation with dds pedi about the same thing. She’s always been 90th for height, she got her period two year ago (at 10.5) and her growing just leveled out, her pedi said you generally only grow 2-3” after you get it. She’s grown less than two inches since she did
I am asking because of her drama llama tendencies. Since she's been old enough to notice she's been very sensitive about being "big" and taller than her friends and was dreading being the tall friend. I spent a lot of her early years building up how awesome it was to be tall and how I wished I was taller. After she got her period, we talked about how she might not be as tall as we had thought bc there was this thing on the radio about obesity and height and early periods, etc. that she overheard in the car. Now she is all bummed she might be short and wants to be taller. Sigh.

I edited my original post. I was the tallest 5th grader in my class, but my reign was short.

It's is so crazy bc she just looks like a tall person. Her legs go for miles and are WAY longer than mine, just like her dad. It's going to be weird if we end up around the same height!
ETA: so if she grows another inch or 2 she's be 5'4-5'5" (which is a nice height)
Did you grow much after? I am referring to height.
I was 11 and I stopped growing at about 16 at 5’8”. My oldest daughter was 8 and it looks like she’s stopped growing now at 17 and she’s half an inch taller than I am.

Ah so it is possible! I also wonder about the rest of development. She is def not far ahead in all the other areas of development (she hasn't really filled out). I was completely developed before I got mine.
Anecdote: I got my period at 14 but was already very tall. I pretty much stopped growing at that point which was fine because 5' 9" at age 14 was enough. lol

Much to my eldests dismay she was an A cup from about 10 and stayed that way. My youngest daughter is 14 and is a D cup as am I. Biology is so fun

LOL! I am a D/DD but I had them before I got mine. My daughter is a runner (xc and track) and I kind of hope she skips that gene bc it's nothing but trouble
I think I was in 6th grade and didn't grow much after that. I'm 5'3. I was always tall for my age until I hit my teens. Most of my immediate and extended family is tall besides my Mom.

I never knew about this correlation - interesting! My period started late at 14 1/2 and I'd always been smallish, my predicted height was 5'3". Between age 15-16 I had a massive growth spurt and ended up at 5'7". I can see how fast it happened through my group dance photos - we were always lined up with the tallest in the middle and tapering down by height on each side. I was always one of the little ends. But in the years I was 15 and 16 I was the tall one in the middle.
I'm so curious how tall DD will be, my H is 6'5" so I expect she'll be taller than I am. She started out in the 50ish percentiles for height but had jumped into the 70th at her 4 yr check and has grown at least an inch in the few months since then.
I started my period in mid-6th grade and I know I was 5' that year because we did a class project on height (bell curve and all that). I stopped growing in 8th grade and topped out at 5'4.5". I'm not tall but I did add those 4.5" after I started.

It's so interesting. I mean, I know there is scientific reasoning behind it and it's all based on hormones but I wonder if the lack of growth is more correlated to age versus starting menstruation. Like, if the average girl begins at 13 and females typically stop growing at 14, is that more the reason for only growing 2"? I am probably wrong because science and all but I do wonder. DD has a couple friends who started this year too and they are teeny tiny and it's hard to believe a full grown female at that height, considering their parents and siblings size. Who knows.
