I just heard that and I'm trying to remain calm. Supposedly she's doing well, but damn do we need to get a new administration in 2020 (and a new senate, too).
We need to start talking about her recurring bouts of cancer whenever bickering about the Democratic primary happens. I became resigned a month ago to voting for Biden, but I will do it. Can't afford for the SC to go further right!
At this point, I assume she probably has tiny bits of cancer throughout her abdomen. She knows it, her doctors know it, and she's getting checked super frequently so they can pounce as soon as they see anything. But in the end, this is a losing proposition. :-(
She beat it in 2009. Please God let her beat it again
I know she did. And I'm hoping. But the odds of that are... well, they aren't good.
I admit I'm being more cynical than usual as pancreatic cancer is what killed our former executive director (6 months from diagnosis to passing) earlier this year.
My dad passed shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, so since then, I have been active in supporting PanCan and all of that because the stats on this particular cancer are grim. So it is nice to see that she is defying the odds...for now. Reading this, and then there is Alex Trebek who is apparently also doing well after his diagnosis makes me feel like maybe the stats aren't so dire (even though I know that isn't how this works).
She just needs to hang on for another 1.5 years...hopefully.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Regarding RBG hanging in there...our buddy Mitch was more than happy to hold an open seat until the 2016 election. What was it, 9 months? So really, as long as we make it to February, I'm sure he'll hold the seat for the 2020 election decision.
RIGHT MITCH? That's the new policy during election years, if I recall correctly. I'm sure Merrick Garland can refresh my memory on the specifics.

IT IS THE WORST.
She won’t be around for long. Five year survival rate is 9%.
Every time a news alert with RBG in the title flashes up on my phone, my heart jumps into my throat. As much as I adore her work on the bench, I want to get to January 2021, get a Dem administration in place, and for her to retire, safe in the knowledge that someone will be appointed to carry her torch.

The important thing to remember about pancreatic ca. is that the survival rate is so low in part because it’s so sneaky that it usually isn’t diagnosed until it has progressed quite a bit. Anecdotal, but of my friends that had it (thanks to being part of the cancer survivor community, I unfortunately know quite a few who have had it), those whose first bout with cancer was pancreatic were diagnosed late and did not fare well. However, those who previously had another cancer and therefore were being monitored closely had the pancreatic cancer diagnosed quite early and are doing fine years later. I’m crossing everything that can be crossed that in RBG’s case, given her history, that this latest round was caught extremely early and she falls into that 9% category.

I know. We’ve lost two family friends and my grandfather to pancreatic cancer in the last 10 years. One family friend lasted four years post diagnosis bc it was caught very early. But it wasn’t a good quality of life at all.

Mitch McConnell has already said he would fill a Supreme Court seat vacancy in 2020 if one arose. Which shouldn't surprise anyone, but it surprises me a little that he doesn't at least PRETEND to care about fairness.

Ugh. So it’s a reoccurrence, with possible metastasis to the lungs? Or, perhaps it’s actually nueroendocrine tumor, which is manageable if you catch each one in time, but overall, not good. One of my favorite Twitter oncologists also has NET and a friend from HS passed from it, at 44. Yeah, purely speculation at this point.
Our only chance is to keep the house, win back the Senate, eliminate the filibuster, and capture the white house. The end. She won't live forever, and neither will all the others.
