Looks like the original post was deleted. She said she was going straight to ivf but the doctor mentioned she could do iui and was wondering what to do.
Depends on your diagnosis and history. I was unexplained, never had any pregnancies despite 5 years of unprotected sex, and my RE thought it was not worth trying more than two IUIs, and was also open to going straight to IVF if we preferred. I wanted to give something less invasive a shot first, but after the 2 rounds of IUI didn't work, was anxious and ready to move on to IVF.
My insurance doesn't cover anything - no meds, no IUI, no IVF etc.
For IUI it depends on your diagnosis. Generally the success rates are low to begin with and around 15% if you have no issues. It goes down from there. If you have any male factor you're pretty much better off going straight to IVF since that takes the success down to under 10%. I wasted way to much money and time doing IUI's.... We did 3 and that was because I didn't want to move to IVF. IUI is certainly a LOT easier. It's all an emotional rollarcoaster but I find IVF to be much harder emotionally than IUI's.

Same for us. We should have just skipped it altogether.

I agree. But, I needed to know if the IUIs would work and it took three failed IUIs to move on, emotionally. By then I was ready to do whatever it took to give us the best chance for success.

Not myself, but my brother and sister in law did IUI without result then IVF that resulted in a healthy pregnancy. They had one embryo left that they transferred in hopes of a sibling and it didn't work. They decided to do IUI while saving up for additional IVF because it was much more reasonably priced for them, and they got pregnant. Their RE told them "I can't believe this worked!" They felt a little bit of "why did you recommend doing it if you were confident it wouldn't work?!" But it saved them doing another round of IVF.
