What does H&G think about colorful vanities?

DH and I are meeting with the designer to select our new vanity tomorrow. We've both been bookmarking anything that strikes our fancy on Houzz, and while we have different tastes, we've both bookmarked a bunch of colorful vanities... 

We made some bold color choices in our living room and I'm really happy with how they came out, but I'm a little worried about how they'll play out in a bathroom. For one, a bathroom is so much more permanent, for two, I feel like if we have a bolder choice for a vanity, we'll be forced into either playing it safer with other choices like tile, or limiting our options. Every project we've done in the past, we've gone with stained wood vanities/cabinets.  

So what says H&G?  FWIW, our bathroom is basically a huge bowling alley. I don't know exact dimensions off the top of my head, but it's like 15"x8" wide, with the vanity running along the long wall. The current vanity is something like 90" and we'll be replacing with a similar size.

I like it! I think as Long as you like it is great! Honestly all bathrooms seem to be dated in 10 years so you might as well pick something you love.

I think it's nice as long as you think YOU'LL still like it in 5-10 years, but also think you can get a similar effect with less commitment from a very colorful rug. :-)

A painted vanity can be repainted much more easily than tile can be switched out so I think it’s a great way to add some color.

I am anti rugs in bathrooms. I find them yucky and they’re a pain to vacuum. We have a bath mat or towel for stepping out, but that’s about it.

But I get where you’re going with it.

Two on each side! We also have recessed lights in the ceiling.

We finalized the vanity today! White for the hutch, a blue for the base. Counters are TBD, we’re going to use a remnant quarts if possible.

Tentative demo date is for the second week of October... we have a lot of things to do soon!

And I was way off, the bathroom is only 5 feet wide. But super long.

When we were living with our 80's bathroom before the reno, I painted the vanity navy blue.  We lived with it for between 5-10 years, and I didn't tire of it in the context it was in.  

When it came time to pick out our new materials though, we went for stained cherry for the cabinets, and neutral tile with the exception of a very small amount of accent tile (a 3" band in the backsplash and the niche in the shower).  The walls coordinate with the accent tile, but that's just paint.

I would be ok with doing some kind of color, but probably nothing trendy/crazy bold.  Something like... navy.  Lol.  There's plenty of textiles in a bathroom for big impact, like shower curtain, towels, and bath mat, that are way easier to change out even than paint.  I have painted cabinets in our bathroom and kitchen, as well as two bookcases and from that I have learned that yes, it's just paint, but it's also a PITA to change.

I'll try to get a pic tonight- it's really hard to get a decent angle in there!

I'm strongly considering it for our half bath reno that we're planning. It's small and could be a way to give the room some pop without going too bold on the floors or especially the walls. So I say go for it!

Susie can you tell me the make of your bathroom vanity? You ordered it right? Sort of custom?

I've been looking online at what's available and I'm just not finding things I like. I mean, I like the stuff online, but I'm looking for a vanity that's not really in style now - like traditional but not 1990s fussy. I'm thinking a medium tone wood and something that looks like a piece of furniture, hopefully w/some open storage on the bottom. I found a few inspiration pics on Houzz. There are a few online options but nothing I'm gaga about.

I fucking adore them. I was too terrified to do colorful cabinets in my kitchen but am regretting not doing so in our downstairs bath. I say go for it!
