So I posted earlier this week about our missing pool guy. So just before he disappeared he estimated the job at an astronomical price. So we cut the job by about 1/3, and I started calling other places.
I found one guy who actually showed up when he said he would. I reviewed everything carefully with him, and he promised a quote by this morning. I was bracing myself based on the other quote... and it came in at 1/4 of what I expected. Like, I took the original, cut it by 1/3, and this guy still came in at 75% less than expected.
So now I can’t decide if the first guy was screwing us, or if the second guy has no idea what he’s doing.
Sorry for the TMI... I finally got some answers to my stomach issues yesterday. I was evaluated by a physical therapist yesterday and it turns out that I have outlet dysfunction. Yep, it's just what it sounds like - I can't poop right. My muscles aren't coordinating properly to push it out. The PT is very confident that she can help me out, which will be with abdominal massage and relaxation. Sounds good to me! Unfortunately, I can't in to start PT for two weeks. But she gave me some homework to work on. Apparently there is a right way and a wrong way to poop. Who knew?
I also decided that I am getting a new SUV by the end of the year. This will give me plenty of time to pay off our van, get my car detailed so I can get the best offer, and do some shopping.
I took my GRE yesterday. Preliminary results were good. Hopefully that translates to the the official score. I am applying for grad school for the spring. Possibly the summer.
DS is becoming more and more independent. He can now, put away his laundry, pick up his room, clean his spot at the table. He can also take a shower from start to finish by himself, brush his teeth, buckle and unbuckle himself. He can get his own snack and water to drink. The next thing I want him to do is turn on the TV to watch cartoons in the morning. I don't like being woken up at 6 for TV time when his sister sleeps until 7.

I just booked flights for our spring break trip to WDW. Flying Frontier, but we moved up our departure date to Wednesday so that the kids can fly free (at least on the way down, we had to pay for their return flight). Plus the flights are direct, so we're there in 3 hours and don't have to worry about layovers or missing a connecting flight. We also got to pick seats (I did pay a bit more up front for bags and seats) and most seats were still available, so we got the nice seats up front with extra foot room. And best of all...we don't have to drive!! We will have to find a hotel for two more nights, but now we have two more guaranteed pool/relax days in sunny FL!

I thought we had things heading in a better direction with dD1’s teacher but he is evidently sharing news stories I don’t feel are age appropriate with the class. A) the kids now think he can call the cops on them if they misbehave and B) since the supposed reason they miss recess half the time is not enough instructional time, maybe you should shut your trap and focus? I know more about the man’s life and hobbies and yet the above-mentioned recess issue plus she’s had one spelling test in almost 7 weeks.
I sent a very calm, to the point email. If I don’t feel satisfied with the response or he blows me off, I’ll be in the office of the elementary dean on Monday.
My husband and I are having a very hard time balancing work-life-kids since I went back full time a couple months ago. Who knew that extra ten hours a week made such a difference? We are fighting a lot. I am tired.

librarychica, I am sorry to hear about continued issues with your DD1's teacher and work-life balance issues. It really can be challenging when both parents work FT, and 10 hours can totally make a difference. (I work FT and I handle about 85% of the daily kid stuff and basic daily things at home (dinner, dishes). Many nights after I get home from work, I'm going somewhere or doing something until bedtime, and I'm exhausted when I get in bed.) Would you want to/be able to go back to part time?

DH's contract, which was supposed to end tomorrow, got extended till mid-October. The director also said he really likes the job DH is doing and will look around the department and see if there's a permanent spot for him. Yay!
I'm flying back home today. I've felt very "blah" this trip. I really disliked being away from the kids. I feel like DD is growing up so fast and I'm missing it. Given that I'm travelling for a full week pretty much every 3 weeks from now till December, it's not a good feeling.
librarychica, that is rough. When I took on my new Job my DH didn't seem to realize that now my job was just as important as his. It took me breaking down on him for him to see how hard things have been. I just lost it on him one day. Since then he has picked up his slack and is now pulling his weight again. I hate that it came to that, but it was necessary.
librarychica, working 30 hours is my dream (if I could keep health insurance and all my PTO and go back to full time whenever I want), which I don't think I could have it all my way so I haven't asked. Plus I took on more responsibility. But in my mind working 8:45-3 would be the perfect hours M-F. I get the kids on the bus at 8:15 and have a half hour commute.
DD has a cold. She doesn't want to do the jog-a-thon tomorrow because it is supposed to rain and she doesn't want to be stuck running in the rain and being wet and cold all day.
It is 9am and I've called my property management company at work to report a loud party by the upstairs tenant. You can hear them across the street and I can make out every word that is being said. I'm by myself today and if this keeps up I'm going to just say screw it and go home.
librarychica, DH and I go through that every year in January when I go back to working tons of hours. I usually have to have a full on meltdown for him to get that he needs to try and help out. This year I'm starting a cleaning service in December to help deal with the weekly house chores.

DDOT: Beau sent me a real estate listing this morning of a beautiful house with shops that he could run his business out of. My first thought was that I would love to live there with him and would be willing to put my house profit money down on the house. Then I immediately realized I'm crazy since we've only been dating 3 months. I need to slow my roll!
xctsclrx , even if they are not super great, still apply. There is a movement to either use the GRE as part of a holistic framework or to drop the requirement totally. When I look at grad school applicants, the GRE is only one piece of the puzzle. I would suggest spending some time on your statement of purpose, and getting that dialed in.
covergirl82 , Make sure to print out copies of everything. We flew them to WDW last time and they lost our seat assignments. I ended up paying for new ones the day of, and then fighting with them to finally get a refund for it. That said, we are flying them again in December, but just an FYI.
librarychica, I am having the same issue with DD's Algebra teacher. She says he spends most of the class trying to give life/character lessons to the class or talking about himself and then they don't have time to finish their work, so it's homework. After hearing him go on and on about is philosophy of teaching and what kids need in life in general at open house, I believe it. It's math, not lifeskills class, stick to it.
In the math front with DS, he starts freaking out around 9 last night because he lost his laptop charger and doesn't know the password to use his sister's laptop to do his AP Algebra pre test for homework which is due today. His test is today. He is making a C in the class, so I am assuming a 0 and a bad grade will make that a D. I had hoped that he would do well on this test and pull that grade up. DH was barking at him before bed on going on about being grounded and then I have to drive him to school and I am getting madder by the minute. He thought he was going to his club meeting this morning. No, you are going to buy a charger, get the password and do your freaking homework. Clubs are extra.
I have gotten a text that the charger was purchased, he was using the 30 minutes before school, 1st and 2nd period to study (one of those is ceramics so whatever), so maybe he can pull this out of his back end.
My mom made DD do her homework yesterday! Mom also asked why does Tu/Th homework have to be so much more intense than M/W homework? I explained to my mom the time frame and that it is a lot easier to eat in the car than it is to writing homework so hopefully things start changing.
I actually don't think DD gets all that much homework and if she just sits down and does it should take less than 15 minutes to do plus they get homework head start time in class so most of the time it is already done. We have the read 20 minutes per day thing too and I screwed that notion back in K and I feel as long as it averages out to 20 minutes a day by the end of the week it is good in my mind. This coming from the kid who read 600 minutes in 7 days last week.
rere, I hope your DS did well on his test. Why couldn't he log into his account from any computer? We don't get computers sent home at all in our district even high school.
mommyatty , yeah we don't do everything. My kids are good readers, and they like to read for fun. I am not going to make it a chore for them. They read every day at bedtime, but I made it fun for them, so they want to do it. I never have to ask. And I don't care how many minutes it is. Same with sight words etc. Since they are good readers, they already know all the sight words. Another trick is listen to an audio book for drop off and pick up. That counts for reading. Our school is only a mile away, and that still takes about 7 minutes that they get every day for reading times the number of school days it adds up.
They just do their one math worksheet a day for 3rd grade, and 2 worksheets per week for 1st.
ETA- I realize I answered you in the wrong thread lol.

In high school-not sure about below because then we were private- they are all issued laptops. My book fees were $440 which included the lap top. He said his teacher uses a website that she loaded the pretest to, but it required a password. He had it password saved on his laptop, so he couldn't remember it when it when he had to put it in on his sister's.
