We purchased a home over a year ago and after spending 13 months between architect plans + construction, we finally moved in. The house is a 1940s colonial that was basically dilapidated when we bought it. We ended up taking the whole thing down to the studs + added on a kitchen/great room / master suite.
It has been fun to unpack things, feel a little more settled and not worry about house decisions anymore Here are some of the photos from our contractor:
Thank you! I was very happy with myself that the tile is polished porcelain even though I think it kind of looks like marble. The countertop was a remnant and I found the mirrors at homegoods. You can’t see the tub in that photo but it’s from Wayfair. Had to take wins where I could find them 😂
I love your cabinet color and kitchen pendants! Mind sharing source for both?
The cabinet color in the kitchen is repose gray from SW (although the cabinet company matched it using their paint). The pendants are the visual comfort Katie acorn pendants and I purchased them from Lighting New York with a 20% off coupon from their site.
WOW! Congratulations, indeed! I think I would've gone nuts working on the house so long, but looks like it was totally worth it!
Did you design and pick out everything yourself or did you work with a professional?
Yeah, I almost went crazy. We didn’t start working with an architect until we closed on the house, and the whole process with that took a lot longer than we thought. We started construction in March and that part surprisingly moved quickly.
I mostly picked things out using inspiration on Pinterest and reading discussion boards on Houzz. My contractor was great about helping recreate things I found in photos, like the wainscoting up the wall of the stairs. He also has a designer who was great if I needed to bounce a design question off of, but her job was mostly to be with me at vendor meetings to make sure the correct items were being ordered.
I actually tried to work with a designer, but I wanted to do more of a consultation and not a full design of the whole house. That’s not a very big job for them and it was hard to find someone to help me.

You are very lucky, my builders were definitely not like this. You did a fantastic job and I hope you love every second in your new home!
