1) At what point would you go to the doctor for a cold? Ds3 has had one for about a week - we saw the doctor at the 3 day mark (for his 4month well check) and it has now been 4 more days. He’s happy & doesn’t have a fever.
2) I forgot what symptoms to look for after starting solids. We are doing avocado (per GO advice) and I think he’s doing ok (no rash or digestive issues)...runny nose and excess drool aren’t reactions right? I had been attributing those to the cold and teething.

1. I probably wouldn't go in if he's acting fine and no fever, personally. I also tend to avoid the doctor, lol.
2. I wouldn't say those are reactions. Big ones are difficulty breathing, hives, swollen tongue or face, vomiting, redness on skin where the food has touched, upset tummy (would probably get really fussy and possibly have diarrhea).
I want C to start cleaning up his messes. Put books on the shelves, toys in their cubes, etc. I'm assuming the how is basically by having him help me and sing the clean up song? But when? Before bed is the most logical, but that seems like a gateway to a stall tactic.

I make mine do it after school, before they get an episode of tv as I cook dinner.

My DS didn't start the stall tactics until closer to 2.5/3. He thought it was super fun to clean up with H and me. We sang the clean up song and did it right before bedtime. Any earlier for a clean up time and he'd just get it back out again as there's time to play between dinner and bath/bed.

We do it before bedtime. Luckily DS hasn’t really figured out stalling yet.

We clean up before our bedtime snack. DS is 21 months, and we don't expect him to clean it all by himself (not that I imagine you would either), but he does do the vast majority of the cleaning. Singing the clean up song actually helps 😂
I probably wouldn't take him in either, namasteak, if he's happy and doesn't have a fever. I feel like for my kid's first 18 months of life he constantly had a runny nose, lol.

We do clean up whenever toys get OOC or a natural break. If he has trouble with “pick up your toys” I break it down by color.

Here's a question that I'm sure has been asked before but I don't feel like searching right now...
My 3 year old is still in a crib and has not tried to climb out, so we haven't wanted to rock the boat and move him. He's also the type of kid that really needs contained, so I'm afraid of giving him free reign of his room, ha. But, when he's ready to go to bed he doesn't usually give us too many problems, thankfully.
Anyway, when traveling or staying at either grandparents', he previously was sleeping in a PNP (I know, he's probably old for it but he's tiny). He can definitely climb out of that now and has done so while on vacation. He'll go to sleep in it fine, but if hes up early or something he gets right out to come get us, so it seems kind of pointless now. We're going to be traveling in November a few times, so I'm wondering if I continue with the PNP anyway, or if there is another solution - just go straight to a bed? Or has anyone tried the inflatable toddler beds? Or is there something else I haven't thought of?

My kids were out of cribs at that age but did fine with inflatable beds.
My mom actually got a play tent with blankets on the floor (bc they couldn’t figure out a sleeping bag) and they really liked that !

We slept one parent in the bed with a kid when DS1 and DS2 outgrew the PnP. Parent on one side and then stuffed pillows under the fitted sheet on the other side to keep the kid from falling out.
You could also try sleeping bag on a yoga mat on the floor. If you're in a hotel I would probably put a blanket under the sleeping bag (over the yoga mat), but that's only because I'm never sure the floors are clean and my kids are rollers. My older boys (7 and 5) love sleeping in their sleeping bags.

We TRY to do it after the mess is made and before he moves on to the next thing. So if he is playing in his kitchen and scatters toys all around but then moves over to the toy chest and starts playing with his cars, we first clean up the kitchen stuff together singing the song and making it a game.
namasteak, I echo what others say--I would not worry at this point re: a cold. We started solids at 4 months as well and just waited 2 days between feeding him things. We started mostly with rice cereal and infant oatmeal mixed with formula and quickly moved into mixing it with pureed fruits and sweet veggies. Within a month I think we moved entirely to BLW and were giving him whole pieces of pizza or bagels, string beans, etc.

We just moved my almost 3.5 yr old DS to a twin bed from a crib last month. Not because he climbed out but because he was getting too long/big. I've been pleasantly surprised with how few bedtime shanagins DS has pulled in the 5 weeks since we got him his twin bed.
We are traveling for a week on Saturday and are staying at an airbnb. He'll either sleep in a regular bed or on a mattress on the floor. We'll figure it out when we get there.
When we travel to my parents' house next month he'll sleep on a cot or pad on the floor. Maybe a blow up mattress. We'll see what solution will work best.

New moms, what somewhat frivilous gift would you like for your newborn? We're going to meet our nephew and would love to bring something other than diapers. So far I was thinking Hanna Andersson pjs, super soft stuffed animal or blanket, gift card to nicer clothing store so she can pick out her own stuff, etc - looking for ideas though. Preferably something I can Amazon Prime since I am running out of time

We use a Regalo My Cot (it’s on Amazon) for travel and I recommend it to everyone. My kid sleeps great on her toddler bed but is terrified of a big mattress on the floor. The cot has been a lifesaver for visiting friends/family, as well as vacations.
beerlover, we just bought the cot jordylee mentioned for travel with our 3 year old. She sleeps in a big bed at home, but doesn't need one when we travel. She's used to sleeping on cots at daycare for nap, so I figure it should work fine. Once a kid is regularly climbing out of a PNP I don't think I'd continue to put them in it for fear they'd hurt themselves on the way out.

We do what I call one song clean up every night after dinner. My kids are older, but everyone assembles in the living room and someone picks a song and we blast it through a speaker and everyone picks up stuff for the duration of the song. I think you could do after dinner pretty easily.

Are you somewhere cold? I am not a new Mom and had a summer baby, but I LOVED my bundleme when DS was in an infant seat.

I did not know that babies only saw in black and white at the beginning but we were gifted two black and white books for infants and they made tummy time so great! We even made photo copies and taped them around the changing table for something for him to see. I give this to all new parents now; it is the first thing I saw him really interact with.
I have seen other people post about that here and it looks great in my opinion. I think we will likely do that when the time comes. Also, solidarity for keeping your kid in the crib for so long. S is only 2.2 but he has no desire to get out of the crib. He BARELY fits in the PNP any more, but again, no issue with trying to climb out of it! People keep asking me when I will move him to his own bed and I tell them to back off, lol.
hamster, I've been having DD clean up before naps, bed, or when we're going to do an activity like playdoh, painting, etc. The cleaning song really worked and she usually sings it as she's cleaning.
beerlover, DD really liked the inflatable bed and I think it helped her transition into a big bed but she's really tall and couldn't fit into a PnP at 2.5 anymore. The inflatable is a bit time consuming to put up/take down and it takes up a lot of floor space. So if you're fine with him climbing out of the PnP and he can still fit in it, I'd keep using it.
My question: When do you/did you start teaching your child to read? Any books or program recommendations? DD turns 4 in February, loves books and library time, she knows the alphabet, numbers visually to 20, colors, we're working on months/days of the week/weather/time, and I writing through activity books I found labeled for preschool. She stays home with me full time.

We just started teaching our DD to read, and she'll be 4 in January. It's a bit more complicated for us, since she's learning in both French and English, so we try not to make it a big deal about it - just taking any opportunity to sound out simple words with her, and if she loses interest at any point, we stop. She also goes to preschool but her class hasn't started learning to read yet (she's the oldest). No specific resources but Hop on Pop is a good book for simple words, with lots of repetition.

Once they knew all their letters, we worked on making sure they knew letter sounds. Once they knew all of those, I'd start picking random words when we were reading and asking them if they knew it (with books they had memorized), and we'd sound out all the sounds and put them together for the words. From there, they really started sounding out words on their own...in their books, and things we'd see while out like stop signs and signs at stores were stuff they'd try to read too. I'm pretty sure this was around 4 for both my kids.
