RE: Subpoenas - I'm all over the place. I want them to force a testimony, but also what good would that forced testimony be if they just refuse to answer questions. If they start arresting people, the uproar over that would overshadow any other news/inquiries. Plus, the Justice Department would probably release the people who are being held anyway, even if they have no authority to do so.
The "they're tallying up points of obstruction" comment above really resonated with me on why they're "not doing anything" right now.
I understand the political calculus here. Republicans had show trials over Benghazi for yearsssss. Imagine the shit that goes down if Democrats arrest the Republican VP, even if it’s for absolutely legit reasons. It’s yet another line that gets crossed.
I would love nothing better than to see Pence hauled off, but it martyrs him. And he doesn’t need any more of that. Make their non-compliance the reason to remove them. It’s kind of genius. “Stop hitting yourself” to the max degree.
I suspect there isn't much to it except that according to the Brits, she supposedly assured investigators there that she would remain there and then left. So the British media is all over this and Trump got involved because he's Donald Trump and loves being the hero in front of the media.
I agree with this. She had (has?) diplomatic immunity. Trump's only in on it because he wanted to play the hero.
It’s been a few weeks since he’s had an opportunity to grin and give a thumbs up in a photo with the parents of a tragically killed son or daughter.
I read that the reason the dems aren't using the courts to enforce these subpoenas is because they don't want to let the administration bog them down in any more litigation than necessary. They are just going to add all these things to the counts of obstruction. In other words, they are choosing to focus on getting Trump out of office rather than focusing on trying to get to the bottom of it.
I don't know if I necessarily agree that this is the best approach, but I also can understand why they are doing it.
I'll be interested to see what they do with Pence though. I want them to push the envelope on him.
But what litigation? They don't show, they ask a judge to issue a bench warrant ( it is not like the defense can argue ), arrest them and throw their ass in jail for contempt. There literally is nothing to litigate and contempt is the only charge where someone can be held indefinitely. This administration has shit on most laws and it is bullshit that the Dems do nothing about it when Congress has subpoena powers. I just don't get this line of thinking.
On another board someone was going on about how congressional subpoenas essentially aren't real subpeonas because they can't really be informed the same way as other subpeonas. So then I read the article below and I'm still not 100% sure, but it doesn't seem like anyone is going to end up in jail for ignoring a congressional subpeona based on how I'm reading this. True or not?

They were just talking about this letter on MSNBC. I suppose I should not be surprised but come on! Did anyone try to revise/edit this first or do they just let him send out whatever he wants?
Democratic congressional leaders said they walked out of a White House meeting on Syria on Wednesday following what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called a “meltdown.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., described the meeting as more of a “nasty diatribe” than a “dialogue.” He said Trump called Pelosi a “third-rate politician.” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., added that he had “never” seen a president “treat so disrespectfully a coequal branch” of government.

Oh, there's no way this was his first draft. Someone looked at that shit and made the barest attempt to correct his absurd grammar and spelling. They probably deleted "you can make a good deal" a few times too.

You can't do these seemingly simple policy things for an ego maniac.
Of course they didn't edit it because he told them to send it just like that! And I'm here to tell you if I worked in the WH, I would have sent it just like that too. I'm not doing anything to help his image when he thinks there is nothing wrong with his image.

ETA: Trump actually tweeted out this pic, thinking it made *him* look good.
Apparently in that meeting Pelosi called him out directly for acquiescing to Putin. Honestly I wonder if House needs to slow down its investigation a bit to make the case that all of this shit is connected.

According to the CNN article, Pelosi said actually Trump called her a "third GRADE politician." lolllllllllll

The Senator interviewed said how there was discussion about the GOP sticking together because the choice is to be either "a traitor or a patriot."
Except for them the question is whether they are a traitor/patriot to the party, so they are not going to break no matter what.
I have known that is the case but it is depressing to see it laid out so explicitly. Not one of them is willing to 0ut the country first and have some principles beyond staying in power.

I am sure it was not the first draft but the fact that this is what they came up with in the end is embarrassing.

Nancy Pelosi made this photo her banner picture on Twitter!

Considering the accuracy of his projections, his meltdown must have been pretty ugly.
“Nancy Pelosi needs help fast! There is either something wrong with her “upstairs,” or she just plain doesn’t like our great Country. She had a total meltdown in the White House today. It was very sad to watch. Pray for her, she is a very sick person!”
I do love how crazy Pelosi makes him. He has no idea what to do with a woman of power like her.
