1. They are both going to be ninjas. Their choice. I’m happy they will match! 2. Yes! And fairly easy costumes, so awesome! 3. We go to a friend’s house. The dads take the kids out while the moms drink wine and answer the door. It’s really fun!
1. DD has chosen to skip Halloween this year. She has major dental work going on that limits her candy choices to straight chocolate as she can't have anything sticky. Her witches costume from last year still fits so if she changes her mind last second she can go out.
2. I think that is cute. pst I had to look the characters up as we don't Minecraft
3. Nothing fun and we may or may not even hand out candy this year. We've attended some carnivals in the past but we've aged out of most of them.

1. See Question #2. I think this is a pretty good idea, DD (10) was struggling on a costume idea so we came up with this. DS wanted to be IronMan (or somewhere along those lines), so I kind of feel like we are coercing him into this other idea.
2. Hopefully you guys will give me some input!
3. Halloween is a HUGE deal in our 'hood. Our neighbors have been doing a pig pickin the last 2 years & that's always fun. Lots of yummy food & adult beverages. there are a Ton of kids trick or treating. Last year one of neighbors did an awesome "haunted garage" and they went all out on it as in it was not for little kids to go b/c it was too scary!
1. DD1 is Audrey, DD2 is Mal, and I am Evie from Descendants 3. Although their BFF is now also going to be Evie, so they're trying to convince me to switch to Uma. Not happening. Evie is way easier.
2. I like that idea! (Also had to look it up)
3. We go trick or treating with a big crew from school in one of the best neighborhoods in town. Every couple houses we ended up adding to the group last year, it was a ton of fun. XMIL wants to throw a party in the yard for all the kids after trick or treating this year, so we'll see about that. XH already said he's not sticking around for that, but we do all park at her house so I feel like we have to do it...
1.DD is going to be a ghost. DS is going to be either Daniel Tiger or a dragon. If he dresses up at all, anyways. Last year he protested.
2. I don't know what those things are. I'm no help.
3. We did the Boo fest at the local kiddie amusement park this weekend, and we'll do the usual parades at school, but that's about it beyond trick or treating. In past years, we always did Trick-or-Drink with neighbors we knew, but our current neighborhood is on the lame side.
1. 13 year old will be a lifeguard (she just wanted an excuse to buy another hoodie), 10 year old will be a flapper girl, 7 year old will be Venom (he’s soooooo excited about this!).
2. I don’t really have an opinion. . I’ve seen other Minecraft costumes and they seem cute and easy so why not? Unless the kid wants to be something else, it seems good.
3. My brother and his wife throw a big Halloween party, our neighborhood does a little trunk or treat and we have a Halloween night party where we feed a bunch of people and then go trick or treating and DH decorates the porch and calls it the haunted porch. He gets really excited about it every year.

1. DS is going to be Rusty from Rusty Rivets
2. I don't know anything about Minecraft
3. The school has a harvest festival the Saturday before Halloween and we go TOT on Halloween. My personal tradition is apple cider and raspberry filled powdered donuts on Halloween.
DD1 is going as Maleficent. DD2 wanted to dress up as one of the Kratt brothers from Wild Kratts. I managed to find a “creature power” costume from the show. No one is going to get it. I told DH that I would write him a script to explain it when people ask.
DH and I really aren’t into Halloween, so no real traditions. I’m tossing around asking a family from school to join us. They live on a busy, windy street with no street lights, and we live in cul-de-sac neighborhood. I just have to get over my weird anxiety and ask.

1. A skeleton grim reaper guy (DS 7) and a dragon (DD 5).
2. Yes I think that's cute! DD and DS won't allow me any input into their costumes anymore. I do get veto power over DS' costumes - I tell him nothing too scary or gross.
3. Our neighborhood does a halloween parade, DS' karate studio does a party and our church does a trunk or treat. A friend normally has a party, but this year she's running a ragnar the weekend before halloween so they're not doing it this year. We do enjoy halloween. This year with the encouragement of the kids, DH and I did buy PB&J Costumes this year.

1) My boys are going to be a cowboy/sheriff, alligator, and a dinosaur. We're going to a family costume party this year so DH is also going to be a cowboy and I'm dressing up as the green M&M.
2) Sounds cute!
3) We are going to a Halloween party at a friend's this weekend then ToT on the actual day. DS3 is 2.5 this year so it will be interesting to see how far he makes it for ToT. I'll probably bring the wagon. The past couple years I have taken the older two boys to a trunk or treat, but we're skipping it this year. The event has gotten too big to the point of it not being worth it to the kids. For me it's extra money I'd rather not spend. Plus most of the candy that gets passed out is stuff the kids don't/can't eat (lots of Dots last year) that I end up donating.
1. They both want to be the same costume as last year. Yay mom saves money! A British Red Coat, and a My Little Pony. We've never been into matching or family wide costumes. In fact, I hate dressing up, and when the kids were young and DH was traveling I hated Halloween. I don't straight up hate it anymore. It's OK.
2. I think it is a cute idea, but I don't care if my kids match or not.
3. We used to do Trunk or Treat at the daycare, but we aged out of that. Last year my mom was coming the weekend before Halloween, so we did the trick or treating with the businesses because it was a nice day, and she never got to spend Halloween with them. That was fun, but I am not sure I want to do that every year. We usually trick or treat with our neighbors, and they have lots of friends or mutual friends so the group keeps getting bigger. But they arrange it, so I try to stay out of it until I hear from them. I think she wears her costume to dance one week too.... And school has a party. I keep forgetting things because it is a lot.
This year DD has a Girl Scout party, so I guess she wears her costume for that? DS doesn't have anything. I could do Boo at the Zoo, because we have a membership this year, but I haven't really even thought about it, so I am guessing we are not going to make it. My life right now is just trying to make it through soccer and Scouts, so anything extra is truly extra.

1. DS is going as a football player from our favorite college team. (DH splurged and bought DS a game-worn jersey, but it will fit him for many years, and he can wear it when we go to that team's football games (we try to go to one a year).) DD is going as a "butterfly fairy." ETA: DD is now going as Mal from Descendants.
2. I don't know Minecraft characters, but I do think it's cute when siblings or families share a costume theme.
3. The past many years, we would meet at one of DH's cousin's house and have dinner and then go trick-or-treating. Our kids are a little older than theirs, and now really want to TOT with friends. Our church has a harvest party each year (usually the evening of the last Sunday in October), so we'll go to that as well.
mae0111, DD would totally dig your DD2 Wild Kratt costume. She is really into the Wild Kratts and Cyperchase to the point I bought the PBS kids subscription through Prime so she stopped watched the same season over and over.
mae0111- ASK them!! I never understood group Halloween outings, but my kids have so much more fun going with friends, and it doesn’t feel like such a miserable drudge to take them when you’re with fun adults who can laugh at the same things you do. Plus more adult eyes on them when they’re running around in the street helps my anxiety. This hardcore introvert is a total convert.
1. DS is over Halloween, but still like the candy. DD is doing some eye mask with the bottom half painted like a skeleton, I really don't even know what she is calling it.
2. All the Minecraft costumes I have seen are cute.
3. We are going camping the weekend before. This is a yearly tradition. There are probably 400 campsites. They decorate, there is trick or treating, hayrides, a carnival, a dance. It is a great time.
Usually on Halloween night, we do trunk or treat and then walk up and down the main street of town. We then get pizza and watch Charlie Brown Halloween. This year, the kids are going to be gone to convention Poor planning if you ask me. DH and I are going to hand out candy at Trunk or Treat and walk down the road to a friends who usually has a fire and soup and have a drink so we won't be too sad.
1. My kids are being characters from "How to Train Your Dragon." I should probably watch one of the movies so I know what's going on. DS1 came up with the idea to be the dragon, but then when we were looking at costumes online he saw one of Hiccup (the boy) that he liked because it was sparkly and involved a sword. Then on her own, DD decided to be Light Fury, the white girl dragon. So we decided that 2-year-old DS2 would be Toothless the dragon.
2. yes, cute!
3. Halloween is a much bigger deal here than when I was a kid growing up on the East coast. Some of it might be that everything is a bigger deal now, but I think part of it is also that the weather is great here, so outdoor celebrations are fun. Some elementary school friends (the in-crowd moms) have a big block party in the afternoon. I didn't want to deal with it last year, with DS2 being so little, but we might go this year. Then we trick or treat early because my kids have early bedtimes. I can already foresee an issue this year because DD will want to run around with her friends, but she's not quite old enough to do it on her own (just turned 7), and the two boys will slow everything down. Our friends and their 2-year-old and baby plan to come to our neighborhood because theirs isn't TOTing-friendly.
sdlaura, We love those movies!!!! They are so cute. We had a family movie nigh a few months ago with the 3rd one and my kids are in high school. Toothless is the cutest.
1. DS (11) wants to be Ramses and convinced DD (7) that she will be an Egyptian cat. I have this weekend to figure out the logistics.
2. I don’t know Minecraft but my kids are obsessed so I think they are good choices
3. We have a parade at the school in the AM. This is our second year in the neighborhood. Last year, we joined a group of neighbors for ToT and were impressed by the festivities. DS has expressed the desire to “keep it low key and just go as a family” this year.
1. Ds1 is going to be Boba Fet. I didn’t realize he was a bad guy as I have a no bad guy rule but am letting it slide. DS2 wanted to be “the white guy” aka R2D2 since he was that last year. He has since changed and wants to be captain America. Last year he protested so I just bought a sweatsuit type of “costume”. 2. Yes those are great ideas!! 3. It’s my bday so we usually head to dinner out and carve a pumpki. There’s also a school event and sometimes go to the pumpkin patch if we have time. We do go tot every year in our neighborhood.
1. Ds1 is going to be Boba Fet. I didn’t realize he was a bad guy as I have a no bad guy rule but am letting it slide. DS2 wanted to be “the whole guy” aka R2D2 since he was that last year. DD1 was pumped to meet Boba Fett at Disneyland this weekend.
We were just invited to a Halloween party. I think it is more for the kids because it is from 4-6pm. However, it does say costumes encouraged, so I guess I would need one. Anything I can make just from my closet with a few accessories from Michaels or other craft type store? No cats or mice- I've been them enough times.
waverly- I ordered a witch’s hat from Amazon and am wearing it with a black knit dress and black sweater. Under it I’m wearing striped orange and black knee socks from Joann Fabric (they were $1) and black Converse. Whole costume was $13, I think. I already had the dress, sweater and sneakers.
waverly, do you still have your cap and gown? Graduate is popular her for the parent set. I've done the witches costume by adding a hat to my black dress and done striped tights with boots. I've also used the same black dress with black leggings and boots but added red butterfly fabric wings and put my hair in high pig tails. Normally I have to dress up for a costume b-day party for one of DD's friends. DH has done construction worker, hunter (camo clothes), and last year was paint ball player (his paint ball gear with mask).
