I LOVE Warren. I LOVE Castro. I love Kamala Harris, but I have to think about it to get the same warm fuzzy feelings. She's not a "warm, fuzzy" person, which is FINE, but it also means that she doesn't come across as engaging as, say, Warren.
I really prefer this poll because I simply do not know yet. I know that sounds stupid, but I bounce back and forth between Harris and Warren as top pick and then Castro and Booker also--neither would be my top choice, but to round out the top 3, I swing between Castro and Booker. I selected Booker as my third pick this week based solely on some NPR pieces I heard recently.

This is the first poll in which I have not voted for Warren. I’ll probably come back around but I am so irritated with her healthcare proposal/lack of clear plan/refusal to explain that yes taxes will go up but oop costs will go down.

It’s irritating. It’s also smart. If she says taxes go up, the GOP has that to use against her. They won’t include the message that overall costs go down.
It’s also irritating AF that the media keeps asking it, even though they know exactly why she’s not answering the way they want.

i disagree. I get “warm fuzzy feelings” for Harris and not for Warren.

Likewise! I picked Harris & Castro, but added Booker this time around because I appreciated how he pointed out Dems only have one shot to make Cheeto a one-term president and that Dems need to get their shit together. I do feel bad that Warren was piled on last night but I don't think she was on top of her game as she normally is.
I can’t take the poll from my phone but leaning Harris and Booker. Booker really impressed me last night (even though he barely spoke). Harris is just perfect and amazing and just comes across as so damn presidential! I’m trying to love Warren but she always seems just a bit less composed to me compared to the others. I don’t remember if she replied at all to the women’s rights question from last night but if she did, her answer didn’t jump out at me. That is my personal top issue so that is what was the most memorable to me from last night.

But there are plenty of ways to say it without literally saying “taxes will go up” that don’t make her sound so cagey. Turn it in to a positive that healthcare expenses for middle class families will go down and you’ll never get a bill so you can budget for the whole year! She could say your new healthcare premium will continue to be paid from your paycheck just like it is now but it will be significantly less and you won’t have any out of pocket costs! I think there HAS to be a way of making her point better. But I also think Medicare for all is a dumb proposal and doomed to fail. It vastly oversimplifies the problems with our current healthcare system and attempts magical solutions. I am convinced the only solution is to completely blow up our current healthcare system and start from scratch which medicare for all does NOT do no matter how many times Warren and Sanders say it does. Just giving everyone Medicare does not address the problem of sky high systematic costs. Medicare pays doctors pennies compared to private insurance. There would be MANY providers who just say “forget it, I’m not taking insurance, you can pay oop if you want to see me” which just brings us back around to rich people being able to get good care and poor people lucky to find someone to see them at all. I think the only thing we can do now until the political will is there to start over is to make incremental changes like strengthening Obamacare-esque provisions.

My favorite candidate in the race is Castro. As much as I want a female candidate, he's my actual favorite. I also love Harris and really like Warren.
I also want Booker and Buttigeig in the race. Not because I want either as president, but I think they each bring something important to the debate stage.

Agreed re: Booker.
I’ve had it with Pete. This newest version who attacks people disingenuously is just shitty.

Absolutely agree. I have always been really lukewarm on him, and I think it's because acts so mansplainy and GOPy.

This is interesting. Care to expand more?
I think it comes from her prosecutorial background. She's polished. She's NOT inauthentic, but I think it might also relate to why people think Trump is intimidated by her - he doesn't know how to crack that. One of her biggest advantages, IMO.
Warren comes across as folksy, high energy... also polished in the sense that she's a great public speaker, just a different presentation, I guess?
It might also be how they are portrayed in the media. Warren is the front runner and is therefore getting a lot of exposure of a lot of different facets of her life and campaign, and Kamala is running a little more in the background. Which is a shame, because I lived in CA when she was running for AG, and she is definitely capable of exciting people!

This. I want to sit down with Harris over a cup of coffee and just talk to her about life. She is so genuine and has a great smile. I get the feeling that she genuinely cares and would be really fun to talk to.
I find Warren’s wholesale adoption of Bernie’s Medicare for All plan to be very frustrating. Obviously she has a lot of policy people on staff. Can they not see the weaknesses in this plan? Is it some kind of loyalty to Bernie thing? Seems like a really bad place to take a pass and not develop her own ideas.

Did you feel like this about HRC?
ETA: What I'm getting at here is that this could be said for a lot of black women in general. While Kamala has a Caribbean and Indian background, she went to an HBCU. She's a member of a black Greek sorority, so her mannerisms in being "polished" are definitely the same as most black women when they have to command attention.
It's a double edged sword. She can't come off as folksy like Warren because no one will take her seriously. Women of color who know their stuff have to hold themselves in a super polished light. And it goes back to other conversations we've had on this board about how black women in particular are extremely cognizant of their dress and how they are perceived. I cannot go meet with people for the 1st time and wear ugly shoes and ill fitting attire. I have to dress the part to be taken seriously 1st.
Kamala isn't going to ever be folksy because she can't afford to be seen that way. If she is, immediately, someone will call into question her intelligence. And I *KNOW* this to be true because the one time I went clean in on some folks around here and used slang, someone chided me for my use of slang and how it made me seem uneducated or some ish like that. (Can't even remember who or what thread; it was eons ago). So, I just wanted to point that out because we're always holding WOC to these higher standards than everyone else.

I'm glad you said something. This has been a discussion with someone women in the activist community here, how much of a mountain Harris has to climb in terms of perception and the substantial media bias in campaign coverage. The campaigns we hear the most about are white candidates. The candidates the cameras seemed to focus on most at the debate were the white candidates. There's a clear bias and we really need to dig into our "why" for seeing candidates of color differently than white candidates and for judging female candidates against the warm and fuzzy metric as well.

Yup. another thing that ticks me off is that she's being criticized for being a prosecutor. So, did we forget that there was an entire era of black folks wanting to go into law so they could change the system? And is it not ok for us to prosecute people who have actually committed crimes? I can't get the knock her down for doing her job thing. everyone ain't Thurgood or A Philip Randolph. There are professions outside of civil rights for POC.
@nitax I assumed that was what you were bringing up, and I don't think she's "too" polished. Its not a criticism. I think she has a different vibe when she's the front runner in a race, but I'm also willing to chalk a lot of it up to her portrayal in the media. And yes, I did feel the same about HRC.
I love Harris and Warren. I still don't know which one I'd vote for between the two if the primary were held today, but I'm not really feeling it from any of the other candidates (other than Castro, but he's in third for me).
I get different vibes from Harris and Warren, but neither of them negative. With Warren, I kind of see the fun grandmother, and with Harris, the best friend. But maybe it has to do with my stage in life.
I like the issues Harris brings up, but I wish she had a stronger polling.

I am really disappointed she’s not doing better. Any other year, I’d be 100% behind Kamala.
