I am looking to start a small book series (nothing 20 books long). Any recommendations? I tend to like mystery (not cozy but not super bloody/ disturbing). I like thrillers, but there has to be some happiness to them. I like some of Karen Robards books because they are thriller with romance, but the last 2 have not been great. I like Lisa Scottoline's stand alones because they are thrillers to a point. No horror.
I like chic lit fiction and romance. But the romance has to have some plot to it rather than a Harlequin type romance. I used to read a lot of Fantasy as a teen, but I get bogged down in all the description. For example, I really liked the Pink Carnation series by Lauren Willig (historical, campy, funny, romance, spies lol). Any suggestions?
I like YA, but sometimes I have to roll my eyes at the maturity level of the characters, so nothing too immature. I liked post apocalyptic, but it's gotten to be too many books on that. Like I liked Lauren Oliver. YA fantasy or fractured Fairy tales like Jaclyn Delamore, Marissa Meyer, Amanda Hocking. Or YA mystery.
Or autobiography/ biography types like Glass Castle, Educated, Hillbilly Elegy, Or celebrity ones.
Also, any suggestions for holiday themed fiction (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas) or Hawaii themed fiction since we are going there?
I'm in a YA fiction phase right now. I love how it's easy to read and entertaining.
The Miss Peregrine's School For Home For Peculiar Children is a weird, fun series. It's 4 books I think?
I'm currently reading the first book in the Mortal Instruments series. Another YA fiction, kind of weird, fantasy series. It's not amazing literature but it's a fun escape.
I'm also currently listing to the Chip and Joanna Gaines book on my commute. It's all about how they started all their businesses and ended up where they are today.
The Bronze Horseman trilogy by Paullina Simons The Plantagenet and Tudor series by Phillipa Gregory The Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard The Divergent series if you haven’t read it already The Hunger Games series if you haven’t read it already The century trilogy by Ken Follett The Kingsbridge trilogy by Ken Follett

There are only 2 books in the series so far (with a 3rd due out next summer) from author Spencer Kope. The first one is called Collecting the Dead and the second is Whispers of the Dead. Mystery/Thriller.
A mystery thriller series I jump into when I’m craving a classic murder mystery is Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta series. She’s a coroner, so it can get a bit too detailed at times, but they are solid characters. The series is a bit older, but other than not having cell phones with them, it has aged pretty ok.
Anyone read the Outlander series? The TV show looks interesting and I am thinking of binge watching this winter, but would like to read the books if they are good.
rere, I've read Outlander. I really like it. It does get bogged down in a million details, so I did skim some parts. I actually like the books better than the TV series. I feel like the series started to get bogged down in politics which to be fair the books did as well, but I don't really remember all of it. I started to get bogged down in season 2. I wonder if it gets better again once they go to America?
rere I’ve been reading and re-reading outlander series for years. It’s like comfort food for me. It does bog down in the details at times, especially in the later books. I think the series is well done and relates really well to the action in the books. I have have fallen behind in the series, because little ears and eyes can’t be watching and DH doesn’t like it as much as I do.

I was going to say this, too. I’m just starting the last book (that’s currently written) and I love the show. There is a fair amount of war stuff, but the story is irresistible

+1 to reading the Outlander series. I had read 1 and 2 a couple years ago, but hadn't watched the show. Now that I've watched the show, I'm continuing reading the series. I read 3 and 4 from June through last week, and I just started book 5 (with a goal to finish it before season 5 of the show begins). Overall the I love the story and all the interesting little things that Diana Gabaldon weaves in (like famous people they happen to meet (e.g., George Washington, one of the early Rothschilds, etc.)).

It's an older series, but the Kate Fansler mysteries by Amanda Cross are pretty good. They've been out of print for a long time, but I recently noticed that a lot of them are available as e-books. They always have fun literary references since Cross is actually a pseudonym for a literature professor.
I enjoyed the "Morgan Dane" series, there are like 6 books and they are easy reads. They are predominantly mysteries, but with some romance sprinkled in.
