DD's Birthday party is tonight at our house. It is not a sleepover. DS1 woke up sick this AM and has thrown up once. I have him sequestered in his room for the rest of the day. DH, DD, and DS2 as well as myself show no symptoms and they went on to work/school. Do I cancel the party or have it?
Check for other symptoms and if there is anything else ( another vomit, fever or diarrhea, etc) I’d cancel. If it was just one single vomit and then he’s fine I’d KOKO.
Unless he's a kid with a nervous stomach who regularly throws up for no medical reason, you know what you need to do. You can't host a party (especially one with food) in a house with a stomach bug.

I'm breezy but I wouldn't take my kid to a party in a puke house. I feel like most guests would cancel if they knew so the right thing to do is postpone it.
I would not be happy if I found out after the fact that my kid attended a party in a house with the stomach flu. It's sooo contagious. Please reschedule.

Anecdote because we always need one, my SIL had a nasty stomach flu in her house right before Christmas. I think she disclosed, but my IL's went anyway. They ended up sick for several days afterward. Even with just one incident I don't think it's worth risking your guests getting sick. I'd also be pissed if someone had me over and then said, oh yeah Suzzie's had the stomach bug, or hand and foot etc. leaving me at risk.
maudefindlay tell your H my stomach flu story: 4-5 years ago I attended a Super Bowl party at a friends' house. The hosts' DS was 4-5 days out from a stomach bug, they'd sanitized the house and he seemed better. There were 13-15 people there. Nine of us got the stomach flu. It was so bad. Always error on the side of canceling with the stomach flu. It's so contagious.
Cancel! A friend of DS was sick last weekend and his mom still had his little sisters birthday party and swore he never came out of her room but 1/2 of the kids who were at the party are now sick.

You shed the virus in your poop for days after your symptoms resolve, so this doesn't surprise me at all. Add in the fact that a lot of people don't know that Lysol isn't enough - bleach or hydrogen peroxide are the only ways to sanitize after stomach viruses.
I think you have to move or cancel. I know it sucks. We skipped thanksgiving one year because of a stomach bug. IT was pretty awful (especially since we're like half the thanksgiving guests since my family small) but we couldn't risk getting everyone sick.
My ILs rented a house last year for a weekend. There were 20 of us. 1 kid was just recovering from the stomach flu. 16 of us got sick. I don't know how we all got it since were were eating out of paper plates/plastic forks and not interacting with the kid knowing he was recovering.

If even one person used the same bathroom after him, they could've easily spread it to other locations in the house that everyone touched.

My guess is that his family spread it. The kid was in diapers and they had their own bathroom. Kid's mom and other sibling didn't get sick but the dad was not feeling well by the end of the weekend. Everyone else's got sick the following Monday/Tuesday.

Uggghhh. Seriously, people. STAY HOME AND KEEP THIS SHIT TO YOURSELF.
This is my soapbox and I will die yelling from it.

Seriously this drives me insane. My kid was less than 6 months old and my cousin wanted to come to Thanksgiving despite her 2 year old having a stomach bug. Her reasoning was that she hadn’t gotten sick since the day before. WUT. when we all got it last year, we got sick 36 hours apart. So you’re still carrying it, dummy, and I don’t want you giving it to me or my kids.
A story. When I was 18 weeks pregnant with DS, we visited the in laws for Christmas. Apparently BIL was puking his guts out and had the stomach flu and NO ONE thought it would be a good idea to tell us. I didnt even see BIL the entire time we were there since he was holed up in his bedroom and the upstairs washroom. I STILL got the stomach bug from him.
