“ Since April, many political observers have written about Castro’s need for that breakout “defining moment” in order to draw wider attention to his campaign — but perhaps the larger problem is the public don’t care enough about many of the types of people Castro has been advocating for throughout the decade. That includes people like Castro himself. Him being the sole Latinx candidate in the race should have garnered him more attention, but that has not proven to be the case.”
Thank you for this. Another not surprising take on a candidate of color. He's the only male that's on my tops list and likely the only one that will be throughout the campaign. I want Beto and the rest to bow out and give him a platform to speak. He's lived the experiences of poor and of color, not "I've got friends that...and I grew up near..." He has an important message that's being ignored.
This was great. He is such an amazing candidate and person. His campaign events are trips to homeless encampments and across the border to assist migrants. His criminal justice and housing policies are the absolute best.
I am fairly certain there hasn't been a single question about housing policies or homelessness in any of the debates, and it would be terrible if when we finally get to that issue, he's not on the stage.
I’ve had my eye on him for a while given what he did for my field (early childhood education) while mayor. I’m hopeful that when we do have a Dem back in the White House, he’s a part of the administration.
He's the only one I have given money to for the presidential campaign. I have been very impressed by him and i started donating to get him stage time. I am disappointed he doesn't get more attention.
If he WAS white, though... I don't think he'd have as much credibility on some of the issues he is pushing, you know? Being the only Latinx candidate in the race should be an asset.
(Similarly, my H thinks that if Elizabeth Warren were a man she would be running away with it, far surpassing Biden, but I think her gender and experience based on her gender is integral to her candidacy.)
I feel like I only hear about him on these boards, so I guess I'm not surprised. I have not paid him that much attention, to be honest, but not for any good reason - I just think the field is so crowded and I had a couple of others that I really like so I haven't really focused on anyone else.
It's interesting how I know intellectually that the media manipulates perceptions but didn't really catch on that they have manipulated mine until this and the Kamala Harris article were posted. I really like Warren but I'm not sure if I have solid reasons for loving her over Castro or Harris or if the media has just put her in my face a lot more and tricked me into thinking she's risen higher in my mind.
