Sorry, the formatting got screwed up on a bunch of recipes when I switched plugins. It should be 4 medium granny Smith apples -- peeled, cored and sliced into 1/4-inch slices.
H is brining the turkey right now. And he’ll smoke it tomorrow. I’ve already prepped the cornbread for stuffing, plus chopped all the celery, onions, and leeks. I also made the bourbon cranberry sauce.
My main course will be an oyster chowder (https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/6460-oyster-chowder) in Panera bread bowls. Because I cannot bake a bread bowl that holds up. I can’t really eat solid foods but to the radiation treatment right now. Which is annoying, but I get oyster chowder! And we didn’t have to cancel thanksgiving.
I’m making gravy and stuffing from this thread, and my house smells so good right now!
I’m going over a friends house for thanksgiving, and was texting her about plans. She said she can’t wait to start cooking tomorrow, and it’s making me a little anxious that she hasn’t started cooking anything yet 😂 but I’m trying to not think about it!
If it helps, I distinctly remember one year as a teenager being at the grocery store one Wednesday before Thanksgiving and running into my grandma browsing the frozen turkeys.
No one ate my stuffing 😢 and it was soooo good I made the one isabel linked with brown butter and cornbread and sourdough. I freaking loved it haha. But then I felt like a weirdo taking my entire pan of stuff home so I just left it there. I prob should have just taken it.
That sounds amazing. And yes, you should have taken it home!

This makes me sad for the people who unwittingly missed out and for you for the lack of leftovers. We made a different one this year that was very good, but I missed *my* stuffing. MIL has most of the stuff to make it and said she would make it for me. I might let her. Lol
Any bread bakers on here who can explain bread bowls to me? Every time I try, they fail. So I bought them from Panera. Theirs stand up to a French onion soup, which is mostly broth. I thought they must have magic powers, but in the time it took me to carry them to the table, they soaked up all the liquid from my oyster stew. Still yummy, but not what I was hoping for. But, at least it didn’t soak through the crust!

Did you toast the bread bowls after the bread was scooped out? I'm not a baker, but I think baking it to crisp the interior helps them hold liquid longer before it seeps into the bread.
