If I wasn't living this reality, I'd think I was MUD with what is happening...
Got home today to my H stating that today sucked. He worked from home and had a meeting with our solicitor. Here's the issue. The owners of the house we're buying put in a bathroom in the loft room and they didn't get building regs done - something that HAS to happen legally. Normally, it's fine in the long run - they buy indemnity insurance in case all goes wrong. BUT they decided to get in touch with the local council to find out what they needed to do, because they hired a trainee solicitor who doesn't know shit. Because of this, they have now made it impossible to buy the indemnity insurance...
So, what does that mean? Well, they now have to get it retrospectively approved by the council. This is NOT a quick thing. At all. And the council might not give approval, which would mean they'd have to pay to tear it back and make it look like the original form and then get it inspected. So, this is going to take time. In addition, they discovered that the top floor roof terrace doesn't have the correct parts to it as approved by the council (it's meant to be glass of some sort versus the wood that is the safety barrier). So that might also be an issue that has to be resolved.
All of a sudden, the 3 weeks that looked doable is not. It looks like we're going to have to rent - and probably for 6 months just in case. Ugh. All because these people cheaped out on their solicitor who didn't know what they should do (or they didn't ask and went ahead because they are idiots). "&$"*£$£(")$* Not what I needed as I finalise my packing for an Airbnb. So, in the next 3 weeks we also have to find a house to rent that is available on short-term lease that isn't insanely expensive (believe me, we're going to ask these people to take money off the price due to this!).
Oh no! You really have the worst luck ever with this whole process. I am so sorry. At least you found out before you moved into the Airbnb?
We're still moving into the Airbnb because we need somewhere to live as of tomorrow. We're going to have to work very quickly to find a short-term rental. I'm glad we didn't find out in a week, though...at least we can get in touch with rental agencies on Wed and Thur to start the process.

Oh no, what a disaster! I hope they don't have to tear it down and can get it approved retroactively somewhat quickly. I'm so sorry you are having such bad luck!
So basically the worst luck ever. I'm so glad I didn't have to go through buying/selling in your neck of the woods. I hope you guys get something figured out quickly.

Shit. I've been screwed by a realtor who didn't do some things. I thought "Should have hired a lawyer." You'd think that a lawyer, even a trainee, would know what needs to be done. I hope somehow it works out for you in the end since the beginning has been a giant pain in the ass.
I’m so sorry you have such a huge hurdle to manage again. I really hope you’re able to find a reasonable place to live and that the bathroom does not need to be torn out (this seems ridiculous). The entire permit process is utterly bizarre in London. Good luck!

In the UK everything is done by the solicitors that is normally done by estate agents in the US. Estate agents here are just sales people and nothing more.

I feel like that's all they are here too. In my situation neither agent or the title company was liable for the mistake made.
